Hi everyone, thanks for all your input regarding our trip. It was wonderful!!! The AKL is the most relaxing place we have any stayed at. The lobby is breath taking. We used the fitness room, the pool, the jacuzzi, did a few hotel activities. We saw alot of animals from our room. We stayed on the Zebra trail, arusha rock savannah, 3rd floor... 3rd building on the trail. (There are 5 buildings) This room was the same level as the lobby and on the same side as Mara and the pool. This is very, very important. If you are on the other trails, you have a very long walk to your morning coffee!!! My only suggestion would be request a room a little closer to the elevator. I would say the 2nd building in. But, all in all the room was wonderful. I would be happy to answer any questions! :D

Welcome back and glad you had a great time. I can't wait to get back there.

Hi, thanks for your post. What room were you in? Did you fax in a request before you went? Building 3 looks like on the map it was close to the elevator. Was your room not close? Did you like the 3d floor? Did you eat at Boma? How did you enjoy the pool? Sorry for so many question. thanks...amy

Hi Amy, ask all the questions you want. I got the map out and I was wrong, there are 7 buildings on the Zebra trail. 5 face the Arusha Savannah the other 2 face the other side (pool and I think the other is the Sunset Savannah). We stayed in Room 3527. It was close to the elevator, but if I wanted the absolute perfect room (for view, pool, lobby, Mara & elevator) I would request 3rd floor rooms #3501-3515 (some of these rooms face the pool side) I believe all the odd #'s face the Arusha Savannah. If you request any closer to the lobby you may get a view of the Arusha rock. (This has people on it)

My room was wonderful and it would have been my 2nd most desirable building. But, my mother and I agreed that being maybe a little closer to both the lobby and elevator would have been even better.
I did send a fax and asked for an unobstructive view, Zebra Trail, 3rd floor, nonsmoking, bunk beds, Arusha view room. The CM's there are wonderul .

We are a commendo style park touring family, but the AKL surely slowed us down. We wanted to spend time in the jacuzzi, fitness room and pool as much as possible, along with touring the parks. Usually, we don't spend time at the hotel at all. Enjoy your stay, you want love it!!:D

Hi, I would like to be a vet and i really want to stay at this resort. Do they have anything to do for kids, because my little brother would enjoy a play ground and stuff. What does the pool look like? How many animals did you see? And how close are they do your balcony? My dad doesn't like the smell of animals, so my final question......can you smell the animals poop from your balcony? I know...crazy question. THANKS!

Can you tell me about the pool at AKL? Where is it located and does it have a slide?

We are staying there for Thanksgiving and DS6 would love to know.

Thanks, L

Hi froggy12,

There is a play ground out in the pool area.

Pool is themed to look like a watering hole and does have a slide and zero entry.

There are many animals on each of the three "savannas". They get about 30ft or so from your balcony.

We did notice any type of animal smell.

Hi,

The pool is located between the Giraffe and the Zebra trails. It does have a slide and zero entry.

Thanks for your report Kathyclownfish! We are going over Christmas and really want to get a great Savannah room close to the elevators because we have two preschoolers. We stayed at the Beach Club last year and we walked and walked and walked, and we were finally half way to our room. Not great after a long day at the parks with little ones.

I appreciate your information regarding your fax. Non-smoking, close to the lobby and bunk beds are a must for us. Could you tell me the fax number for AKL room assignor.

Could you tell me if the laundry is on the 1st or 2nd floor? The map says first floor, but someone on here posted it was really the 2nd floor. We are going the first wek in Dec. and I asked my Disney Travel Agent for Zebra trail, second floor close to elevator with connecting rooms. The only thing on my confirmation was connecting rooms, one with 2 queens and the other bunk and queen. This is deluxe savannah view. I hope they noted my other requests. I didn't care what kind of beds we had. One of the grandkids usually sleep in our room anyway. I have heard that they only allow you 2 requests.

DW Mouser, I have an AKL map in front of me. It shows a laundry on the first floor same side as the restaurants & pool. The other laundry is listed as being on the second floor.

I'm like ahound dog and there was NO smell of animal poop at all when I sat out on the balcony. :o

Hi DW mouser,

Deluxe savannah view rooms are all on the 5th floor. There is no way for you to get both a room on the 2nd floor and be in a deluxe savannah view room.

Does zero entry mean that you do not need your key to enter the pool? Are there lifeguards?

Thanks, L

Kathy,

Did you have to pay extra to use the fitness center?
Can you tell what activities you took part in and were they worthwhile?

LauraJean,
Zero entry means that there is one part of the pool where you just walk right in, with no steps or ladders. Almost like walking down the beach into the ocean.
Regarding the lifeguards, I believe they are on duty during "normal" hours, but then go off duty. I believe the slide is closed then. But I'm sorry that I can't remember the time.
Best,
TapCat

You do have to pay extra to use the fitness room - I think it was $15?

Hey Kathy- I just got back and was facing you across the savanah!;) 2nd floor,3rd building right next to elevators.(And I was at the health club every day at 6am-groan.;)

AKL is truly a unique marvelous Resort.

Please tell me the difference between a savannah view and a deluxe savannah view. Which is deluxe -- the room? or is it a better view?

I don't know anything about the layout there. Do the different savannah views have different animals in them?

Do the animals come right up to the building or is there a walk-way or ditch or something between the animals and the buildings?
