Just a silly little TR - Run Away!!

excellent chapter,,, just a comment or two if I may.

Welll.... okay. But just a couple.

No, all charged up and nobody Bringing you where you want to go.

Nobody BRINGS me anywhere. I go where I want, when I want. I'm like the wind. (picture col. Flag at this point followed by the sound of crashing glass.)

Did you have to stick two fingers in a flipper for the gate to open up?

No gate!

I'm afraid of a Falling Behind a lot!

Nebo. Don't be afraid. It won't happen to you again.

Met Ryan's not good enough now?

Neither Met nor Mel.

Um, no. Now that you mention it,, I don't know what Im reading this crap for anyway, anyway.

That makes two of us.

Ah,,, now you're learning,,, sniff,,, they grow up so fast! You too can alienate as many people as I have over the years,,, maybe even more with your caustic personality!,,, But don't get your hopes up.

Yup. I owe all my cynicism to you.

Patience…and Prudence.
Dear Prudence.

What. You want me to come out to play now?

Yes,, perfectly pointless, Potpourri projects plentiful possibilities more pleasingly.

Ptoooie!

Precisely.

I am still amazed you are getting the girls up at these hours,,,,and,,,,even more so,,,, that RUBY is LETTING you all wake her up early when she has to go to work!

Not a problem with Ruby. She gets up that early to get ready for work anyway, so we weren't really disturbing her... much.

Can you just imagine if "She Who Must Not Be,,,,," I shudder to think about it!
LOOK!>

(shudder)

Ooooh... I just felt an icy chill go down my spine.

Hang on a sec' while I turn around and turn off the air conditioner.

You know,,,, this kind of stuff isn't exactly endearing yourself to the male readers, either.

And yet, you're still here. Hmmm...

Uh oh,,, is this like the pre-show to Honey I shrunk the Checkbook?

I mean,, Audience?

I've yet to see Honey I shrunk...

"I was in the pool!!! I was in the pool!!!"

We walk up to the cashier’s booth and,… there’s no one there either.
So where are you going to get cashews now?

Don't need cashews (gesundheit) I've got pecans.

Ok, now you've got me wondering,,,, what does an 'unofficial uniform" look like? I am uniformally uniformed uninformed.
Is it tired out today or is it just me?

Just you. And no shiny shoes or boots and no hat.

Wait,,, wait,,, allow me,,,,, "To boldly go where no man has gone before!,,, "Starfish Trek"

:lmao:

There’s a trolley that can take you down for $1 (I think), we didn’t use it… I’m not sure if it was even running yet.

Crap,, you're going to make me hurt myself yet..
"So, the Jolly, Maui, Trolley, was Prolley a folley, by golly,,, so solley. "

That was really good. You must've hurt yourself big time on that one.

( Six years of building up my reputation here on the boards,,,, gone,,, just like that!)

Don't worry. Your reputation was already long gone.

You're not going to tell us how much you paid for that little disposable camera are you,,,, no,,, I would'nt either.

I honestly don't remember. It wasn't too bad though. At least I remember I didn't flinch too much. $15-$20 maybe?

One of the snorkels was broken and we had to exchange it, but other than that, everything looks good. Let’s go snorkelling!
Um,,, isn't that all reletive to WHEN you find out the snorkel's broken?

Good point!

It seems to me that you've had it easy so far,,, great kids. But I raised boys,,, and from what I understand,,,, as tough as that was,,, I hear it 's easier than raising girls.

That's what everybody tells me... so far neither one has started dating yet.

There was a SNL skit with Steven Seagal (who was arguably the worst SNL host ever) where a boy comes to pick up his daughter and every time she was out of the room he'd say something like:"See this tattoo? You get that for being in the elite killing squad in the military." "I once killed a man with my bare hands." etc...

I think I'm going to try and be like that.

Well,, for what it's worth,,, that sounds pretty much like I would have handled it.

Thanks.

That's called the "Yes,,, but,,, " stage.

Oh, man. You have NO idea how much she's into that stage... We're pretty sure she's going to be a lawyer when she grows up... and I pity the poor sod who has to go up against her. :sad2:

I came scary close one time myself,,, not as bad as you, I'm sure,,,,but one more unexpected mouthfull and that "Prolly" would have been it for me.

Imagine how empty this world would be without us.

On second thought, let's not give anybody any ideas...

I totally agree with you,,,, and the joke about screaming. I also can't let my foot touch the bottom,,, that's just as bad as seaweed if it's not a nice, sandy bottom.

I went scuba diving once and was in 100' of water when I went to push off from the bottom. My arms sank into ooze up to my shoulders... not fun.

So here I am, in an ocean full of critters whose sole purpose is to do me harm in one form or another… I’m scared of water… I see something big and I don’t know what it is…

the Nautilus?

Well they had to put those somewhere...

Only if it's the Naughtylus.

<groan>

Good one though. I think I'm being out-classed on my own TR!

There is not a person reading this right now that doesn't want to give her a big hug.

I know I did!

it looks like ,,, it's about to turn around and go,,,"You following me?? What's the matter,, the ocean's not big enough for the two of us?"

Believe me, I mentioned it to the girls and they were like, "Dad! Not even close!"

If it wasn't bright blue, it didn't count.

And I think Gil,,, was a Moorish Idol. At least after he wasn't sent on to Hollywood.

That's what I found on the ever infallible internet. Never occurred to me before, though. :confused3

There were two things that I absolutely wanted to do while in Hawaii.
1. Visit Pearl Harbor… and we know how that turned out.

Uh,,, they bombed it?

What? When'd that happen? Why wasn't I informed?

ok,,, that' s about the 9th time you used the H word,,,, you are getting supplemented for this report,,, arent you?

All right. I admit it. The NFL is supporting this TR.

8-42!
8-42!
Hike!

Ah,, sometimes justification is so sweet,,, especially when your kids are there to see it for themselves!

::yes::

One of the greatest "eye rolls" I have ever seen came from the actress that played the President's daughter in Air Force One. It came early on ,, before the takeover,,,, but it truly made you wish that Gary Oldman would blow her brains out soon just for the eye roll.

I'll have to watch that one again, just for that.

"Hut one , two three, Hut one, three, four."
"Hut one, two three, Hut one, three, four,

Not 'hut'... hike.

"Ponzi's running out of dough."

The correct tense of the verb would be 'ran'.

And the large, woman named Kay yelled out to you,, what's it to you?

Believe you me I was a little scared that some 300lb woman would come storming out and start yelling at me, "Is that your kid in there??? Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting?!?"

C'mon,, admit it,,, you wondered just how long you would have sat there if you hadn't done something.

Nope. I know just how stubborn that kid can be. I know exactly how long it would've been... The park closes at 7pm.

Ok,,, I'm eating with the kids,,, but Smidgy want's to go with you.

I love a good hotdog or burger as much as the next guy, but I'd decided that I wanted to experience some local flavour. This was just one (remember the shave ice?) of them.

I thought we already established how brilliantly clever you were,,,,

True, but I never tire of hearing it.

Uh oh,,, the dreaded sanskrit menu!

Was there an uninformed man in uniform there reading off the cuniform menu,,,,,,,

Bonus points... 'cause I'm guessing that not too many other people know what 'sanskrit' or 'cuneiform' is.

OH, OH,, can I borrow her for a hug?

Get in line.

Here's a big surprise,,, I'm not the biggest rum fan either,,, I'll drink it if that's all there is,,,, and I cannot stand,,, GIN.

:lmao:Growing up I wanted people to think I was cool and sophisticated (ha!) so I would order a dry martini. Ever had one? They're horrible. But I didn't want anyone to know what a twit I really was... so I kept ordering them every time we went out.

I do not like tomatos.
I do not like raw fish.

Sam you are.

What was yours? '
Waiting outside the restroom?
Waiting on the beach?
Waiting ouside the clothes store?
Waiting outside the bathroom?

I could tell you my favorite memory... but it would sound too sappy. Even I have my limits.

Should I know the difference between Hawaiian dacncing and Polynesian?

Yes. Every well educated person would know that.

Oh. Sorry.

Ok,, well thank you very much,,, I can't believe how much stuff you are doing,,,, I keep waiting for Ruby to get her own lines.

She's the strong silent type... also she wasn't around much. :confused3

Looking back, I can't believe how much stuff we did either.

loved the chapter! you guys did so muchfun stuff! poor nebo, cause now I want to go to Hawaii!!

kudos to you for the way you "deal with" your kids. and knowing their personalities. :thumbsup2

Oh, boy. I've got all these shout outs out of shout-out order.

Please, please, please, if I missed somebody, just say, "Hey! Brainless! You forgot about me!

Great update as usual.

Jill in CO

Thanks Jill! :goodvibes

Great update Ponzi! You are all really taking advantage of all the outstanding stuff Hawaii has to offer. Most families do maybe one of those things in a week and you have already done a months worth of activities. I bet you needed a vacation when you got home!!

Well we were a little tired... :rolleyes1 But from this point on, things slow down quite a bit.

Whoops! There go all my readers.

Aulani! Aulani's coming up!

Ha! Got 'em back for one more chapter.

Get up stupid early again.

Who are you calling stupid?

Well... me actually. But if you want to share the title, you just let me know and I'll pencil you in. 'kay?

I think I’ll leave it in just to stir up trouble.

That's very neboish of you.

I learned from the best... or worst.

I just used ‘plethora’ in a sentence.

Congrats.

oooh... Do I detect a note of snarkiness???

It takes you longer to get in a suit than it does a girl??

Nah. Even with me taking an extra decade... I still beat 'em.

Even if it’s a speedo? Even if it’s an old out-of-shape dude in a speedo?

Is this payback for Nebo?

::yes::

What a pain that you have to go old school and have prints made and then scan all the photos.

And then photoshop the heck out of them 'cause the prints were basically unviewable.

So cool! I bet you were glad you didn't panic and swim away.

It was really out of character for me. Once when I was a teen, I was snorkelling off a beach at a cabin my family was staying at. I felt something tap my shoulder and I turned around to come face to face with a a six foot...

...log.

Scared the crap out of me. I didn't go in the water for the rest of the week.

I ran my hand down it’s shell and touched a flipper.

Now you're even with the girls, right?

Yay! Somebody remembered! Bonus points for Laura!

I receive the requisite eye roll in return.

I'm not looking forward to the day my daughter starts doing that.

It's inevitable... trust me.

I sense foreshadowing.

The force is strong with this one.

Great chapter Ponzi!

Thanks Laura! :)

Hey, if I wanted to abused like that I'd have conversation with my kids.

Oh, boy. Did you ever come to the wrong TR.

I recognize the 12-year-old female mood. <sigh> I raised 2 girls and have a 13-year-old granddaughter. You see, girls go into a downhill slide from 10 to 13, bottom out at 13, and slowly claw their way out of it from 14 to 18. It's a mine field for you... anything you say or do during those years will be varying degrees of wrong.

Thanks for the heads up. Now that I think of it, that's kinda what's going on.

You're a good dad.

Nah. I just stumble around and every now and then don't make a complete a$$ out of myself.

I love that you got to swim with Crush; too bad your girls didn't get to see him, too.

It was something I really wanted to share with them... but...

The show after the Luau sounds fun, but it would be a huge disappointment that you don't get to eat the pig that was cooking.

I was so not impressed.

Great chapter.

Thanks!

Wait,,, wait,,, allow me,,,,, "To boldly go where no man has gone before!,,, "Starfish Trek"

Now, that's funny! Wish I had thought of it.

No! Don't encourage him!!!

loved the chapter! you guys did so muchfun stuff!

Thanks Smidgy. We did do the odd little thing here or there, didn't we? ;)

poor nebo, cause now I want to go to Hawaii!!

Go. As you may have noticed, there's stuff to do. He won't be bored. Take a cruise there if the plane's too much.

kudos to you for the way you "deal with" your kids. and knowing their personalities.

Thanks for saying that Diane. :)

Did you miss my post?:confused3 It's right before your last update....we really need to discuss you putting that gorgeous daughter of yours into a cage so sharks can come to her:scared1:

Pulling a Smidgy here....

so DD who is now 22 tells me that EVERY one of her boyfriends was always afraid of me. I have to tell you that I NEVER did anything (nothing like above or baseball bats by the door etc.) to give them cause to be afraid and yet they were more afraid of me and what I would do if they were mean to DD. Makes me wonder what the %@#*#$*#$ she told them when I wasn't around LOL.

:headache: D'oh! I didn't... and I did. I read your post... but missed it when I was multi quoting responses, sorry about that. I'll rectify that little ommision toute suite.

I'm still not completely over the shark update...but I'm going to try and comment. I hate sharks, I fear them more than anything (seeing Jaws in grade 5 completely ruined me for any ocean vacations ever) and I won't even put a toe in an ocean.

Ok, I think you get the point. You let those beautiful girls get in a kayak and go into shark infested waters:eek: Were they crying, were they terrified, do they need therapy....oh wait, that's me:rolleyes1

I hear you. I could never just swim in an ocean. Gotta see where I'm going... and there better be other people around to spread out the odds a little on getting eaten.
I once went to Daytona beach with a friend. It was windy and nobody else was in the water. He went in. I magnanimously offered to hold the money onshore.

I'm a real trouper, aren't I?

Elle was definitely concerened about sharks... but she was pretty good.

BTW I'll be reading your chapter tomorrow

Could you ask her so I can do whatever it is that terrified her boyfriends?

Great update Ponzi!!! I loved that you got to swim with a turtle! I want to do that!

Hope you get to see the volcano.

Before I forget, here is my sweet contribution - this recipe is from DS - he made it for us the other night - easy and looks really fancy!

Mock Ice Cream Cake

2 boxes of ice cream sandwiches - (the half and half ones are the best)
- 24 sandwiches in all

1 Large coolwhip (the biggest size)
2 Heath Bars - frozen and broken in small pieces
Chocolate syrup to drizzle

Lay 12 of the ice cream sandwiches on a platter, forming a rectangle layer
cover with a Layer of Cool Whip
Lay 12 more in the same pattern as the first 12
Cover with Cool Whip, "frosting" the sides and top

Drizzle with Chocolate Syrup
Sprinkle the Heath pieces over the entire top

After you dazzle your guests with your fabulous culinary skill, cut into squares and enjoy!

great update Ponz! I'm sorry (for us too) that you forgot your camera, I would have loved to see them! I'm glad that you swam toward the turtle, what a cool experience. Do you feel any better about the water after the trip?

For the record, we don't require the potions et al, they're just nice to have. ;)

I am looking forward to hearing about Aluani, but I don't know when -if ever- I'll get to Hawaii, so I'm enjoying just hearing about the trip.

Hi Magic,,, you know,,, I see your signature,,, and the word "Wahines",,,, and it makes me think of my boating days on the Chain of Lakes, here in Illinois,,,back when we had money,,,:happytv:,,, we kept our little cabin cruiser at a Polynesian semi-themed resort,,,,, and in the bar area,,, the restrooms were names,,, Wahines and Kane's I believe.

It was so much fun to bring newby's up and watch them try to figure out if theywere Wahine's or Kane's!

I'll bet it was really funny if someone was already "doing the dance" and had to stop and figure it out! :rotfl2:

Who are you calling stupid?

Oh yeah. That's why we're reading this.

That's very neboish of you.

Congrats.

It takes you longer to get in a suit than it does a girl??

Is this payback for Nebo?

My favorites!

Phew.

That's where I'd put the ocean.

That's too bad. I feel for you, really.

What a pain that you have to go old school and have prints made and then scan all the photos.

Sounds like sensible parenting to me.

So cool! I bet you were glad you didn't panic and swim away.

I just said it was cool Ponzi.

Now you're even with the girls, right?

I'd say dolphin, but that's not a fish, is it?

It's better that you don't know.

I'm not looking forward to the day my daughter starts doing that.

I sense foreshadowing.

She needs to retract that eye roll.

Agreed!

Sounds exhausting!

Interesting.

Aw. That's so sweet!

:cheer2:

I guess it was worth it then.

Great chapter Ponzi!

Hey! We're not all rude!

Oops - sorry. Didn't mean to offend.

Great update Ponzi!!! I loved that you got to swim with a turtle! I want to do that!

Hope you get to see the volcano.

Thanks Kitty-Kat. I pretty much started hyperventilating when I figured out what I was looking at.

"A turtle! A turtle! Oh, boy ohboyohboyohboy!"

As for the volcano.. I've already shown it to you. Here's the shot from the beach I posted. Diamond Head is the mountain in the distance.

Before I forget, here is my sweet contribution - this recipe is from DS - he made it for us the other night - easy and looks really fancy!

Thanks for that Tammie. Believe it or not, I've actually made that recipe before... minus the heath bars. And you're right, it's good and easy. :)

great update Ponz! I'm sorry (for us too) that you forgot your camera, I would have loved to see them!

I'm still whining about it at home. Although, that makes for a great excuse. "Honey, I know we can' t afford it, but we'll have to go back so I can take those pictures I missed."

Think Ruby'll go for it?

I'm glad that you swam toward the turtle, what a cool experience. Do you feel any better about the water after the trip?

Unfortunately... no. I'm pretty good in shallow water with a mask (or in deep water in a cage), but... Here's a little story:

The first time we were in Hawaii, we went on a snorkel cruise. The ship we were on tied up over a shallow protected reef. Ruby and I swam for an hour or so. We stopped for lunch, then I asked Ruby if she wanted to do more. She'd had enough, but told me to go ahead. I went back in and was enjoying myself. I started to swim along the length of the ship. Suddenly, the bottom dropped off just ahead of me. I couldn't see the bottom... all I could see was blackness.

Totally unnerved me. I quickly got out of the water and I was done for the trip.

For the record, we don't require the potions et al, they're just nice to have. ;)

One of my fave authors once said (the character spoke a pidgin english) "Are no ugly women. Some more beautiful than others."

And that's pretty much the way I feel, too.

I am looking forward to hearing about Aluani, but I don't know when -if ever- I'll get to Hawaii, so I'm enjoying just hearing about the trip.

Glad you're enjoying it. Aulani comes up next.

Oops - sorry. Didn't mean to offend.

Hmmm... not sure why you think you offended anyone. Besides, that's my job! :rotfl:

I just got caught up! We have been in Disney the past week and a half and this was great to come back to! I'm like Smidgy, I'm bugging my husband to go to Hawaii now!!
LOVED the pictures too, they're all great!!!

Welcome back! Did you have a good trip? Are you feeling better now?

I think everyone should go to Hawaii if time and money permit.

Thanks for the nice words about the pics. Got a bunch of Aulani coming up... :)

Howdy Pkondz and everyone else! Long time, no talk or write I should say. The great news is that now your fears that I fell in Seven Seas Lagoon can be laid to rest. I know, quite the load off! ;)

We had a great trip that began with the most amazing pixie dust I have ever experienced. At check-in we were upgraded to club level at the WL, apparently because my birthday was noted on the reservation! I was completely taken aback! It was a great surprise!

So I did find myself thinking of you and Nebo, as well as other posters, quite frequently. There are a few instances that I will tell you about specifically that made me think particularly of one of the two of you depending on what happened or what was said.

The delay from my touching base and from popping in to the TR in the World was tied unfortunately to two, yes I said two, illnesses for the Buzz family. For the first time in my trips to Disney, I got sick, not from Disney mind you, but from my precious contagion carrying son. DS had a cold before we left and within two days in the World, DD and I were "lucky" enough to catch it. If it were just a cold, no big deal, but for me, with sinuses that get inflamed with the mere hint of a cold, it made for a few rough days.

To add insult to injury, within a day upon our return DS and I had the "pleasure" of experiencing a delightful stomach virus. Yep, this thing was worse than anything Linda Blair ever thought of conjuring. And you know how these things work, right? The whole family had to experience the delight, person by person.

So yay, I'm back! I need to check in with Nebo as well, tell you both the funny things that made me think of you, and do a heck of a lot of catching up!

I've missed you guys!! ;)

Marita, I must apologize for not touching base during the trip. I truly wanted to meet you, but I felt terrible that Wednesday and Thursday. I even slept in (the horror!) on Thursday trying to beat the evil cold virus. Hopefully, this was a freak blip in my streak, and not some new Neboesque thing like injuries are for him.

I am hopeful that we will be able to say hello next trip.....which will be here before you know it! ;)

Whew! I am caught up, Hallelujah! ;)

Pkondz, I have to agree with you on the shave ice versus sno-cone, slurpee, etc debate. I haven't been to Hawaii, so I haven't experienced the upper echelon of shaved ice, but I have had really good shaved ice before and it's the smoothness of the ice, it literally melts instantly. The granular substance of a sno-cone/slurpee makes for a completely different taste experience.

I love all of the activities you and the girls are doing in Hawaii! Your TR is a real treat Pkondz, of the shaved ice variety! ;)

And did I miss Marita's story?

well i thought the luau was the best part and "the breath of life, ha" was amazing! I thought the pig was good to:goodvibes
