Just back- Food @ Concierge - IMHO...

The concierge is considered a "lounge" so I think lounge wear is perfectly acceptable. Nice jammie pants and a top with flipflops is fine by me - we're all on vacation - relaxed - if you want dressed up go out to eat at a restaurant - sometimes you won't find any better there! To each his own.

Loungewear and "jammies" are two different types of apparel. At least the ones I know of. Loungewear are very nice silky or satiny dressy type but comfortable pants and a nice comfy shirt that usually matches. They do not look like something you would sleep in although you could. Jammies are usually flannel things or similar with prints on them that are made for sleeping in. If you go into Macy's they have an entire section of loungewear and you won't find any with Tink, Donald, or even ScoobyDo on them! They are generally classy outfits suitable for lounging around your home though never in a public area. The lounge in the concierge is no different then the special lounges at the airport for the elite frequent flyers. They have food and are called lounges but you can't tell you would wear your jammies in there would you? Why anyone thinks it's okay to show up in public in their pjs just amazes me.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, But I swear I was given somthing from AKl's preplanning office that stated, no night clothes or swimsuits without cover ups and proper footwear???? I of course can not locate my paperwork, Although I swear I saw that. Anyone have thiers?

Well, I guess I don't have common sense! Gee, I have gotten along pretty good in life and have been told that I do have Common Sense and Good Taste. Attacking people for their opinion is not what these boards are about, stating your point of view is fine. So what you are telling me is all the cheerleaders as well as Adult wearing the lounge pants with characters on them are all in the wrong. This subject has a VERY FINE LINE! You say one shouldn't go out in public , yet to go swimming you are in a very public place barely dressed!?! You want to go by the lounge and pick up a drink on your way in from the pool.........yet you think that is wrong. I can completely understand someone NOT USING COMMON SENSE and running down in just a night gown, but please. If the staff had not made comments to the fact that "If you want coffee in the morning before you get dressed just throw on the robe and run down and get your coffee" and I do quote that statement. If they made it CLEAR that ATTIRE was an issue then we would have something to complain about. Why is it that because someone's opinion differs from yours you slam someone by saying they don't have Common Sense! Maybe that statement can be applied to you as well. As for your statement about Captain Cooks..........I did see about 4 kids and several adults in there with the lounge pants on and NO they where NOT us. Let's get real........you can honestly tell me that you don't see people in the lounge pants in stores or anywhere else. Let's not get personal and cut people down. Your points are taken, but there are a lot of people that differ with YOU and that DOES NOT make them WRONG! Would you consider someone dressed but with curlers in their hair wrong for going to the lounge to get a coffee? Would you consider someone with shorts and a shirt on but put a bathrobe over them because they where cold wrong?
Would you consider someone with a Bathingsuit Cover down to their knees covering their bathingsuit wrong? Would you consider the man that runs out to get his paper in lounge pants wrong? Would you consider the woman would runs out in a bathrobe to the mail wrong? My point is that their are all kinds of situations and you DO NOT KNOW what theirs are or what THEY have been told by staff. Fine, you or your family would NOT do it. Don't get nasty towards other people.
For the record I watched SEVERAL CM's tell the children how cute they where in their jammies as well as one woman. I personally don't wear mine down, but my dd has.

I hope everyone has a Safe & Happy New Year!

Anyone with common sense should realize that jammies are NOT appropriate attire for a public place. Would you go to Captain Cooks in your jammies too? It is the same thing.

Yes I would wear the kind of pants Im talking about to run down to captain cooks for a coffee!!!And I do have common sense. I also go back to my room get a shower and dress for the parks you may not like what I wear there either humm?? Maybe Disney should have a dress code for there also.
Im sure those of you who are sooooo upset about this must be looking absolutely smashing and fabulous your whole trip!! Im sure none are wearing things others may think you shouldnt. like Wendi said maybe wearing a bathing suit that others may think is not appropriate for your size ect.....
This is Disney we are talking about it is vacation. I feel very confident that I will not look freakish in the lounge grabbing my coffee to bring back to the room. Also I dont judge others by the clothes they are wearing I suggest others do the same.
I wonder should I put all my makeup on also before I grab my coffee????

I don't think Skwee has personally attacked anyone. She has just stated her opinion. The personal attacks seem to be directed AT her.

Skiwee, I personally agree with all your points. And I think we are as entitled to our opinion as anyone else. The fact that some of us think it's inapproriate to run around in front of others in pjs doesn't make us judgemental. It's just our opinion as the rest of you have yours.

As long as your flaming us, let me also say that no matter how cute little ones are in pjs, I think that parents need to start teaching appropriate boundaries early. Otherwise, kids never learn and will always think that whatever they personally feel like doing must be OK.

One last point....we've only stayed concierge at GF Sugar Loaf and the Polynesian but whoever said food should only be consumed in the lounge must not be considering however many rooms are in those respective concierge buildings. I think 90 is a conservative number. Multiply by 3, 4 or even 5 people per room and there is no way all the guests could find a table during the course of an offering. In our case, two of our children have disabilities plus we have two diabetics. Between shots and extra time for dressing, we've never all made it to the lounge for continental breakfast. That does free up more space for others who like to take their breakfast in the lounge.

Flame away!

First off, I did NOT FLAME anyone in my post. PLEASE show me how I FLAMED anyone. I was not the one stating that if I didn't think the way they did, I didn't have Common Sense. Opinions are that ~ OPINIONS! Go figure...we all think a little differently. Wouldn't the World be rather boring if we all thought the same.
You are entitled to your point of view as well and you are welcome to agree or disagree with anyone. Just don't try to insult for imply a lack of intelligence because someone does NOT think the same way as you. Each person has a point, but that does not mean I have to live by what you say is right.

There is a Cheerleading team here in Houston that a friend of mine has 2 daughters on and in a COMPETITION one routine outfit consisted of "LOUNGE PANTS" over their leotard. So, you might always consider them pj's, but more and more places and people are considering them "casual wear".

As for your info on the dine in the lounge always, I agree. We were told to take it back to our room though when we where at the Sugar Loaf. It's all in WHO you talk to.

Have a Safe & Happy New Year!
Wendi

Wendi, I was not addressing you in particular or anyone for that matter. I do think Skiwee was being personally flamed..don't tremember by whom or care.

I also said nothing about intelligence!

Nor did I imply that everyone should live by what I think is appropriate.....appropriate BTW not right.

Completely agree with you that we all entitled to our own opinions. Even if they differ from high school cheerleaders in TX!:sunny:

Happy New Year to you and everyone else. I will be in my loungewear when we ring in the New Year. 'Course I'll be home!
Just teasing!:teeth:

Sorry BCV23,

It just seemed to be directed towards my post.
My statement in reguards to intelligence was in reference to skiwee, they did make a statement that implied that.

As for my statement about we all don't have to live the same was just that a statement to make others think.

Like I said from the start, This IS a Tender Subject with a FINE LINE. We have lucky enough to have stayed Concierge 3 times and at 3 different Resorts and the Castmembers are the ones that told us to "Use the robes to come down to the lounge", "Use the trays from under the ice bucket to take things back to your room", as well as "Have the kids come get some snacks after they get out of the bath tub"(at night).

I think we can all agree to some point with each and every poster, but we all do different things. I have met some WONDERFUL People here on these boards and many more at the Resorts, so I don't always consider them strangers because we all have the LOVE OF DISNEY! How many times have we all looked at a few people in the parks and wondered where they got dressed because we didn't agree with their outfits. They think they look fine, so to each is own. Now if you are running around naked, I might say something.:hyper: :hyper:

Ok, I will calm down now. In NO way was I attacking anyone. I was just trying to defend myself and explain better where I was coming from.

Have a Safe & Happy New Year!
Wendi

You, too! And everyone else as well.:wave2:

I'll add my two cents in here again...

As a family of five (2 adults, 3 kids) we are now limited to choiced on-property. POR (Alligator Bayou) or a deluxe. We stayed at POR (AB) this summer and my dh did not like it that much. We love AKL, however and must end up with the Deluxe Room to hold 5 people. With the AP rate, the difference between Concierge and Deluxe room sometimes is less that $50. That is what I am hoping for next year. At that difference, even if we just get breakfast and desserts, itinerary planning, turndown service (my kids love the chocolates) we are getting a good deal.

I've looked at other options. Two rooms at CBR for instance could run us, with AP rate, 2 rooms X $79/nt X 1.11 (tax) X 8 nights = $1403.04. If, IF IF IF, we can get AKL Concierge for $249 nt it would come to $2211.12. A difference of $808.08. Now, depending on AP rates, it could be more or less. I will be making a final decision when they come out.

On big factor is that we LOVE AKL, the smell, the bus service, the lack of walking to your bldg. But money will talk in the end. :p

I'm done rambling now. Basically I like AKL Concierge, but with no bottled water now... :(

While I am sitting here in my Pjs (lounge pants) I have friends over Happy new year!!!!!!!!!!!! :) lol lol :)

No one will ever agree as to what is proper and what is not proper. Everyone is different and alot of it is based on how and where we are raised. Standards for attire are very different from person to person and area to area and country to county.

As to getting one's PJ's in twist over what someone else says about a situation. Sometimes I think people protest too much in defense. If you feel you are right, then why argue your point. It only makes you look unsure.

Happy New Year to all.

OT but, At the Grand Californian (Disneyland) a CM tells a bedtime story with chocolate chip cookies and milk in the lounge before the fireworks. All the kids wear their jammies and bring pillows and stuffed animals. Very Fun!!

I also have a son with special needs and most times eat in our room. CM's know this and help me get what he wants and will get us a tray from the back. Sure does make things easier::yes::

We have stayed concierge four (I think?) times. Only a few times have we seen someone in their pajamas come into the lounge. Most of the time they got their food/drinks on a tray and left in a hurry. A couple of times they (both times women) sat down and had breakfast. They stood out like sore thumbs and it was actually a bit awkward because people were trying not to stare but it was really odd. It felt like you were plunked into someone's kitchen, having breakfast with a stranger who had just rolled out of bed. Very uncomfortable.

As far as food, we ate breakfast most mornings (none of us are big breakfast eaters) and then usually had dessert in the evenings. We love the restaurants too much and were in the parks or at restaurants when most of the mid-day and late afternoon offerings were out. It was nice to be able to run by and get something to drink, and we saw the fireworks from the Polynesian lounge several times (when we were staying garden view -- nice not to have to spend money for a view which we only cared about for a few minutes each day!)

I have to reiterate that the concierge experience has worked for us. We have stayed 3x at 2 different resorts. We are able to take advantage of the offerings to a fuller extent in the winter when the parks are not open as late. We do enjoy the breakfast benefit the most. The offerings are more that what we would usually eat at home, we are not big breakfast food eaters. It saves us from having to go to Captain Cooks and spending @30 or more a day for an okay breakfast. We usually have Cinderella's Royal Table PS one day, courtesy of the concierge. I am not getting up and doing the "dial and hope" routine again! When we do get breakfast items we do bring them back to the room. There is not enough room most of the time for us to eat in the lounge and I have no desire to when I can let the girls eat and get ready at the same time. There are trays and they are for that purpose. The drinks available are also a convenience and money saver. We drink a lot and $2.50 everytime you want a drink or hopping over to refill a mug is a lot less attractive that having one in your room or the conc. lounge to grab. In the evenings we would often have apps in the lounge, grab the girls some hotdogs/etc. from Capt. Cook's and take off for Epcot to have quick service or at a sit-down restaurant, salads or apps again. We feel that conc. is great, for the discount rate. I would never, NEVER pay rack rate for it. But I would not pay rack rate for any resort room at WDW. We did it once and that was enough. The current AP rate on the garden view conc. is $239 I think and I feel like it is really worth it.

I don't want to get into this whole pajama war, but ...

I teach at a college and let me tell you that the pajama pants are IN STYLE. Many kids come to class in pajama pants (and I'm not talking about 8:30 am classes!). Even ones with big pink pigs on them!!! They also wear stocking caps(ski mask type) all day - not just when they are outside.

Maggie
