Sweet little 5 day vacation I just had.

Weather was wonderful, compared to NY, and everything went smoothly. Most exciting part was checking into AKL for the first time. Cast member was very nice and asked if we were staying there for first time. I said it was our first and we were thrilled. She said, "Well then, we're going to upgrade you from a standard to a savanah view, if that's ok?"

I said, "You have made my vacation."

So we went from the thrilling view of a parking lot, to the mundane Savannah View where I woke up the first morning in Room 2226 and there was a giraffe 25 feet from my window. What an amazing resort. I don't know how I'll ever stay anywhere else.

Also went to Boma for the first time. The next night we went for the second time. Fabulous food and a wonderful atmosphere.

We went to all the parks, so if anyone has any questions about the lodge or parks, I'm all ears.

How Wonderful! So glad to hear you loved your stay at AKL. We are staying there for two nights on our trip in April. Is there anything for kids that you think is "not to be missed" at AKL?
Thanks,
Shellie

I think taking some time to actually walk around and talk to the cast members about the animals is well worth it. Not your typical must do, but just take a few hours one afternoon and do that. They are so informative, and there really is no place like it in this country to do that.

Thanks for the review! We're staying there for the first time next week. We visited it on our last trip and were completely WOWED by it. So we're very excited to be staying there!! We booked a standard room and are hoping for a little pixie dust.... ;) :wizard:

Our kids were 11 and 7 last spring when we stayed, and they did not want to leave to visit a park! It took two days to finish up all the available kid program items and at each they "earned" a bead. With the last one being their "Totem" (a larger bead). They will learn alot if they have an interest in learning. I did see a few kids that were too much into "immediate satisfaction" to stick with it. Some examples they offer: Night Vision Scope at Arusha Rock, flamingo feeding behind the pool area, making rubbings from the bronze floor plates around the lobby, story telling, animal briefings from Guides actually from African nations (instead of Orlando). Another fun time was the Hidden Mickey Search. The guides are great with kids! We even let them do a few activities with us nearby but not directly watching them (a personal choice to be sure) because we felt very secure there and the 11 yr old is getting to that point where he wants a bit more trust.

Our regret - only having three days there (because we didn't know how it would be.) Will stay longer next time!

Fonzy 13,

What savannah were you on? We will be going next January and I am trying to decide whether or not to request a particular savannah or not. We have stayed on the Uzima and were very pleased, I just thought maybe we should be surprised.
