We just returned from our first trip to Vero Beach -- it is glorious and you all must go there at least once!

The staff was extremely friendly, the food was good, and the activities were lots of fun. We had our teenage granddaughter with us, and even on a rainy day there was plenty for her and us to do at the resort. We were impressed with the array of activities -- there seems to be something for everyone. Our favorites were the sand casting craft with Rita, the guided beach walk to hunt for "sea beans," and the campfire (with s'mores, of course). Special activities on New Year's Eve included a delicious buffet dinner offered in addition to what was served in the restaurants, and the Family Celebration New Year's Eve Party which had entertainment, plenty of noisemakers, party favors, snacks, and fun!

Since joining DVC two years ago, we have now stayed at every DVC resort, and Vero is our definite favorite. We liked it so much that we're now making it our second DVC home.

I'd be happy to answer any questions.

We are OKW/VB owners and our son just moved down to the Atlanta area. He can't wait to visit us at HH and OKW this year. Even though he is out on his own, there is nothing like "mooching" off the parents while on vacation!:pinkbounc

Walter,
I see you're from Amherst, NY. That's my hometown! Small world.... I bet OKW/VB are looking good about now, considering the winter you're having. :) Don't feel bad.. it snowed in Atlanta last week.

Hey KMarie, you've made me so excited about this...we are going to stay in Vero later this year. What type of room did you have and how was it compared to other resort room sizes? Where would you recommend that we put in a request for our room to be?

Thanks!!

Pentex,
We stayed in an Inn room on the second floor, room 2220, and we had a view of the "croquet lawn", the plants in the dunes, and the ocean water. The view did not include the beach -- the resort sits in the dunes that are higher than the beach what we saw were plants and then the expanse of water. The Inn rooms are a tiny bit bigger than a DVC resort studio and have two queen size beds along with a bath, the "kitchette" that has the microwave, sink, small refrigerator, coffee pot, paper plates and plastic spoons, etc. We requested an ocean view Inn room for our first trip because we learned on this board :) that booking an oceanview Inn room was the best way to get a guaranteed ocean view.

Next time, however, we will stay in a 1-bedroom. We want to have the full kitchen to be able to sample the local fish market and cook up some dinners ourselves, rather than rely on microwaveable food and restaurants as we did this trip. I had a CM show me a 1-bedroom, and the lay out is similar to the 1-bedroom at OKW, but I'd say a bit smaller. The room I saw was in Building 12 on the first floor, and the view was of the lush tropical foliage, but I could hear the crashing ocean waves from the porch. If you request a 1-bedroom with a direct ocean view on the top floor, I you will get an ocean view as good as in the Inn. The 1-bedroom I saw also was a lock off to a studio. The Vero studios are smaller than the Inn rooms and seem to be on the corners of the buildings. They are furnished like your typical DVC resort studios with a queen bed and a sofa-sleeper.

If you have kids, they should love Vero Beach. The activities offered by resort can really break up the day for those who might get tired of playing on the beach all day. The activities aren't too long or too short, either. Plus, there's the pool with a big slide, a kiddie pool with fountains, a hot jacuzzi, a mini-golf course, shuffle board at the resort. It was plenty to keep us busy!

Thank you for all your comments!! So, I assume that the Inn is a separate building from the Vero building?

I can't wait to go now...the kids are going to love this (it's a surprise to them and my hubby).

There is a main building (the Inn) which contains the Inn-rooms and several smaller buildings that house the Studio, 1BR and 2BR units. There are also several Beach Cottages which are the 3BR units. Each Beach Cottage houses 1 3BR unit and is like a free-standing house.

We also love Vero and try to make it there for a couple days every trip.

Michele
