Got back last night from a great trip 'home' to Beach Club Villas, arrived on Mon 4/10. DH and I took my sister and her family to WDW for their first time. On check-in at 3:30, 2 BR dedicated villa was not ready, so we hung around til 4:00 and were able to check in. Front desk CM said the Villas are "98% booked year around". Requested Epcot view, because nephew is afraid of very loud noises (fireworks), so thought it would be neat if he could at least see them from the room, as we have done several times. Not possible, we were told, and given a Woods view. If ever given a choice again, I wouldn't want it, but life goes on and didn't care to make an issue of it.

My only issue with BCV after approx. 6 stays there is the heating/cooling unit that CANNOT be turned off. Every time I stay there I come home with a horrible cold and this time was no exception. That #$@*(!$% unit runs continuously. If anyone has figured out a way to deal with it, let me know! :confused3

As usual, Beaches & Cream was great. Had breakfast at Cindy's, good food and princess interaction. Did the Brown Derby Fantasmic dinner package, which was also very good. And the Grand Gatherings Magical Fireworks cruise, which we greatly enjoyed. Bought my first AP using the DVC discount. The AP didn't work at all in the Fast Pass machines, and was reissued at the park gates 4 times. It was a little frustrating. I had to carry my photo ID with me everywhere, because the AP didn't work. Someone said it had probably demagnetized, but Guest Relations checked and said that wasn't the problem. :confused3

All in all, however, it was a magical week. Seeing WDW with my niece (9) and nephew (6) was so much fun. Edited to add: The CMs this week truly did a fantastic job adding to the magic. It was my nephew's 6th birthday and we got him the bday pins at each of the parks we visited that day. All the CMs wished him a happy birthday. He also was chosen to participate in Fest. of the Lion King. He kept saying "this place is so magical!" :wizard: I couldn't agree more. So THANK YOU CMs for keeping the magic alive! :cheer2:

Crowds weren't too bad, although we left the parks after lunch every day for a break, and then returned in the evening. If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to try to answer.

My AP doesn't often work well in the fast pass machines, but the people there to help always seem to do something to it to make it work. :confused3 maybe I am just a spaz! lol

I hope your family enjoyed the trip too! Sounds like over all a good one!

Thanks for the trip report. What was your room number and did you get two queen beds in the second bedroom? We had Room 353 in December and loved it. Did you get a chance to go in the new Beach Club Marketplace? What did you think of it? We leave in 28 days.

Let's see. What to do with a heating/AC unit that isn't working properly?
Well, kicking it hard comes to mind! :rotfl2:
I'm no mechanical engineer, but if the wall temp guage isn't working, isn't there an on off switch in the unit itself? Or maybe a wire you could accidentally pull out?

Well, I hate being too cold at night, but use a down comforter to help with that. What I really hate is AC on while I am sleeping...I ALWAYS get a cold from that and body aches the next a.m....so I hope someone writes in with a eal answer as to what to do!

Donna, we were in Room 351, faced the Beach Club hotel with the woods along the side. No view, but it didn't really matter, as we only were in the room to sleep. The second bedroom did have the 2 queens; for us, that was more important than the view, and when I requested, that was the priority I gave.

We all loved the new Marketplace! It is really nice. There is a selection of sandwiches and wraps, also a nice selection of muffins, tarts, very nice baked goods. Then there is the gelato.......yum! I think DH tried every flavor. Now if only you could get a cup of non-Nestle coffee there, it would be great! Sadly, there still isn't much in the way of DVC merchandise there.

ColoradoBelle~I think the unit was working properly; that's how it is at BCV. :sad2: I just wish I could turn it off. We had it set at 72 degrees; it actually would get so cold in there :cold: that we would turn it to 74. Then it would get too hot. The fan NEVER STOPS RUNNING! My husband is an engineer and even he said that setup is nuts. I remember reading when BCV opened, something about there is a motion sensor in there. Anyway, hopefully someone will have an answer.

Thanks for your trip report. We had a problem with the AC when we were at BCV last May (2004). Engineering came up and the room was only 58 degrees! They shut the system down for the night and first thing in the morning replaced the thermostat. When we returned to the room later in the day it was still cold. Engineering came back and found that a valve was stuck in the open position in the unit itself and had to fix it. The guy told my DH the rooms should never be that cold but if guest don't call about the temperature they can't fix the problems. Annmarie

Thanks! It sounds as if the BC Marketplace is a nice addition to the BC!

Hi,

I'm glad you had a good time!!

Ms. Sparrow aka Allison

I will be leaving in 2 mo to go back to BCV!!!! I can't wait. Your trip report got me even more excited to go back! How is the pool? Is everthing done? As far as the A/C goes, whenever I go to Disney I always bring sweat pants with me to sleep in. The rooms are freezing :cold: especially when you're trying to sleep. Thanks again for the report!

My niece and nephew loved Stormalong Bay; as usual it was quite crowded, but nobody seemed to mind. We used the Quiet pool near the Villas most of the time and the kids liked that, as well. As far as I could tell, all refurbishing was complete. Have a great trip!
