Thanks so much!! DF and I have never been to WDW before and will be there 1/6-1/13 for our honeymoon. Here are all of my questions.
1) I've heard AKL upgrades (from standard to pool or savannah) quite frequently. Did you receive an upgrade?? We could only upgrade from POR to AKL and not pay anything more if we took a standard view room which we did after reading many people say they got upgraded at no charge. I'm just really hoping to be able to get a Savannah view room upon check-in. Also hoping for a king size bed since this is our honeymoon
2) How was the transportation?? We will not be renting a car and will be flying so we are relying on disney transportation 100%. The only thing that concerns me is making it to all of our ADR's which are at other resorts on time in the evenings.
3) Would you recommend this hotel for honeymooners/a first trip??
4) Did you ever use room service?? We were thinking since we are now staying at a deluxe that we would cancel one of our ADR's for one night and just order room service. Do you order from a specific restaurant like Mara, Jiko, or Boma, or is in room dining something seperate??
I think that's all for now, but I may have more later!!

We reserved a savanna room ahead of time. I have heard of people getting upgraded for free at check-in, so you might be lucky. There seem to be a lot of savanna view and pool view rooms and not so many standard view rooms, so there may be a good chance that an upgrade is available more often than it is at other resorts. However, that being said, my advice to would be not to absolutely count on it and to go into it assuming that you're going to have a standard view. If you get some pixie dust that's great, but if you think you would be disappointed if not getting a better view, you might want to rethink it.

We were lucky with transportation to the theme parks and only had a long wait for the DTD bus one morning. However, the day that we went to the Contemporary for dinner, we drove, because it can take a long time to get from one resort to another. This is true of all resorts, and AKL is a bit more remote than others. I would recommend taking a cab or car to other resorts, or giving yourself enough time to get there.
3) Would you recommend this hotel for honeymooners/a first trip??
Absolutely! :thumbs up: My DH and I have a 3 YO, so we are a different demographic from you and your hubby to be, but we saw several newlyweds and young couples at AKL. The hotel is very romantic and there are lots of places to just sit together and enjoy things, but inside and out. If you are poolgoers, the pool area is very romantic at night, too.

We didn't use room service but did look at the menu. It was your basic room service food but did have a few selections from Boma (I think it was called a "taste of Boma". Here's a link to the menu: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_aklin.htm The menu also said that meals were available from Jiko and to contact the room service number for more information. So, it looks like yo might be able to order something. You might want to call ahead to make sure. Jiko and Boma are both terrific restaurants, not to be missed IMHO, and I hope you can get ADRs for them. Jiko would be a great newlywed diner.

Glad to help. I hope your trip is a magical one. The AKL is a very special place!
