Just back from a long trip

I just returned from 3 weeks in Orlando.
I did spend most of it at WDW but went to "that other park" for 3 of the days. We had a great time. I took my neice (4) and my nephew (2) for their first trip to WDW, along with other various family members.
My 2 sons, and oldest son's girlfriend spent a week at OKW in a 1 bedroom. they loved it until the 2nd day when they came home to find a snake in their first floor kitchen. Youngest son ( not too bright) tried to pick it up and toss it out the porch door. It swung back to strick but he threw it on the ground. He chased it out with his water mister. The maintenance person said it was a coral snake. I asked for them to be changed to a 2nd or third floor and OKW did all the moving of stuff. They slept better after the move and nothing else went wrong with them.
My dad, friend, brother and SIL and the kids were at BCV in a 2 bedroom for the week. We had a wonderful time. The only thing that went wrong there was that the free my Pal Mickey didn't work. They wouldn't give me another day to try it, but I heard all the jokes. He just refused to tell me about the parks. Told me tons of corny jokes though. I did request the room on the 2nd floor with the large balcony overlooking the pool for my handicapped dad but didn't get it. I even called a few times to make sure they had that one for me and was told I would be in that room. They gave me the 5th floor with handicapped bathrooms and the tiniest balcony I have ever seen. Dad had hoped to watch the kids play in the pool from the balcony but the roof was slanted to the balcony and he couldn't see over it when he was in his chair. I asked to be changed when I checked the room out but they said that there was no 2 bedrooms available. But I did notice that the room I had requested was empty the first 3 days of our trip. I feel they should have given it to us. Guess the people who had it were more important. I will be calling my sales rep on Monday.
After almost everyone left my youngest son, friend and his daughter went over to OKW studio for another week. It was crowded and my son slept on the aeor mattress but we had a great time there with no problems at all.
After staying at all of the WDW DVC resorts I have to say that OKW is my favorite for size. We were really not uncomfortable in the studio the way we would have been in one of the other DVC studios. But if you are swimmers BCV and SAB is the best. I had a great time with the neice and nephew. Peggie

.....good thing you got rid of it or you would have been over the occupancy limit.;)

That is very unfortunate that you were unable to get a room for your Dad where he could see the kids and lots of action. Probably would have been a great plus for him to be able to see the grandkids....

My kids will want to go back to OKW more than ever now, if they think they'll get to see a snake! Here in Indiana, 99% of the snakes you see are harmless, so my kids LOVE snakes...

I would rather have a snake in the room than one of the "palmetto bug/roaches" but NOT a poisonous snake!

Peggie, thanks for taking the time to post your trip report. Sorry to read about thesnake - not my idea of a good time :(.

As for Pal Mickey ... we appreciated being able to use it as a DVC member, but ... unfortunately you are not the only one to experience this ... we had a Pal Mickey two weeks ago & had the same experience. We tried it at EPCOT & heard very little about EPCOT, but could hear plenty of corny jokes :). Also, none of us - five adults - had anywhere to clip it to us. I tried putting it in the ECV basket, but we didn't necessarily know when it was "talking" to us. Others in our group tried to hold it in their hands, but this got tiresome. We stopped in Mouse Gears & asked the CM (who was holding a Pal Mickey) some questions about it, but she didn't seem to know a whole lot about it. When I returend it, the CM said she was supposed to write down our comments. I told her briefly what I said here & she decided not to write anything.
