OK, so I've been asking questions here for the past few months, now it's time for a little payback (on my part.)

We just arrived at about 2:30 pm today (Saturday, February 1.) Here's the scoop on our first day here (so far.)

We pulled up to the Boardwalk Inn (being told "Welcome Home" by the guard at the gate who checked our reservation) and unloaded our luggage. While my husband self-parked our car, Molly met me right outside the doors and brought me in to have a comfy seat in the lobby while she finished-up my checkin on her tablet. Took about 5 minutes and then she handed me my welcome package and I went to find my husband - who seemed to have disappeared! It seems that self-parking is quite a distance and it took him a little time. We would never pay the $15 a day that he said valet parking costs. Don't know if he got that detail right, but we actually self-park all the time rather than valet. We walked up to our room, which is 5278. I was immediately happy because I'd asked for a high floor on my self check-in.

All in all, the check-in process was unbelievably quick and simple. Having only stayed at moderate hotels and always during busier times, I can't comment on if the check-in here at the BWI is always this easy. I do know that compared to what I'm used to, it was a breeze. I said to my husband that this must be how the other half lives!!! One other point: I made a point of telling Molly that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on this trip. She didn't seem to know that, even though I had called before to make a note of it on our reservation. She, of course, got us the lovely Anniversary Pins.

I'm super thrilled with the room. I seems like we'll have a beautiful view of the the fireworks from our balcony (I won't know for sure for another 90 minutes or so.) But I can tell that we can see the Eiffel Tower and Spaceship Earth very clearly. It's great. (Note: Our Magic Bands worked beautifully opening our room door.)

We got our luggage delivered and enjoyed one quick little vacation cocktail in our room before heading out to the Boardwalk. We walked straight over to Epcot because I had booked our 3 FP+'s there for our first evening.(Note: Our Magic Bands worked beautifully getting in to the park.)

We hit San Angel in Mexico for a late lunch. We've only eaten dinner there in the past, and I felt like the lunch menu was so much more limited. We shared a shrimp cocktail, and each got a frozen margarita and a strip steak entree (we got 2 different entrees - but they were both strip steak.) Honestly, this wasn't our favorite meal in Mexico - usually we enjoy it much more. And of course, it wasn't cheap. With the tip it was almost $90 and that was the lunch menu. But it's OK - we're on vacation, right? (Note: Our waiter didn't really know how to use our Magic Bands to charge our meal to the room. He tried both mine and my husband 3 or 4 times, even using another waitress's little machine, each time saying it didn't work. Then the other waitress did it herself, said something to him him Spanish, and it seems it was working all along. I guess I was just a little surprised that he didn't seem to know how to do it. Aren't lots of people using the bands to charge things? I doubt that my husband and I were the first guests he had encountered. He seemed to just want to give up and have us pay some other way, which we would have done. The waitress sort of decided to help on her own. This wasn't a big deal, but I think that CMs probably need a little more training with the Magic Bands. Note: I didn't really have any major opinion on this waiter, but my husband wasn't crazy about him for some reason. Just didn't seem that "in to" his job.)

So we headed over to Test Track for our first FP+ (4:25-5:25 pm). Scanned our bands and walked in at around 5:00 pm. The standby line was about 90 minutes I think. Once inside we waited a few minutes before getting in to design our vehicle. The ride was a blast!!

Then we headed over to Mission Space to use our second FP+ (5:30-6:30 pm). We got there at around 5:20 pm so we hung around and killed 10 minutes. FYI: When we scanned and entered, the CM there told us you can always enter your FP+ 5 minutes before the time. Good piece of info to have. The standby line here was about 30 minutes. Again, once inside we waited a few minutes before entering our "ship."

Our third FP+ was for Spaceship Earth for 7:05-8:05 pm. Since it was barely 6:00 pm at this point, we walked over to check it out. There was a standby line of 10 minutes, and we saw that the FP+ people were really just entering the line right where we would enter. So, we just rode at that time. Spaceship Earth is a sentimental favorite of mine, so I enjoyed it. The wait wasn't even 10 minutes.

After Spaceship Earth we walked back to the Boardwalk area, checked out Luna Pool, and headed up to our room to chill. My poor hubby had done the bulk of the driving down from NJ, so he was definitely feeling a little beat. He's napping as I type.

Hopefully I'm going to discover that I'm correct about being able to see the Epcot fireworks from our balcony. I'll know a little later in the evening. I'm also going to try to post some pix I took when we arrived.

My plan for tomorrow is to let my husband sleep in a little, then maybe head over to Hollywood Studios. It's a 2 on the crowd calendar, so I figure how bad can that be? Plus we'll have plenty of time later in the week and some FP+'s for the Studios anyway. MK has an evening extra hour, and we have our 3 FP+ for tomorrow evening there. It's a 4, which is as low as it gets all week at the MK.

So far it's kinda fun to not have to worry about "what do the kids want to do" and tour in a more relaxed way - just the two of us. Although, full disclosure: we've sent multiple messages and photos to both of our kids already from the hotel and Epcot!!

So, if anyone has any questions that I can possibley answer while I'm here, please let me know.

Our arrival:

We have Room:

I'm pretty excited about our view:

I did a little "decorating" of the Mickey Head we found on one of our beds:

Our appetizer in Mexico:

Yeah, maybe that's a Margarita next to the food . . .

Anyone want me to take a picture of anything specific? I'll just be with my iPhone, but what the heck.

Ooops - I forgot something in my first day narrative. When we got to Epcot this afternoon, we stopped in Canada to watch the 360 movie. I don't think we've ever done that on our 7 previous trips. It was cute.

Just didn't want to leave that out . . .

HI! I'm excited to follow you along this week! My MIL would LOVE your view, she loves anything "French!" It looks a little overcast, but overcast at Disney is better than overcast anywhere else!!! :yay:

Happy Anniversary! We spent our tenth at Disney! Will you be doing a full live report? I love the Canada movie!

Since we arrived this afternoon it has definitely been overcast. While we were at Epcot it rained a little. I think we had a guardian angel watching us today. More than once it was not raining when we entered a building/attraction, but when we exited, it was obvious that it had rained. We missed it totally. It was very warm when we arrived, but this evening is absolutely lovely.

I have to say: the view of the Eiffel Tower could not be more appropriate for this visit for us. Our son is currently spending the year in France and he's sent us plenty of photos of the real Eiffel Tower. Needless to say, this was one of the first pictures we sent him!!!!

I am so excited to be here and I'm more than happy to type away on my computer during down time in the room. My husband is still out like a light.

Thanks for the anniversary wishes!

I'm thinking that I like doing a little recap like this in the evening. Would that we like a full live report? Sounds good to me.

I"m so happy for you!!! We had our 25th anniversary vacation there in November and it was so nice to just be the two of us. We did spend a little time with a friend and her husband, but the time alone was nice too.

I leave in the morning to come down for 4 nights. I just finished packing and was wondering if I could have left some things out. LOL

I won't have my computer with me so I'll have to try reading and catch up when I'm back.

Have a blast!

Happy anniversary - and thanks for the report! Sounds like a perfectly lovely day. Enjoy your trip!

I know it doesn't compare to actually watching Illuminations at Epcot (which I'm sure we'll do more than once this week!) but I am just thrilled with this view:

And my silly iPhone pictures absolutely do not do it justice.

OK, so having been here only 7 hours so far, I'm going to have to say the vacation is going pretty well . . .

Thanks for the anniversary wishes!

Yes! Always fun to hear about trips as they happen! Great view of the fireworks!

Following along, too!

This is just what I needed...someone that is there RIGHT NOW that I can live vicariously through!:goodvibes

Susie...your husband is probably right. We LOVE the San Angel Inn(you can't beat that ATMOSPHERE) but our experience has been the female servers are absolutely sensational and the male servers...meh. Not stereotyping...just giving our anecdotal experiences.

One question: Does the Boardwalk seem very crowded? Do you see a lot of other gusts or does the hotel seem deserted? How about the general crowds at Epcot?

Happy Anniversary - Enjoy your vaca at WDW !

Sounds like a very busy first day.
Love the fireworks pics.
You have a great view !

When we checked in, there were a good amount of people hanging around the BWI lobby. My good personal friend Molly (ok - she's not my good personal friend, but the CM that checked me in) had to walk to very end of the lobby (by the fireplace) to find a nice comfy chair for me to sit in. (Did I mention that I'm not used to such pleasant personal service when I check-in at WDW?) But there was no one standing in a line anywhere in the lobby. Whenever we've checked in (usually at the CBR) we've been in very long lines.

In general the hotel itself seems very uncrowded. And during our 2 short walks last night (we walked one way around the Boardwalk to go to Epcot, and came back from the other side on our return) there were definitely not crowds outside on the Boardwalk itself either.

As far as Epcot, it did not seem crowded. Other than what I mentioned I personally saw as far as standby lines on the few attractions we enjoyed, the biggest line I saw was for a popcorn cart. There were probably about a dozen people in line there. (I guess I'm just not that much of a popcorn fan - that's something I would never wait on line for, especially at WDW!)

I also have to say we did see many, many groups of cheerleaders at Epcot last night. None of them were large groups - usually just 6 or 7 girls wearing matching shirts, very often bursting into group clapping!! But we did see lots of these groups over the course of the evening. If I weren't aware of the cheer competition going on here, I might not have even noticed. That, and being the mother of a one-time h.s. cheerleader makes me nostalgic about seeing them.

So, at this point, as my husband is lying next to me in bed asking if I'm "writing a book," I'm going to hit the shower and think about our plans for the day.

If anyone wants to know anything specific that I can help them with, here's what I'm thinking:

I'm being sweet wifey here and I'm going to definitely let my guy sleep in as long as he wants. Well, maybe I'll start making a little bit of "noise" to encourage him to get up eventually . . .

Head over to Hollywood Studios this morning - again, it's a 2 on the crowd charts, so I'm not terribly concerned with lines today. I just want to walk around and if we can do any attractions without waiting long, we will. Otherwise I plan on hitting this park later in the week, once at RD, and once in the afternoon with FP+.

Play it by ear during most of the day.

I have 3 FP+ for MK this evening, and tonight is an "Extra Magic" night there so it's open very late.

One more note: My husband (who was 1/2 asleep and chatting with me - now he's snooring again) commented on the somewhat obnoxious noise he was hearing (about 7:30 a.m.) Sounds like an engine of some sort. I told him that I'd read here on DIS that there are rooms that are pretty loud with this sort of noise (trucks I guess?) I don't think it's bad, and it probably would not have woken him up, but he thinks it's ridiculous that hotel rooms would be noisy this early in the morning. He commented that it's not that bad where we are in this room, but can you imagine if your room was right there?

Off to shower and then go get some coffee. I'll be back to check if I can help anyone with anything . . .

This is the first TR I've followed LIVE! :yay: Since you wanted Epcot view over BW view, when did you request it? (besides requesting higher floor at online check-in)

Oh my gosh...those two things just gave me my first big laughs of the day!:lmao:
