As I posted last week, on Wesnesday we were able to get a last minute reservation for a 1BR at OKW starting Sunday for 3 nights. We have stayed at BWV and VWL several times and this was our first trip to OKW. We were in building 47 room 21. The room was in very good condiition and indeed much larger than BWV or VWL. They have upgraded the VCR to a DVD player and we really enjoyed the space - especially around the dining table. It is a beautiful resort. What I did not expect was that this was by far the noisiest of the resorts at which we have stayed. One of the things my wife likes best about DVC is that I am no longer a "park commando" the spacious balcony was a great place to have a relaxed morning breakfast - except for the busses. We did not use the bus services but judging from the frequency of passing busses I'd say it must be very good! The parks were busy but not terribly crowded and the weather each day was pretty much a carbon copy - partly cloudy in the morining, rain beginning at 3. It was less hot than I expected for August which was great. All in all a great triip even with the extra airport security - hmm a family vacation with no checked baggage.... step over here please. We packed light because our room has a washer and dryer - Yeah fine, open that bag and take off your shoes......

Thanks for the info. This is the first report of the DVD instead of the VCR. They always say they want the DVC resorts to be the same so I guess the BCV is the new standard.

When you say it was the "noisiest" resort are you referencing guestnoise, transportation noise, or something else?

Just curious.

I think your noise is because of the building you were in . We stayed in building 47 once, and had the same problem with bus noise. We have never had it in any of the other buildings though. We like buildings 53,54,55 and 56 best.

We stayed at CBR 8/2-8/4 and the noise there was the final straw that broke my wifes reluctance to buy DVC. She said if we couldn't afford it, we weren't coming back because we would NEVER stay at a "moderate" resort again. Between the kids all night and the toilets starting flushing at 5:30 all around us that must pump 100psi of air through them. I've stayed at WL and VWL and don't recall having these probs. I have 3 ressies for OKW this year, Labor day, last weekend of Oct, and first weekend in Dec. I hope it's not noisy then or I'll probably be a single man

Thanks for the report. Nice to hear from another Indiana DVC member. We have stayed at VWL and BWV, but are thinking about giving OKW a try next time. Now we will know what building to avoid, as I enjoy using the balconies for a quiet cup of tea in the mornings.

mb168 -- The "noise" at OKW is not the toilet flushing, door slamming, kids screaming variety you talk about at CBR. It's the sound of a bus going by. Whether or not you hear this noise, depends on your unit. You are more likely to hear it in a studio since many of these are located on the outer corners of the buildings closer to the roads. If you get a unit that is further in the resort and on a cul-de-sac that isn't on the bus route, you won't even hear that sound.

How much the bus sounds bother you can also depend on what you are used to. If you live out in the country, you'll hear it. If you live in the suburbs, you may or may not notice it. If you come from a big city....noise, what noise? ;)

RonW mentioned being most bothered when he was out on the balcony. Of course, outside you are more likely to hear noise. It can also depend which way the wind is blowing how the sound carries.

Yes, PamOKW is correc, there was no sound problems from the neighbors just the bus noise. Building 47 is located along the main road and we were on an end unit so the balcony was very close to the road. It wasn't bad enough that we would never stay there again but we all agreed that on of the cul-de-sac units would be better.

We live out in the country where if more than 2 vehicles pass our house within an hour, it's considered a lot of traffic. :) Surprisingly, the bus noise at OKW has never bothered us. We've been in buildings near the bus stops and in buildings near a bus turnaround. I don't know if it's because we're so happy to be at OKW that we don't notice the bus noise, or we're so exhausted at night that we'd probably sleep through anything!

I don't know about that, it depends on where the cul-de-sac is located. I have been in a cul-de-sac room that had a bus turnaround and it had a lot of noise from the buses plus you saw the bus headlights shining in the rooms at night when the buses would pull in to make the turn.

Everytime I hear the noise from the bus, I am sad.... coz I am not on it! Then I am happy for all those who are.... sick isnt it.... lol

Now being from the city, it is all the birds that drive me nuts! :teeth:
