We just got in last night and thought I'd share some observations.
Also - meant to mention we rented a car for the 10 days but decided to use the ME check in at OKW the day of our departure. We had two bags to check as well as 3 golf bags. You have to check everything at the front desk at least 3 hours before your flight departure. They printed out our boarding passes and took all of our check-in luggage. DH was alittle apprehensive about his golf clubs but everything made it back to Seattle just fine. Our waiter at Olivias mentioned that this will only be free thru the 50th Celebration and then Disney will start charging for the service. So enjoy it will it lasts!
This may have already been discussed but there is just one Member Update meeting now. It is on Thursday at 3:00 at SSR. No big news at the one we attended, just general discussion about the latest attractions for the 50th B-Day. They did a slide show presentation and then a raffle drawing after. They gave away a DVC watch, spa t-shirt and DVC umbrella. If you're not staying at SSR and have no car it could be alittle challenging to go to the meetings now.
We liked the slide at OKW but it has certainly changed the mix of families at the HH pool. Lots more young families using the HH pool and possibly some of these were pool hopping. We wound up using the Turtle Pond pool just because more quiet and easier to get a table for your stuff. I didn't realize the snack bar was closed now. Is that just seasonal?
We stayed our first night at LBV suites (very nice for a late arrival) and checked in to OKW about 9:30 the next morning. Room was not ready so we gave Bell services our groceries and left for Epcot. Came back and room still not ready. They said the carpets had to be cleaned. Room wasn't ready til 4:30 but it did meet all our requests; non-smoking, non-HA, top floor so we were happy.
The DVC boat leaves once an hour now to DD until 4:00. Then its every 20-25 minutes. Maybe that's not a change but I don't remember the once per hour limit.
It was a great time of year to go with mild weather and few crowds. We only encountered mega crowds for the late night hours at Epcot and MK. We noticed lots more British guests this time. Spoke with a English man who was also waiting for his family to ride Mission Space and he said it was very cheap now to go due to the weakened dollar.
Only scary event to happen was seeing a little girl about two years old who had her head stuck between the iron posts on the iron fence around the Crystal Palace! She was laying there crying while about 4 Disney Security guards tried to get her out. Her poor mom was frantic but they eventually got her out and everyone cheered! Just when you think you've seen it all....
