We arrived home yesterday from our 6th Magical cruise and it was all that and more! I trip report will be forth coming in the next few days, but the short version is that we had an awesome time! This vacation never fails to meet our expectations and each voyage has been just as incredible as the last. For us DCL is the ideal vacation product and worth every cent of the price! The only complaint we ever have is that 7 nights is way too short, one day we'll do either repo cruise or back to back, maybe then we'll feel like we've had enough of the ship for a while, but that hasn't happened yet.

Loved all of the enhancements since the last dry dock and found everything to be simply, in a word, excellent!

More later, chao for now!

I can't wait to hear your report! We go on our first cruise ever on the 17th of Sept! 11 Day cruise! Woo Hoo!! :Pinkbounc

Happy to hear, not surprised....Anxious for your report Allears...I am heading out in the AM for NY on the crown. I am leaving open minded, and anxious to have a good time, just not a DCL good time.. :yay: :yay:

We also just got back from the cruise yesterday and are going again on the January 6, 2007. The cruise was great and the whole family enjoyed themselves. While this is a bit off topic, I thought that those who are about to go on the ship might be reading this thread. Here are our list of must do's on the cruise:

1. Anyone with kids between the ages of 10 and 15 need to definitely check out the Ocean Quest lab on Deck 2. My girls (age 12) practically lived either there or at the Oceaneer Lab. (Quest is THE Best chill out place for 10-14--according to my DD).

2. Anyone with children need to make sure that they participate in the Disney Sea University finale on Thursday at 5 pm. The kids are on stage with Mickey and Minnie. And, DCL gives each kid a graduation hat with Mickey ears and t-shirt that the child gets to keep. My girls took a sharpie and had the counselors and other kids autograph their shirts.

3. If you want to see the island at St. Thomas, go on the island tour.

4. All guys should at least take a coat and tie for formal night, whicch is on Sunday evening. I took a suit and was glad I did. We got some great pictures from that night (especially the one with the Captain of ths Ship).

5. We did not take anything to dress up in on pirate night (which is Tuesday night) and I regret that we did not. Next time we defintiely are. In fact, I know that Wal-Mart is selling a pirate eye patch and fake earing now for Halloween for one dollar. Much, much cheaper than on the ship.

6. Pictures with Captain Jack on the ship. Captain Jack was only available 2 times for pictures on the ship--Tuesday night. Definitely go and get pictures with him and make sure you get there early. (He acts EXACTLY like the Captain Jack in the movie).

7. Complete your registration documents online. It made checking in at the Port so much easier and faster.

8. Anyone who is not already a Disney Vacation Club member and is contemplating on becoming one, wait, if you can, until the cruise. They appeared to be running a really good deal on the ship.

9. At Castaway Cay definitely eat breakfast at Topsiders. You get a great view of the Flying Dutchman from up there.

10. Meeting the first day of the cruise--We had one at Promenade at 2:30 pm on the first day of the cruise which was great. I then could names and faces together for the remainder of the cruise.

11. If your children at the same age as mine (11-12) take Walkie-talkie radios for eveyone in the family--DH, DW, and kids. We did not and needed them to keep track of where everyone was. (And, make sure you take plenty of batteries--the batteries on board were VERY expensive).

12. Before the cruise, go and buy Airborne at the local drugstore and take it every day of the cruise. I did not run into anyone that seemed to have a cold. Yet, I came home with one. And, both my DD and the woman at the next table at breakfast on Saturday were both sniffling.

13. If you like Chocolate, plan on going to the midnight dessert buffet which was on Thursday night.

14. If you would like something autographed (picture, pillow case, mouse pad, etc) by the characters. Drop it off at Guest Services early in the week and they will assure that it gets autographed. (One of the little girls that figure skate with my DDs wanted an autographed picture of Minnie Mouse. So I downloaded one from the internet, printed it on photo paper, and we had that autographed).

15. Definitely take rain ponchos-the ones that cost about a dollar or two at Wal-Mart and take with you when you leave the ship. It rained at some point in St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay. The small ponchos are easy to carry and can be discarded when you are done with them.

16. For families with smaill children, purchase an autograph book and pen at Wal-Mart before you get the cruise terminal as it is much cheaper than at the terminal or on the ship.

17. Disposable cameras--take them and let your kids use them. We took disposable cameras for the girls that they could take with them and use to take pictures of their friends. Write their names and cabin number on them and if they lose them they will undoubtedly get turned into Guest Services and make their way back to the cabin.

18. Make a door poster for your cabin door. It made it very easy to know which door was ours. And, the girls thought it was very cool because our signs were pictures from Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

Ditto on that a lot of people dress for pirate night - mostly black t-shirts with pirate pictures.

I don't know about the shops on the Eastern ports, but on the Western ports (Cozumel, Costa Maya) lots of people bought black pirate t-shirts that looked really neat.

And these pirate t-shirts had either "Costa Maya" or "Cozumel" written on them.

I was hoping somebody would start a report thread for us! I didn't do enough exciting stuff to do my own report. For me it was just enjoy my free time and sit staring at the water for a couple hours at a time!

The only bad part about the cruise is that we were in one of the 6 or 7 cabins that required work done to it a couple days that week. They agreed to schedule some of the work when we were on our excursion in St. Thomas. The workers left the verandah completely filthy, but that was easy enough for me to wipe up. However, I didn't know they weren't done. We came back from CC around noon to find a bunch of men in our room and one said "Oh, you came back early." Um....I didn't know I was supposed to be gone longer. If DCL had told me they needed to come back to do more work, I would have planned the day accordingly. They needed 4 more hours, so me and DS4 were trying to find stuff to do. Not much going on onboard on CC day and he was too hot and tired to want to get back off the ship again. Finally, around 4:00 I basically had to kick them out of our room because my little guy was so tired and wanted to rest.

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm making too much out of this, just had to vent a bit. I just wish they would have told me they needed to come back a 2nd day to work on our room. When we finally kicked the guys out, the room was filled with white dust from whatever they were working on AND cigarette smoke from the workers smoking on the verandah. Guest services offered me a bottle of wine at dinner that night, but I don't drink wine. So they gave me 1 free cocktail. Whoopee. That SO doesn't compensate for basically being kicked out of our room for a big part of that day. BUT it's over and done with, and now I'm ready to start planning the next one! :thumbsup2

BY THE WAY, it was great to meet those of you I had the chance to meet! Some I never saw again after the meet or maybe once or twice in passing, but some of you I saw all over the ship and even a couple of cabins down from us! :teeth:

Just subscribing to the thread! I can't wait for the report. I'm with Holly - I really spent time just chasing the kids and don't think I have enough for a good report. Since this was my first cruise - it was a bit overwhelming. We had a BLAST, however and I am still in awe at how wonderful it was.

Jen

Holly - Sorry to hear about your room. My parents were on deck 6 and said that the crew was working and it was loud!! I'm glad you didn't let it ruin your magic. I guess if the ship is out to sea all the time, they have to try and fix things as they can. :confused3

How did Tyler like to club this year? Anthony, DS3, did not care too much about being there. I think he may have been like Tyler was last year. I found it frustrating at times, especially when I wanted some "down" time for me.

We really had a great couple of weeks and are looking forward to your trip report. It was nice meeting those of your that we were lucky enough to run into. Hopefully we will see some of you again.

Thanks,
Brian and Shelley

:rotfl: Although my report will probably not be as exciting as anyone else's here goes.

We drove down on the Friday before the cruise without any exciting (other than the typical arguing about which DVD to watch. I would have killed for even a TV when I was growing up. Our only excitement was when farm animals came into view from the windows, but I digress). We stayed at the Radisson at the Port, which is very nice and my DDs loved the pool. To assure that we did not have any trouble with getting on one of the first shuttles to the Port, I called ahead and asked to be scheduled for the first shuttle.

Check-in was uneventful, but we did get one surprise. When we arrived, we were assigned to Group 5 for boarding. When we checked in at the Castway Club counter, the woman changed our group number from 5 to 3. And, everyone got their new lanyards, which excited the girls. (Later they would realize that people fill these lanyards up with pins and they tried to do that as soon as humanly possible).

Soon after we got on the ship, the girls discovered Quean Quest on Deck 2. (Nirvana for children 10 to 14). From that date on, the girls insisted on being at either Quest or at the Lab with the 10-12 age group. (I believe that the girls attempted to convince others that they had come on the cruise sans adults and they attempted to pretend that they did not know us when we showed up to check on them. :rotfl: Which was a REALLY bad idea as it just encouraged me to speak louder.)

Pirate night was awesome. My only regret is that I did not have a costume to dress up in for that night. I encourage anyone who is going to take some type of costume. And, watch for where and when Captain Jack is going to be for photos. That is a definite must and he is available for photos on the ship ONLY on pirate night.

In St. Maarten we got the privilege of getting drenched in a rainstorm, but the island was nice. I did not go on thjs island tour, but was told by someone who did that it is definitely NOT worth the money.

In St. Thomas, we went shopping at the Mall at the dock. If you watch, you can get some really good deals there. My girls got shirts and skirts and really good prices. The island tour at St. Thomas is a must if you want a good overview of the island.

Castaway Cay was as beautiful as ever. On the previous cruises, we did not go to Serenity Bay, but we did on this one. All adults should plan on going down there. And, they should eat there. The food was definitely better than Cookies.

I was one of those husbands that reluctantly took a suit for formal night. And, I am glad I did now. We got a lot of nice pictures of the family that night.

Finally, my DDs had their twelfth birthday on the ship. Everyone there made a big deal about it and they REALLY, REALLY enjoyed themselves.

Has the Magic traded out their old shampoo yet for the new H2O products that are supposed to be coming?

Thanks.

Not yet. I was really hoping we'd be lucky enough to get the new stuff, but no such luck. Oh well....just more new stuff to look forward to for next time! :thumbsup2

Hello gang! I started posting my own trip report as I didn't realize this thread was here- so if you're interested in my probably borring report, check it out =).

Holly, I'm sorry I didn't run into you more! And, I'm sorry to hear about your room! That really stinks that they weren't more able to let you knwo when they'd be there. - but you could've sent the wine my way :)

I thought once I got home I'd be able to kick my addiction to the DIS...apparently not yet.

Oh, and to the poster who asked, no new shampoo yet.

Your parents were right...the work being done on the rooms was really loud! But that didn't bother me as much as not being able to go to my room when I wanted. I understand they have to do work constantly, but my beef is that they just should have let me know they had to come back a 2nd day and we could have planned accordingly. BUT the experience definitely did not diminish my love for DCL! Already can't wait for the next cruise!

Sounds like Anthony was just like how Tyler was last year about the kids club. Last year, I couldn't get him to stay without me, except for about an hour the last night of the cruise. I think it's just too scary for them at that age because it's a new place to them. New people, new place, a ship in the middle of all that water, mom tries to drop him off and leave, etc. BUT, if Anthony is anything like Tyler, next year you'll have all the free time you want! :thumbsup2 While I was checking us in, he started asking, "Can I go to the kids' club now?" I struggled to get him to wait until after dinner and then he was there every day. Only 1/2 hour the first day, but longer each day and twice a day by day 4! He was there FIVE HOURS the last night! :teeth: Don't get me wrong----I loved our time together and would pick him up before any activity I thought he'd love to do with me, but I wanted to relax too! So you should definitely give it a try again next year and I'm sure you'll see a big difference when Anthony's a year older.

Hey, you know what Courtney? I did have your room number written down so I could call you and set up times for Maggie and Tyler to go to the club together, but we were so busy, I just forgot! Sorry! I wish we had run into each other more too. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to be on the same cruise in the future. :teeth:

Thanks for the forecast!! I really hope Anthony does that in the future. I was just a little disappointed and had hyped myself up about getting time alone to relax and have them go to the club for a while. However, I did get over it, eventually... :sunny: :rotfl2: DH Joe was a little help and would take him for a while so I could get something to eat for lunch and sit on the deck and watch the water. Then we would all go to the Mickey Pool for swimming.

Look at the bright side. You have not yet gotten to the point where your children tell you NOT to talk to ANYONE or you are going to embarass them, which is what the girls say to me believing it will curtail me talking to others. They still do not realize that such admonitions encourage me to only talk more, which starts the eye rolling. At that point, I then ask them if they are looking for their brains. They must be looking for them because they lost them by speaking to their father that way. I do not get any guff for a while then.

Ooooo. I can't wait!!! :woohoo: At this point they are at the age I feel they embarass me when they yell and argue with each other. Why is is that we teach them to walk and talk?!?!? :rotfl2: :confused3

My DD 7 is already rolling her eyes, so I have so much more of that in the future.

Great trip report! Thanks for sharing!!!
