Just back....disappointed

We're at Disney atleast once a week and I've noticied the bathrooms have been pretty nasty lately. We went in the one in Fantasyland over by Ariel's and it was really gross. I had to look through 5 or 6 stalls to find a clean one.

I was at WDW the week before the Marathon from 12/28 - 1/7. One or two bathrooms smelled, but not all of them. I wonder if the stinky diaper and/or feminine products trash is being taken care of quick enough. I also saw lots of dirty toilets and my 6 year old is a lot fussier than I am so we opened quite a few bathroom doors before finding a clean one. Some of it dirtiness was "back spash" from a over-powerful flush, but a lot of it was from people who didn't bother to make sure the toilet flushed behind them. I manually flushed more than one potty as my 6 year rejected one after another so the next person would have a clean seat.

Another time I went into one and I turned around to see crap on the stall wall, I literally almost got sick.

I have you beat! We saw a turd on a toilet seat in the Odyssey restaurant potties on NYE. Yuck-o. I pitty the poor CM who had to clean up that mess? What are people thinking anyway? If you can't aim from above, then just sit your butt down on the seat cover!

I just got back yesterday and I am writing an email. I write an email at the conclusion of every trip mentioning the good and the bad, and naming specific CM's. I will definitely be mentioning the bathrooms. Two in particular that were really gross was the one in Norway and the one in the lobby of the Yacht Club. I literally walked out of the one at the Yacht Club and went back to my room just to go to the bathroom! Also, maybe they need to get rid of the automatic flushing toilets. It seems like people think that if they don't automatically flush (which sometimes they don't), then they can just walk out of the stall because it was *supposed* to have flushed. I encountered that waaay too much. Also, there were ridiculous quantities of toilet paper on the floors. It was just overall pretty darn gross!

We just got back for a week+ trip and the bathrooms did get progressively worse over the trip. I know that during Marathon weekend they were having plumbing problems in the restrooms by Peter Pan, and I believe they had the same plumbing issues in other areas as well.

You just answered my question...I was wondering if they were having a sewer problem on top of everything else (since everyone here was mentioning the odor). Hopefully this is now fixed...since we'll be there day after tomorrow...

:scared: Good grief! Even if I were sick and had an accident and made a mess, I wouldn't leave a present for the next person to find. I would clean it up (I would be horrified if someone went in the stall after me and thought I was the pig that left that there. Yeesh!

While Disney does have the responsibility of cleaning (and keeping clean) the restrooms, I have to say it's pretty hard to go behind thousands of people on a daily basis cleaning messes they should not have made in the first place.

I think the problem lies with the people making these messes. What is wrong with people? The only way I would leave a mess is if things were not working properly and then I would find someone to let them know it was broken.

It is not funny to leave a mess in the bathroom. It is gross and disgusting.

I wasn't the only guest who was commenting. Lots of women were walking in and saying "OMG, it smells in here". I even saw one woman turn around and walk out before using the restroom in Adventureland. Even the bathroom outside of O'Hana at the Poly smelled horrible. :crazy2:

That woman very well could have been me! OMG it was horrible. I was with DD and saw an open stall door. There was vomit in the toilet. I grabbed DD and walked down to the restroom outside the store by POTC.

There are lots of smells I can handle, we have chickens for crying out loud, they're nasty stinky, but that restroom was horrible.

I felt so bad making DD walk to another restroom but I swear I would have hurled myself if I was in there another minute.

Then one day at Epcot at one of the restrooms near SSE the door wouldn't completely open after DD used the stall. I was able to hold it open enough for her to squeeze through, thankfully she's little enough and was able to do so. An adult or older child may not have been so lucky.

Another poster mentioned the restrooms outside Peter Pan... when we went to use that one there was a CM standing in the doorway with yellow cones blocking the entrance. Something was definitely up there.

I feel that the WDW parks are kept relatively clean considering the large number of visitors. However, the MK restrooms have definitely shown their age and are in great need of an overhaul.

On our January 2005 trip, the Liberty Tree Tavern restroom in particular had a rather generous amount of chipped and peeling paint, rust marks, water stains, broken hardware, inoperable doors and an accumulation of grime that no amount of cleaning can remove.

This level of disrepair did not entirely result from some visitor's poor hygienic habits. Conditions such as these developed after years of unintentional neglect. I don't believe that providing better sanitary conditions and more updated facilities is expecting too much of Disney.

I just e-mailed a letter with the good and the bad of my trip. The good was considerably longer than the bad, since the bad was just the bathrooms. But I did rant on them. If WDW is going to encourage the kinds of crowds it does, especially over the holidays, then they darn well better staff the parks to accommodate them. Hate to see WDW turn into the "Stinkiest Place on Earth".

In my original post, I tried to remember all the outrageously stinky restrooms, but I forgot one...the ladies room in Liberty Tree Tavern. OMG! I do believe that was the most offensive of all.

I sent an email last night. It wasn't a rant, just a note advising them of the problem. When (and if) I get a reply, I'll post it here.

I agree that the WDW bathrooms have gone downhill in the past few years. They are gross!!!!! :scared1: I actually had the unfortunate experience to find 2 stalls with no paper! NO PAPER!!! I have been telling my DH for years that women just seem to lose their bathroom etiquette when they use a public bathroom. :confused3 I mean.... come on..... you wouldn't leave your bathroom at home looking like that. I am not flaming any one specfic person, you know who you are. Please for the rest of us, flush the toilet, put your paper in the trash can, wipe up the counters so the rest of us don't get soaked. Thanks!!!

I have been fortunate enough to not have experienced this :flower:

However, I have noticed the acceleration of rudeness among WDW guests with each trip, so it seems to make sense that the bathroom etiquette is going in the same direction. Everyone seems to be out for themselves with no regard for others at all :worried:

>>> ... crap on the wall ...
Someone mooned the wall at the moment of going.

>>> ... no toilet paper ...
Often I have had the desire to use paper towels or toilet paper to sop up the water on the floor in front of the toilet before using it. And sweep water off the front of the sink. So apparent toilet paper and towel consumption goes way up.

>>> ... what you don't know can't? hurt ...
1. Slobs play the game "how many times can you use the toilet between flushes"
2. Sooner or later the toilet is flushed but becomes clogged and overflows.
3. Attendant arrives with mop, swabs down the floor, actually smearing the mess over the entire area, the floor now looks clean and dry, the mess is spread thin enough that you cannot see it but not thin enough for bacteria to not grow.

I too experienced the stinky potty problem last week. I'm used to the ones in Fantasy Land being less than perfect (it seems they are always overwhelmed), but it was a regular problem almost everywhere... no matter what park, area, or restaurant. The only really spotless restroom I used was the one outside the Garden Grill in The Land.

It seems that once the "auto-flush" toilets were installed, the number of workers to clean the bathrooms dropped. Ummm... my experience with the auto-flush is that it gets my backside wet when it goes off before I'm done... and then I have to hit the button on the wall when it doesn't flush again... but maybe that's just me. :confused3

My problem with the LLT ladies bathroom was not cleanliness or disrepair, but having only 2 stalls to service the entire restaurant. The line was lengthy, I needed to use the bathroom, and they called our party. Since Disney doesn't seat without the entire party, I had to forfeit my place in line, get seated, and return to the end of the line :( We had a great dinner. Goofy loved my Mickey pen.

During Christmas i noticed that the bathrooms were horrible by Disney standards. I was disappointed by their condition.

If they can't afford to pay someone to clean up the bathrooms, how can they afford to pay someone at MGM just to walk around and insult people for laughs?

I love this quote but now I am concerned as we leave on saturday and I am a potti-aholic!!! That will totally bum me out. I actually stopped shopping at the Walmarts in my area because they can't keep thier restrooms clean. Target may be more money in some cases but I can't handle the thought of using a dirty potty and to subject my DD to that either.
I will try not to think about it for now but I guarantee if I find any of these things I will raise some holy H E double hockey sticks!!!!

Was at MGM over Christmas. In two seperate bathrooms toliets were overflowing onto the floors. How discusting. Turned around and left the bathroom. Told some outside by the little mermaid shop, they said they notified maintainence about it. Daughter was looking in the store there for about 10-15 min, no one came to fix it. Went back later it was the same.

I didn't take the time to read all the posts here so please forgive me if I repeat what someone else has said already.

I agree that custodial staff needs to stay "on top" of the bathroom situation. This is manageable providing the following is true:
Crowds use the bathrooms in "normal" ways.

Nothing is more disgusting than finding people who throw their used toilet paper on the floor, or pee on the ground, or otherwise create a mess with out regard to how they leave the place.
I do know that some international guests come from countries where throwing the tp in the toilet is not allowed due to ancient plumbing systems in their countries.....so when they visit here they are creatures of habit.

Folks- we all need to be a bit tidier.....and FLUSH the toilets too please! If the automatic toilet doesn't go automatically then push the little button please!
