Just back from 6 nights at BLT ... it was (mostly!) better than we even expected!

We're just back from our first stay at BLT, and we (dh, ds and I) just loved it. The room (we had a LV 1bd on the 4th floor near the walkway elevators), the landscaping, the view, the pool, TOW lounge .... everything!!! We are so glad that we decided to buy in there. We had family that live locally come over and they were really impressed, too. Everything about the place is a perfect fit for our family and our vacationing style.

Everything, that is, except the SMELL of the villa! It was some kind of spicy/floral/hideous room deodorizer that smacked us in the face every time we walked in. We opened the doors, ran the air ... nothing got rid of it.

This afternoon when I unpacked the clothes I'd washed while there, the smell was IN them. I literally have to rewash everything because that scent has permeated every piece of clothing we had in that room.

Oh, and we got the "pre-checkout knock" harassing us at 9 a.m. today. My dh just happened to be coming back from dropping our bags at the airport check-in desk, and he told the CM, "Look, check-out time is 11 a.m., two hours from now. We're not leaving yet." This really does seem to happen on every DVC trip we've taken, no matter which resort it is. And it is a bit annoying.

Anyway, we are completely happy with our purchase and are thrilled at the prospect of many years of vacations at our beloved BLT (if we can just get rid of that smell, LOL!).

Sounds like you had a wonderful time at Bay Lake Tower except for the SMELL and KNOCK.

I stayed at BLT 3 weeks ago on the 14th floor and did not have the smell and stayed in the room until 10:45 on check out day with no knock to leave. I guess my mousekeeper was not as anxious as yours to clean the room.

We were there from September 12th to 19th and stayed at 11th floor (room 8116), with spectacular views of the castle.

But did not notice any smell. :confused3

Our housekeeper must be an overachiever, LOL! Eager to clean and a little overzealous with the room deodorizer, LOL! ;)

I thought I'd post a quick photo of the view we had, too ... we were the first villa in the hallway, so we didn't have a "shared" balcony at all.

Did you have your Do Not Disturb sign out, I have never gotten one of these rude door knocks, and glad I don't.

Yup, we sure did. We didn't take it off 'til we were actually leaving, about a half hour after the CM came to the door.

I know it's really not that big a deal, it's just a little annoying to feel like you're being rushed out the door.

This happened to us at the Swan once. I opened the door & told the mousekeeper we would be checking out at check out time & not any earlier. If we are checking out early & see the mousekeeper, we do tell them so they can clean the room for another guest.

I can't imagie what that smell was? Did you ask the mousekeeper?

I'm glad you had a nice vacation even with these few things.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at BLT. And thanks for posting your photo of the view from your room.

We really did. There's so much to do, both at BLT and the CR, that it really has a nice vacation resort feel to it. :thumbsup2

We actually never saw our mousekeeper. We always cancel our trash & towel because I wash our towels and we take out our own trash. And we were pretty certain it was a deodorizer ... I've read here on the DIS about other visitors who've ended up with heavily-scented rooms. We didn't want to move rooms and we knew it wouldn't get any worse with no mousekeepers coming in, so we just lived with it.

Thanks! It really is an amazing resort and we totally fell in love with it.

You're welcome! :) We really liked being on the fourth floor. It was above the action in the courtyard, but it was still a lovely view.

Glad you liked the resort and thanks for the pic.

We have never had the check out knock at any Disney Resort...thankfully!

Oh believe me if my DND sign is out it would bother me too. Funny how some of the housekeeping can be so different.

At SSR I had my sign out, forgot about it actually and called for some more toliet tissue and I kept waiting and then the phone rang and it was housekeeping saying they came down with it but would not disturb me due to the sign.

If they knocked on my door before check out and my sign was out I would be calling and letting them know.

We also forgot we had our sign out once this trip after calling down for an extra blanket. They called us and we felt so bad for leaving the sign out and making them make a second trip! And the fact that they called on that occasion and not on checkout day makes it seem even more apparent that they were sort of rushing us out. :rolleyes1

We never received any knock. Sometimes we remember to put the DND sign out, sometimes we don't. But, from now on, I'll make sure to!
Glad you loved your stay.

"Heavily-scented room" sometimes means that the previous occupant snuck some smokes and the staff sprayed to try to get rid of the tobacco smell.

This reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where the car valet had BO and it stuck to the car, Jerry, and Elaine's hair. At least it wasn't BO. :rotfl: Anyway, glad the rest of your trip was good!

Thanks!! :goodvibes

Ah! I didn't even think of that! And we'd definitely rather smell the deodorizer than smoke. ::yes::

LOL! BO *definitely* would've warranted a room change! With how wicked hot and humid it was, we got enough of that in the parks!! :rotfl:

My thoughts exactly. Either way, I would have requested another room, as I have asthma, and this would not do.

OP - Did you find the hallways to be noisy with folks going to the walkway? We own at BLT and when we toured it last mth, DH said he hopes to never stay on that floor. Of course it makes for quick access to CR!
