Well we just got back at 2:30 am this morning from the best Family vacation ever!!!!

I know alot of people have been asking alot of questions about this resort so if you don't mind I would like to tell you about our stay. I have so much information, I will probable ramble alot. I figure every day I can write about a couple of topics. Also I brought home all of the info. that they give you, times, movies, activities. I am not able to post online, but if anyone is interested in doing it, I will send it all to you, just let me know.

First a little info. about us. We booked our first Disney Cruise for the Magic back in November 2003. We are not going until April vacation 2005, so we have been on the boards getting info. for that. We ended up getting a week at the Ron Jon through a bonus week program through our timeshare. We ended up getting a 2br/2bath ocean front unit. We went with my DH(42), myself(35), DS(6 next month) and DD(4 1/2).

Like I said this was the best family vacation that we have ever had. Alot of it could be beside the wonderful resort, we had the best weather. 82-87 everyday with no rain, and also my kids have been taking swimming lessons, and before we left they were just starting to swim without a bubble, and when we got home, they were little fishes in the water. So that made it alot more fun for us.

Ok where to start:

Check in: We arrived at the resort around 2pm. When up to the desk and checked in. We were told that we could fill out all of the paper work, and check back for our room around 3:15. When I checked in I ask if I had any choice of room location. We were booked in the oceanfront building, and I really wanted to be close to the pool. Boy was I wrong. We loved the Oceanfront building. I will post lots of info. about it later. We were told that the highest room we could get was the 3rd floor. We left and went to check out the resort. So beautiful. Checked back at 3pm and our room was ready, so off we went. We drove down to the ocean front building. Like someone had said earlier there is not alot of parking down by the ocean, but people were all parking on the grass. Later in the week we noticed if you drove to the side of the building, there was parking underneath. They really should let people know about this, maybe a sign or tell them when they check in. When you walk into the Ocean front building there is a desk, but we never saw anyone there. Also they have luggage cart here for you to use. We were never asked if we needed help with our luggage, so not sure if it was available if you needed it. We loaded up one of the carts and up to the room we went. What can I say about the room. New, clean, big, and beautiful. When you walked in on the right there was the first bedroom with 2 double beds, then a full bathroom, then a Washer Dryer in the closet, small hallway then you entered the kitchen/Livingroom. Just a note, there was a pocket door in the hallway to seperate the 2nd bedroom, bathroom, laudry. If you wanted privacy. We had a beautiful view of the ocean. (More about this later), and to the right the master bedroom with slider to the balcony. The room also had a walk in closet. The closet alone could have been a small bedroom. The master bath had a single sink with long vanity for storage and a stand up shower, and a corner spa tub. Our oceanfront balcony was 10 by 30 feet. Yes I did mean feet. It was so hugh. It had one lounge chair, 4 plastic chairs and a side table.

Ok that about all for now, I will try to post more later.

Just wanted to give a little more info. about the Oceanfront building, then I will move on. I know alot of you will not be staying in this building, (It is only for Timeshare or you can request it if you are staying at least 7 nights) but if you ever have the chance to go here for a week, I know that you will really enjoy it.

I found out that the Oceanfront building is all 2br/2bath units. There is only 2 views that you can get. The front of the building overlooks the ocean, and one side of the building overlooks Jetty Park and the Canal. If you do stay here make sure that you get floor 3, 4, or 5. Floor 1 and 2 have no view of the ocean. There is trees in front of the building before the beach and you can not see through them. Even if you do not stay in this building, you have to take the elevator to the 5th floor and walk down the corridor. They have a railing where you can look out and see Jetty Park and the Canal. We went up there when the Wonder was leaving and we could hear the horn and see the boat come all the way down the canal. Once the boat passes you, you can go to the beach and watch it turn into open water. A must see. When you go, you will notice that half of the rooms have large balconys, and half have small balconys. (When I say small, I mean smaller than the big, the small balcony is 10 by 15 feet. Pretty big by balcony standards.)This is because all of the units are shaped like an L. In one room the 2 bedrooms are in the back and the livingroom is in the front. This type of room has the small balcony. The other room next door will have 1 bedroom in the back and the living room and master bedroom in the front, so this unit has the large balcony.

We found out during our stay that you can rent beach umbrellas and chairs down at the ocean. The price is $10. for an umbrella for the day and $5. per lounge chair. This is something that we wanted to do, but never did. Our kids loved the water park too much.

Just a little info. about the distance from the ocean to the main building. I must admit it looks far, but really it is not. The ocean front building is conected to the back of the water park by a road that is only used for people driving down to stay at the ocean front building. We were going to walk, but everytime we went the Shuttle was there or we could see it coming down the road. Our kids loved riding it so we just took it. One day there was alot of people waiting, so when the shuttle could not fit everyone the guy radio for another shuttle to come right away. The shuttle is just a large golf cart that can seat about 8 people. We thought it would be a pain to use, but it actually was very convient. The shuttle has 3 pick up points one at the ocean building, one at the back gate to the water park, and one at the main entrance. On the second to last day, we decided to walk to the pool just to see how long it was. When we walked with the kids I timed it at 4 and 1/2 minutes. Later I walked it myself and it was only 3 1/2 minutes. We also measured it with the car and it was 2/10 of a mile. Not bad at all, but the shuttle is so easy we just used it. Just wanted to let you know when you do walk from the back of the pool to the ocean, you will notice picnic tables and grills on the side of the road in a nice grassy area. This is for hotel guest, and you can buy the charcol at the hotel store. This is also where they have the shuffle board.

Thats all for now, more later.

Great timing on your report. We're planning for our upcoming cruise. Quick question about their mini-golf if you can answer it-
How is it? What's the cost per round? Our ds 5 loves minigolf and would play for hours everyday if we let him. He wants to go on RCCL because he saw the minigolf on a commerical.

Thanks,
Julie

The mini golf is FREE!!! When you walk in the main building front door, the first 5 holes are on the left side, then you have to walk past the front door and the last 4 holes are on the other side. The course is very easy for adults. My husband and I got the ball in on only 2 strokes on most holes. It is perfect though for the kids. Not too hard for them and hours of fun. Just remember when you want to play to bring your room card. They keep it while you play. You get all of the equipment at the front check in desk. They have an area on the side for getting all equipment. Enjoy your stay.

Hi! We have a 2-br booked for Nov. We can't wait! What about the in-house theater? Did you get to watch any movies? What was showing? Thanks!

Movie Theater:

The Resort actually has a real movie theater. It is located in the main building down past the restaurant. It has, if I remember correctly 62 seats. 5 accross with 6 rows on each side, and 2 single seats in the back. They will give you a listing when you check in. I am looking at my listing now, and the have 6 movies showing per day Monday through Friday and 5 movies per day on Saturday and Sunday. The first movie of the day is always at 9:00am. Most of the movies are PG with some G and some PG13. There were only 2 R rated movie when we were there. The Matrix Reloaded on Wednesday at 9:30pm and Terminator 3 on Sunday at 9:00pm. We went to see Beauty and the Beast on Tuesday at 11:00AM. The kids loved it. We were the only ones in the theater. Just a note, we brought some microwave popcorn from home with us. We poped it in the room and brought it to the movie with some drinks. I did not notice any popcorn being sold in the Ron Jon store, so you might want to bring your own.

Thanks! What a great idea about the popcorn! I'll remember to bring some from home.

Hi,
We are staying at the Ron Jon from December 6-14 in a 1 bedroom unit. We got it at the great price of $108. a night. We are in the pool building.
Do you think it would be worth it to see if we can switch to ocean building? Are there 1 bedroom units there also?
Thanks for all the info you provided. Great to hear that they have an area for barbecuing.
Was there any info on them starting a kids club type thing or is it just regular babysitting that is available?
Are there floats and stuff to rent/borrow for the pool area?

Thanks again for all the info.

I am very happy to hear you had a great time at the new resort. Now I really cant wait to stay there next month before our cruise!!

Are there grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, Target/Walmart nearby?

Did you notice how may dinnerware/silverware/cups/glasses they had? There are 8 of us (3 adults, 5 kids ages 2-17), so hopefully there'll be enough.

Do they provide towels in the room, pool and beach?

Are there dishwashing soap, clothes detergent, shampoo/condition/soap in the room?

What did you think of the children's play center?

Sorry with all the questions. Just want to be prepared. :D

Thanks!

Please tell us more about the resort!!

Going in 5weeks and can't seem to get enough info to soothe my appetite , about this place! :hyper:

Thanks,
Sharon:tongue:

stulaurie- Just curious, what were the pool/slide/lazy river hours while you were there? I have heard varying times in regards to when these options closed at night.

Hi Guys,

I'm glad that you are enjoying the info. To answer some of the questions, the oceanfront building is only 2br/2bath units, and you have to be staying at least 7 days to request. The units are equiped with the number of people it will sleep. Our 2br slept 8 so we had 8 plates, glasses, silverware, etc. When you check in they will give you a list of everything that is supose to be in your room. Make sure that you check. Our room was missing alot of items, so we made a list and brought it to the front desk where they made a note of it. We didn't want to have to pay for it just in case. When we got to our room there was 1 roll of paper towels and a pouch of dishwasher det. We also had 1 box of Tide, 1 box of dryer sheets, and 1 box of all color bleach. In the bathroom the only thing that was there was bath soap. No shampoo or conditoner. Also the rooms do not have hairdryers. We found out that they have a towel exchange in the main building. I'm not sure if this is diferent for timeshare people. We did not have daily maid service, but we were able to exchange our towels at the towel exchange, and get more toilet paper, paper towels. We did not try to get more laudry det., because we brought our own. Our room also had 8 pool towels. We did not see any towels out by the pool, like someone else had posted. Maybe they were there, but we did not see them. We just brought ours from our room.

The hours are:

Pool and Spa 8:00 - 10:00pm
Lazy river and Slide 9:00 - 5:00
Children's play center 7:00 - 9:00
Game room 8:00 - 11:00
Basketball/tennis court 8:00 - 10:00
Mini Golf 8:00 - 9:00
Shuffle board 8:00 - 9:00
Exercise room 6:00 - 11:00

We heard from one of the staff that they are trying to get a permit to let them keep the slide and river open past 5pm. They thought by the end of the month.

As far as shopping, we had a car and drove about 10minutes to the Super Walmart. There really is nothing to walk to from the resort. This area had tons of fast food etc.

StuLaurie - thanks so much for answering all my questions. We're staying there for 2 nights before our 1st Wonder Cruise. My DH, MIL, 2 DD, 3 DD and I will be sailing together in Nov 2004. My kids range from ages 2-17 yrs, so I think Ron Jon's have everything to keep them busy. Can't wait!
