Just back from Disneyland from 12/9 - 12/13. We arrived at LAX at 10:15 p.m. on Thursday and went out to the island under green sign....waited. Last bus for Disneyland Resort Express is 10:30 pm.

Waited.

Waited.

At 10:40ish, called the number on their brochure. We were at Terminal 7. The bus starts the route at Terminal 1. Operator said, "should be there any time". She was right. Bus arrived at 10:50 p.m. No problem.

Friday night, next day. Son arrives from Portland at 10:00 p.m. I tell him be out on island under green sign, airport guy directs him out there. He is texting me (I am at BW Park Place Inn, exhausted from Day 1 at Disneyland), from 10:20 p.m. forward.

At 10:55 p.m., from the island, he reports that Disneyland Express has slowed, looked him in the eye and kept going, despite the fact that he was stepping into the curbside and waving (just in case) (he uses slightly profane language in his text).

Since his visit was a surprise to the rest of the family I get out and go outside, by that time it is 11 p.m. Call Disneyland Resort Exp -- closed. They provide an emergency number for dispatcher. I call it.

Dispatcher didn't give a hoot. I explain to him that my son (age 30) was waiting, looked at, and the driver LEFT HIM. That the rest of the shuttle offices appeared to be closed. Oh no. His driver waited there five minutes for three folks to walk over from Terminal 1. (my son was at terminal 7 as well). Did not ask for my name, or number.

Son was able to connect with Primetime some 30 minutes later and arrived at hotel at 12:45 am.

My fault, I forgot to call office on Saturday or Sunday or Monday. But we had made arrangements for Disneyland Resort on Sunday. I asked to speak to manager at the Disneyland hotel stop. I explain this all to him and ask why his driver would just leave someone who was obviously flagging down the bus. No explanation. He also did not take down my name or number.

so, have been busy this week but am not done with this issue.

My son was wearing Univ. of Oregon shirt, cap, etc, (what can I say? he is a fan). He is also 30, male and half-Japanese, 6'1.

bus stopped for me (old, chubby, white) and daughter (also half-japanese, 6'1"), and grandson (about 46" tall and blonde). We were not wearing Univ. of Oregon stuff.

Male?
Tall male? :guilty:
Japanese male? :sad2:
Male who loves Univ. of Oregon? pirate:
Japanese male who is a football fanatic? :cheer2:

(there were three other folks on the bus and it was a female driver...yes, the bus slowed enough for him to count heads. Dispatcher confirmed three passengers).

point being. If you are arriving late, be careful. Bus driver who doesn't like your looks will pass you by.

hmmmmmm

aww that is really sad. wow and the way you describe being snubbed by the driver seems like yeah maybe they did have a problem with your kid? but still that is not right.

what have have you done in the meantime about this situation?

Bummer!

I would definitely say that the driver on the way to GCH on 10/30 was NOT friendly. I said "Hi!" to him three times (as we were right next to each other) and he didn't even acknowledge the fact that I was alive. He was super talkative when he got on the bus though. Weird.

My family is the "opposite" of yours. I am Japanese. My husband is 6', white as can be with blue eyes. The boys are half Japanese. But they were not by themselves and do not have any Univ. of Oregon gear. Maybe they stopped for my husband (who is young, chubby and white)? Sorry, just trying to insert some humor into a terrible situation.

It really sucks that this happened. Now I'll have to think twice about using them when we go back in May.

I'm having a hard time buying this. Why would the driver care what he was wearing? Anything I've ever been upset about I handle right away and go to the top. I do not "forget to call".

OP, I'm sorry there were issues for your son getting to DLR. That stinks. However, I'm not exactly sure what your saying. Are you saying the driver didn't stop because your son looks Asian? That seems hard to believe, especially at 11pm. I'm sorry your son got passed, for whatever reason, but I think it's dangerous to conclude racism based on one incident without knowing the individual.

lapdwife, did you have a situation similar to OP with the same company?

No Dreams, I have not. And I agree with you 100% on your post. I was saying if I ever have an issue with ANY company, I deal with it immediately, not "forget" to take care of it. Seemed odd. :)

I think labeling the bus driver as racist or even a University of Oregon hater is a bit of a leap.

Yes the bus driver was wrong not to pick up your son but I think it more likely they just didn't want to pick up anymore people since it was late.

Wrong? yes....Racist? doubtful.

Auburn fans! ;) (We are ducks too!)

I would continue talking to Disney, even give guest relations a call or email as well. It wasn't right, but an answer as to why would probably help. I am guessing though that while she should have stopped, she may have been intimidated by his size, youth and sex.

I should add... I'm not saying it was sexism... I have had moments, being female, where I had an odd fearful moment and maybe that is what happened. Its one of those things you wonder about... if you were attacked (and I'm not saying your son would by any means), would the others on the bus help you or stop it or sit there in fear and let it happen. Recently a pregnant woman on a local bus (PDX) was brutally beaten by 5 other teen girls and no one did a thing. It was a full bus.

The company in question is not actually owned or affiliated with Disney. They are operated by Grayline Tours.

Are you guys SURE it was actually the right bus? Right company? The Disneyland Resort Express buses I've been on have tinted windows and are coach buses; can't really see up and into them to know how many people are in them, and even if you could see one side, there could be countless others on the other side.

11pm, wearing green (right school, yes?), probably with dark hair...did she even see him? I've thought that hubby and I were having an eye-lock moment from afar before, and he didn't even see me...she might not have seen him at all.

Regarding your flight...the time starts from Term 1, and you add 5 minutes for each terminal. So your bus was actually early. We always walk up to T1, just to be on the bus first and to take up waiting time. :)

Complaints to them would probably be best handled by your adult son, going forward... They might take him a bit more seriously, since he was the potential passenger...

As long as disney has an affiliation, they have an interest and do care who they do business with.

query on why I didn't take care of it immediately? I did. I got a person who didn't care.

I then decided to spend three days at disneyland with my two adult children and 3 year grandchild.

I tried to speak with a manager type on Monday when we were at the transfer. He also didn't care. That makes twice that no one cared enough to take my name and number to have manager follow up. They took the info about the driver, no problem.....

I arrived home due to flight delays at approx. 3 a.m. Tuesday a.m. I worked Tuesday. I am down three employees at work and I had just arrived back in office after four days off. Oops, slipped my mind during the work day. Everytime I have thought about it, it was after 7 p.m.

I will be calling the business OFFICE, to see if anyone there cares on Monday.

I don't know the issue. He was able to see into the bus because of the lighting and then the dispatcher confirmed three passengers.

I was asking for opinions.....and wondered if this had happened to anyone else. Do I think it was U of O gear? Nope. I hope not racism. Have my kids ever experienced racism? Yup. Sexism? Female driver - male passenger? Maybe.

I asked him that numerous times.....but he assures me that it was the same kind of bus we got onto on Monday. And I would let him handle this but he was so angry on Friday that it wouldn't have been taken seriously. Then, when we tried to handle it on Monday, not treated seriously.

I am glad he is grown. I only panicked at the thought of a taxi cost to Anaheim.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?
*raises hand*

I didn't mention this before because I thought "okay, stuff can happen."

Exactly the same thing happened to me when I arrived in October, 2 PM Wednesday afternoon. Bright and sunny I might add.

I'm a female, was wearing a very obvious Disney shirt and Tinker Bell baseball cap, hopping up and down and waving like a madwoman at the curb.

The female driver did look at me, but made no attempt to stop. I was gobsmacked. The first three rows of the bus that I could see were definitely empty too.

I didn't raise it with the office because like I said, I thought stuff can happen. I walked over to the Supershuttle station and was on my way within 10 minutes, and it wasn't night time, so it wasn't a big issue for me. I was a bit miffed because I had been waiting for the bus for about half an hour, but it didn't seem like anything major to me at that point.

It was the Disneyland Express for sure, I've taken it before.

honestly, it just doesn't add right.
and i highly doubt its a sexism or racism issue.

I think its more believable that its possible that perhaps he wasnt standing in the right place for the driver to stop? or perhaps the waving wasnt like a full on please stop i need to get on? No offense...

it can be any # of reasons but im like 99% sure its not racism or sexism... Im sure its just a huge misunderstanding.

Well I for my part was exactly in the place where the bus had stopped that just left when I was leaving the terminal. ;)

Last year when we took the Disneyland Express it stopped at every terminal as long as someone was standing there and then took off again when no one moved. Maybe they don't do that anymore when they're already late? :confused3 That was the best guess I had.

Wow...this all has me really nervous. I'll be taking the DL Express this April to VGC and will need a lift bus, which I'll be sure to note in advance. If they leave me and my service dog at the curb ( some drivers really don't like to deal with w/c's or SD's) then I have no idea how I'll get to the resort. Note to self- write down alternative and emergency phone contact numbers. To the OP- I can't imagine being left behind that late at night! I'm also not sure there was racism involved but I've been "ignored" before like that and it's very hurtful...then of course you get angry. I'd also pursue the issue til you get a satisfactory resolution. Someone should at least CARE enough to follow up!---Kathy

I wonder if it has to do with number of people (e.g. solo travelers vs. couple or group) waiting? Haven't used them, so just guessing at it. Although, whatever the case may be, it's still poor customer service. How awful that they choose to do that in the first place and then not be able to handle the complaints.

I would suggest calling before hand (maybe a day or so) and talk to a supervisor. Explain your situation. Provide your arrival time and confirm that the driver will stop at your terminal.
I would suggest that you get his direct line "just in case".
