What a fantastic resort!! We did 7 nights w/ DDP and two nights R/O at the end. From the second we drove through the gate it felt like home. We were upgraded from standard to woods view (room 4028) and had a wonderful room overlooking a little pond, with a view of CR, the monorail, and the fireworks at night.

The room location could not have been better. We were steps from the elevator, and right over Roaring Forks and the door to the pool. So it was just a quick stroll to get mug refills or jump in the pool at night. Perfect! The only time we had to walk much was to get to the bus, and even that wasn't really too far away.

The pool was great! The whole pool area was gorgeous and the pool temp was perfect - warm but not too warm. DD didn't work up enough courage to try the slide, but it looked like a lot of fun.

The theming throughout the resort was amazing and the rooms were beautiful. Transportation was a breeze. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a boat or 10 minutes for a bus - and then it was during the slow period after lunch.

Housekeeping was great, too. The room was cleaned well every day and everything restocked, and we got lots of towel animals. On the day before we checked out, they left a whole arrangement of towel animals on the bed - an elephant, dog, mouse, penguin, dolly, flower... I think they were meant for DD because each day when I left the tip on the bed she also left them some of her candy from Goofy's Candy Co. I don't know if they actually ate it, but it was always taken. :)

We were the flag family on our last day there and DD was just beside herself. The view was amazing!! We could see everything from up there! DD got to raise all the flags with the CM and he gave us a flag family certificate. :wizard:

Afterwards the CM invited us to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast on the concierge floor. Very fun! I thought the selections were great - fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, pastries, cereals, all kinds of beverages... It definitely got me thinking about splurging on club level next time!

My only complaint was the front desk. The CM's there were friendly and helpful - it just seems like too many of them don't know what they're doing. I was down there way too many times. First we couldn't get our tickets/DDP because the system was down so we had to return later to get them, then after we got our cards we found out at the restaurant that our DDP wasn't downloaded onto the them :sad2: , then when I checked in for the room only reservation, our tickets weren't moved over onto the new keys (the CM had told me they were), then the tickets were moved to the new cards but the room key part wasn't put on them, then I was charged the wrong rate on our room-only reservation and it took two concierge visits to sort it out.... It was endless.

They were all very nice, I just think a few too many of them there were "Earning Their Ears" at a particularly busy time. That certainly won't keep us from returning, but I'll probably keep it more simple next time since a lot of our problems stemmed from the split stay.

All in all, we had a magical time at WL. We looked forward to it for months, and it was even better than our expectations. As much as we've enjoyed the mods, I'm definitely a WL convert now! We're planning a spring trip back, and I'm not even considering anywhere else. We just can't wait to return! :goodvibes

I always love to hear reports on WL! I am glad that you had a great time! I can't wait to get back there myself.

So you got bit by the WL bug:rotfl: . Congratulations!!. It is my favorite resort, so much so that I went out and purchased a resale of DVC points at the WL Villas. I love visiting at Christmastime:santa: right after Thanksgiving when park crowds are low and the decorations are jaw dropping gorgeous. It's great to sit by the fireplace in December on chilly nights and sip hot cocoa. There are so many nooks and crannies in the resort and the villas that I can spend hours just roaming around. Glad you had a great visit - looking forward to my trip in December. Any pics you can post would be appreciated.

I agree too, that it's a beautiful resort, and you must try club level at least once...my first stay there was club level this past April, and I'm hooked!!:rotfl:

Woohoo!! I am sooo glad that you had such a wonderful stay at WL. Told you that it was amazing. ;)

I must admit that I am green with envy with you and dd being picked for the Flag Family, we've asked before but have never gotten that priviledge. The WL did it fof us too. We loved POR and all of the moderates but then we had that stay at WL and we were done. Even our oldest questions why we stay anywhere else, :lmao: .

And like a pp said you really need to stay there at least once when the Holiday decorations are up, it is beautiful.

I am so glad to hear you had a great stay!! The Wl is our absolute favorite resort!! We have stayed there 6 times in 3 years and are heading back there in December staying club level. From the very first moment my DH and I walked thru those doors on our honeymoon 3 years ago, we were HOOKED!! He has converted from a Polynesian only guy to a WL only guy!!:goodvibes

I'm happy to hear about your great stay! The WL is our family's favorite resort because of the theme, pool area, and dining! :thumbsup2:

We might be back there soon! :)

I'm glad you had a good time! We visited the Wilderness Lodge on our last trip and it was gorgeous!

Welcome to the Wilderness Lodge club. Wilderness Lodge is our favorite resort. So glad to hear you had a wonderful time. We were there this past June and had a blast. We also got to be Flag family. It was an amazing experience. The view is spectacular. We will be heading back there this Christmas. This will be our 1st Christmas trip to the Lodge and I am sooo excited. :)

I enjoyed reading your post! It's getting me even more excited for our trip next month!!!
What time in the AM did you do the flag family?

We have eaten at Artist Point a few times but this will be our first time staying there. I can not wait. I am so glad to hear that you had a great time. :dance3:

Thanks for the happy report on WL! Our first visit is coming up... we are staying there and have never visited in our previous WDW trips. Can't wait...

I'm curious about the time for the flag family and exactly what you get to do.

Wow Fionasmommy! So glad to hear a POSITIVE resort review. It seems like I'll I've been reading lately is negatives! And a big welcome to the WL Club! DH and I own DVC at VWL and we'll be going back for the 2nd time in December Although we won't be staying in the villas; we're splurging for a club level h'moon room! We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it there! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

BTW, the picture in your signature is hilarious. I have to ask, are you a Farker or is that photo caption "cliche" spreading all over the internet?

That's Excellent to hear! DW and I have been in shambles trying to decide between POFQ and WL, and I think you just made our choice a little easier!

Fionasmommy - Have to ask......we are debating as we speak (on a DAILY basis!) whether to stay at WL or the Poly. It will be our first trip as a family (first for the kids at all!). Our big concern is whether or not the WL will "feel" like a vacation since we have the Front Range right in our backyard.....

So - since you're also from Colorado, and it seems your stay was fantastic (!), did living here affect your perception/visions of the WL? Just curious.... Thanks in advance for your thoughts! ;)

Waiting patiently for 2008 rates -
Lynne

Thanks for the positive review of our favorite resort. We too are Lodge people. Ever since it's opening..it's been our favorite. We've stayed Poly, Beach Club, Caribbean, and FW cabins...nothing compares to the WL. We love it. Glad you enjoyed your trip!:thumbsup2

And I should have listened to you much sooner! :goodvibes

I'm curious about the time for the flag family and exactly what you get to do.

Ask about it at check in - they take one family per day and you must sign up for it while you're there (you can't book it in advance). You have to be to the lobby by 8AM. Then a CM takes you up to the top of the building, and first you get to check out the view and take photos of it all. Then you get to raise all the flags. There are five flags: USA flag, WDW flag, 2 WL flags and the Florida flag. Afterwards you get a special certificate and then you go back down through the 7th floor where you get the complimentary breakfast. My DD absolutely loved it, and all day long when she looked up at the flags she was proud that she had helped put them up there. :)

That's Excellent to hear! DW and I have been in shambles trying to decide between POFQ and WL, and I think you just made our choice a little easier!

We've done both! I loved POFQ - the size is fantastic, as was the pool and the boat to DTD. But, WL really was more convenient for us, we loved the rooms, having a great restaurant right there and the proximity to MK was truly magical. That said, I still love POFQ and very highly recommend it!

I had felt kind of "meh" about WL at first - I didn't really consider it much because the theming seemed so similar to what we'd find in Colorado. Then we happened to book a dinner at WCC last year, and the second we stepped into the lobby at WL it was all over. Even my DD, then five, gasped and said "Wow! I want to stay here!" She wouldn't leave that night until we walked around all the buildings so she could see the outside too. :lmao:

Nothing we've seen here in Colorado could take away from how beautiful WL is! And there are little things that give it a special look - like all the Spanish moss in the trees. You don't get that here! And seeing the monorail gliding by through the trees, being able to hop in a boat and be at the MK in 10 minutes. :)

I honestly have no desire to stay anywhere else now. We were planning on the Poly next, but I just can't imagine going back without being at WL. So while it is a similar feel to what you might find in Colorado, it definitely is unique and very special - and very Disney! :wizard:
