We just got back from AK Lodge. It's a beautiful hotel! It was dark (some people have complained about this)but we all liked it--it seemed so peaceful after a crazy day at the parks. The bus service was great-never had to wait more than 15 minutes and they were usually only half full. We were upgraded when we checked in (room 3349) it was a savannah view, but we decided to ask for a different room because it was so far away from the bus stop and everything else. We ended up with a room on the 4th floor overlooking the entryway. So we had a view of the cars & people coming and going from the hotel. It was disappointing after the awesome view we had with the 1st room, but we wanted to be closer to everything. The Mara (food court) wasn't very good. Not many choices and the service wasn't the greatest eithier. The coolers with salads, snacks, sandwiches etc was never stocked, I had to ask them for milk, fruit and yogurt. Only once was what I wanted actually in the cooler. The day we left I went there at 6:30 am and the cooler wasn't stocked! I prefer the food courts at the All Stars. Oh and lets talk about Disney food prices. We all know they are expensive. At the Mara I ordered my daughter a hot dog-just a hot dog, not the meal because she never eats everything so I was going to give her some fries from my meal. The girl rings it up. $4.60. For a hot dog!!! The meal was $5.89 or something. I debated on whether or not to pay the extra dollar to get the fries-because paying 4.60 for a hot dog and a bun is ridiculous. I also debated on talking to the manager but I didn't want to be one of "those people". We didn't go to Boma or Jiko. The pool was beautiful, my daughter loved the water slide. We loved the AK Lodge, except for the Mara food court. Would definitely stay there again.
Give AKL another try and next time definitely try Boma - it is our "must do" every trip.
