I probably would've just chalked it up to the CM having a bad day and moved on. But I would've been sorely tempted to work "AP" back into the phone call about 10 more times, too.

I especially love the acronyms where one of the letters is the first letter of another acronym...We discuss things with the acronyms all the time. Also I'm an engineer working for a military project so its even worse. There are many designations that are known by acronyms sometimes even by just numbers - for example a 29 (two nine, not twenty nine when spoken)
Or everybody's favorite, the whips and chains ride...The only acronym that truly bugs me is SM. Are you talking about Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Spider-Man, or what?![]()

Epcot is not an acronym any more. It was turned into an "imaginary word" by Disney and the "all caps" were dropped some time ago. Due mostly to the fact that it really never was going to be an experimental prototype community of tomorrow. The park is referred to as Epcot, not EPCOT. So I imagine the CM calls it "Epcot".

The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network calls itself ESPN, and identifies its affiliated businesses with the same letters. One of those businesses operates by agreement on Walt Disney World property. That venue is named, called, known as, however you wish to phrase it as ESPN Club - not Entertainment and Sports Programming Network Club. Therefore, Disney Cast Members call it by its name: ESPN Club.on ABC and ESPN doesn't matter... from what I read CM said disney doesn't use acronyms, and they use ABC and ESPN, which are acronyms.
and the boardwalk thing... was just creating a fictional script of what someone might say on the phone. If there's one restaurant in town called Smitty's and it's on Elm street, someone might say "How long would it take to get from Smitty's on Elm to the Medical Center" (b/c if you've ever had smitty's burritos). but kudos for dissecting my exaggeration (?) ploy??![]()

Disney named a counter service restaurant ABC Commissary. They didn't name it American Broadcasting Company Commissary then instruct or allow Cast Members to call the venue ABC Commissary.
The theme park with Tower of Terror, Toy Story Midway Mania, The Great Movie Ride, etc., is currently called Disney's Hollywood Studios. We call it HS or DHS or whatever. Cast Members use full words. When the park was named MGM, they called it MGM. Do you see the difference between a company assigning a name to a business, and consumers choosing their own acronyms?
I hate acronyms and would never dream of using them outside of a message board. I find them obnoxious. I see through your story, that I am not alone....

I'm sure if the Cast Member who caused this thread ever becomes aware of its existence, she will truly regret not interjecting the apparently necessary term "guest-created" just ahead of the word acronym.
eta: ad lib is the shortened version of the Latin ad libitum. Capitalizing each part of the phrase and running the words together doesn't make the phrase an acronym.
Really? She chastised you? Perhaps she was merely stating the truth. Most CMs do not frequent message boards, therefore they are not familiar with acronyms (especially those used on this site). It seems to me she was attempting to clarify, not chastise.
Her statement was true. Disney does not use acronyms. I believe she was just attempting to be specific with you.![]()
Just curious as to how old that CM was
Not that it really makes a difference, but my wife and I are in our late 40's and we use acronyms all the time in conversation - when we text......![]()
And maybe she was hoping you would get the word out that we should use the full words when we call in, just so there is no confusion.
I would never call and say "Hi there ! My DH, DD, and DS are planning a trip to WDW this fall. We all need APs and need help making our ADRs. Plus we want to use the ME to get to AKL where we are staying. Could you help us plan our trippie?" Given how many acronyms we use on the Dis, I'm sure it is more than a little confusing when people call in and shorten everything down.
A CM has no business chastising a customer, liking or disliking ancronyms is not even the point!
I can tell you first hand tho, I've spoken to two different CM in guest relations who have told me they don't like DIS because of misinformation??? They just don't get how much business this board brings Disney!
I wouldn't have put up with that I would have asked for a manager!!
