In order of quality, DH and I both agree on the following ranking.
1. Shula's. This is the best choice for steak...considering it is a grade above prime. Yachtsman Steak House boasts "high quality beef". They left "prime" years ago, and I think they are still serving "choice.
2. Jiko's. We found the menu interesting, and well prepared. This would be our second favorite.
3. Spoodles. We have never dined here. We have gone with the DSs in the past and they all had "their sentimental favorites". This is a new favorite for us and the entrees are reasonably priced, given the quality and uniqueness of the menu; between $16 and $25 (off the top of my head). The appetizers, greek salad, desserts are wonderful as well.
4. California Grill. This used to be #1 for me. The service is still great but it is noisy. DH loved his pork tenderloin. I thought my snapper was dry and the base of stir fry vegetables and sticky rice was too salty for me. I liked it but I didn't "love it". The CG has the "view" going for it. Once you get past that, Jiko's comes out ahead.
5. Portobello's. Formerly the Portobello Yacht Club. It is still owned by Levi's but the roasted garlic which was served with the sour dough bread is now an "appetizer". Vino con fruta by the pitcher "might" come back. The menu is smaller and not nearly as ambitious as it was in years past. There were no "nightly" specials. In fact, the menu hasn't changed since we ate their about a year and a half ago. What we had was delicious but it has slipped to #5.
6. Boma's. This is the best buffet because the soups and salads are interesting. Everything else was good as well.
