Just Back…Thoughts

Absolutely insane! I was trying to be somewhat polite and give the benefit of doubt in my story telling, but DH said the mom was totally laughing about causing the emergency shut down and evacuation. He also said she seemed totally clueless and self-centered!

Wow!! How selfish!! Not to mentioned how dangerous for all those that had to be taken off the ride. We had a member of our party that had surgery on her knee and was using a scooter. We were thankful she wasn't on the ride because she would have a very hard time. There was a boat that got stuck at the top of the hill! We felt really bad too for those that had been standing in line for so long that didn't get to ride. We left the park after they finally got off and we wondered if they ever got the ride going again. We wondered what happened to the mom and kids. We hoped that we made to leave the park but have no idea how Disney handles things like this.

How back where you guys? The part my family members were in had to have ropes tied to some of the boats and pulled to a place that they could unload. The area that they were in started singing Disney songs. They were singing "heigh ho heigh ho, its off the ride we go" :rotfl2:

Hi, we are Retired US Navy and after many years of visiting all of the Disney resorts--we now just vacation at SOG. Absolutely the best resort on Disney property. Just wondering if we can purchase our APs through Shades ahead of time?? Normally visit at least twice ayear, but this year we let them lapse so we are starting over again. We'll be there from Sept. 21st through October 4th. How was the new refurbished pool? It wasn't completed during our visit last Aug. Thanks for your report--always like to hear good things about SOG.

Yeah, that is pretty much what happened. My family members were about 2 boats back from the mom and 2 kids. They said that it looked like the mom helped the child get out of the boat and even some in the boat with that family said the mom put the child out. The child ran up the steps. The mom got out and followed leaving the other child in the boat. Not long after, the second child climbed out and ran up the steps after them. My DS said the first child slipped as she was going up the steps and step-mom said the second child lost her flip flop and went back for it. Crazy stuff!!! Who would ever think of helping your child off a ride while it was going!!

I was in line for Barnstormer (next up actually) and there was a kid about 2-3 in the front row freaking out, screaming, refusing to sit, pushing on the lap bar. Mom kept forcing him down but he just wouldn't sit. She looked at the CM and waved her hand and I'm pretty sure said "Its OK, he'll be fine." The CM said "I cannot start the ride unless he is seated." They eventually got off. I couldn't believe she thought that they would just let the ride start while her toddler was standing up!

Thankfully, I never got stuck on Splash for more than the "they're causing trouble in the Brier Patch" speech. As freaky as it is, after the barnstormer incident, it honestly doesn't surprise me someone would think its OK to just get out of a moving ride and leave!

I don't know about the AP question. You would have to contact Shades directly on that one.

The new pool was nice, but small and busy. They have a water volley ball net set up in one section, so that pretty much eliminates that area for chilling. Then there is a basketball hoop in another section which of course riles up the kids. Zero entry is nice.

Thank you so much for your notes. We'll be staying @ SOG from 6/22-7/2 (5 MORE DAYS!!):cheer2: The only thing that I am worried about is getting to the parks by RD, especially since the monorails are starting later in the morning during our stay. I'm hoping that the boats from the Poly to MK are efficient.

The SOG bus leaving only 30 minutes prior to park opening worried me as well (there this past week as well), but it didn't end up being a problem for us (we didn't do the Frozen Dash or wanting to see MK Opening show, so we didn't need to be at the front of the group). All our SOG buses left promptly and once there were even 2 buses leaving for the TTC in the morning. Our MK day (no EMH), we hopped on the ferry since it was docked, and made it through the rush at bag check and scanning bands and were inside the park at 9:07. We did the TSMM RD on our DHS morning and I was a little worried, but it was still only a 10-15 minute by the time we got on. If you wanted to be at the front of the RD group, I would walk on over/golf cart if possible to the Poly, but we never needed to :) Enjoy your time at SOG :)

Thank you KimmyAnne. We would like to catch the MK opening presentation, so I believe I will try walking over to the poly and catching the boat.
