Just back a couple of days ago - we have stayed at AKL a few times now. Went for a week with DH and 16 yo DD. We were lucky to get a perfect room - I requested when I reserved, and also faxed just one day ahead, since my dad had been in the hospital and no time to fax earlier!
Got a room on Zebra Trail, looking at Arusha savannah, 2nd floor, one block of rooms beyond the elevators down to Mara/pool/etc. Great! Just outside our room was the place where the staff put browse in the trees for the giraffes, so all 4 of them would be right ourside our room eating a few times a day
.
We were lucky that for some reason there was a fridge in our room. We had a rental car, so that was great for the soda, milk, etc. I bought on the way to the resort. Didn't have to use the collapsible cooler I'd packed. Also, the normal light bulbs had been replaced with the very bright corkscrew-type bulbs (sorry, exact name escapes me), so there was plenty of light in the room.
If you know your way around Disney, a rental car is great to have at AKL. We used it for driving to Epcot later in the day (parked at Boardwalk), to dinner and Wishes Cruise, to Downtown Disney, etc. My DH and DD did fly down one day before me and used Magical Express to get there, and everything went smoothly. They got to MCO about 12:30 and luggage got to AKL 2 hours after they did.
Pool was a little crowded, but I just used the hot tubs, and was able to find a lounge chair in the shade, so I was happy!
We thought all the CMs were nice and friendly. I read a lot of complaints on this board, but we didn't have any problem. Then again, I don't expect anyone to bend down and kiss my feet just because I'm a hotel guest, when they're doing menial work.
Any questions, I'll be happy to answer.
