I got the supply list for next year..
No issues because I shop every sale throughout the summer..and buy more than enough to get me through 2 years (this is my stock up year)with 5 kids..
but they need 10 GLUE STICKS for 1st grade!
My gosh, I sure hope I get a lot of nice crafts this year!!!
I know it's hands on work and I love that...but 10 sticks!
I better start buying now! If he is like his mom... he'll leave the cap off and the darn stick dries up!

We need 10 glue sticks for 2nd grade- I thought that was a little much myself. But as you said, perhaps it's because they are like their moms and leave the caps off..... My big complaint is the 6 wide ruled notebooks and then they proceed to ask for specific colors!! I am going to have to start buying now so I can be sure and get the right colors. Last year it was all I could do to find wide ruled notebooks- they were very picked over and we were lucky to find wide ruled, much less a specific color. Teaches me to be last minute.

We don't have specific colors or brands that we need with the exception of GermX...
I hit the sales for wide-rule spirals when they are 10cents each... If you want me to grab several for you let me know.. between my mom and I we buy about 4.00 each! I use them throughout the year for things...and I keep one in the van for notes! (Than of course the kids get a hold of it..and I need a new one!)
I found a 18 pack of glue sticks at Staples website for 8.00.. guess where I am going on Sunday? LOL

We don't get shopping lists at all ahead of time. My DS got most of what he needed through the school. I guess we're lucky, but somehow I think I'm paying for it all anyway...

HEHE Our school buys everything for us. They do a wish tree at xmas time when supplies start to run low though. They put leaves on with things they need and a parent will pick a leaf and then but the stuff. That way they don't get 5000 tissue boxes and no glue sticks.

I can see the 10 glue sticks, they don't go very far anymore, especially with a bunch of 6 year olds that must glue every square inch of what ever it is they are gluing.

I guess I shouldn't complain....its for my kid!

Yes, book rental... any where from 58.00 kindergarten.....to at least 300.00 for High School (could be more if they are taking AP-College courses!)... UGH!!!
Last year alone... we paid 425.00 in book rental....
And some of the books looked like they were from when I was in school..so the book has been paid for 100 times over!

BOOK RENTAL? That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. The sad part is, your taxes probably paid for them in the first place.

PN, that book rental thing is just stupid (not even silly - the word I tell my kids is acceptable - but STUPID).

We didn't get supply lists this year, first year ever we didn't get them for the next year. Of course, with DD's dumb school, I am surprised they don't lose kids, let alone get us a supply list.

The one year I got really angry was kindergarten. DD had to have about 20 pencils. I treated her to some pretty ones ("my baby's going to school, she gets the princess pencils!"). Anyway, she came home from school crying...her teacher took all of the pencils and dumped them in a bin for EVERYONE. I called the teacher...I told her to get Katie's special pencils - some had her name on them - out of the bin. I sent about 50 plain yellow number two pencils to replace them. I told her that I didn't mind at all helping her help those who might not be able to afford a pencil, but that if I bought my child something with her name on them I expected them to stay hers!

That may be what they are doing with the glue sticks, Nancy. You might have to buy 10 so that your kid can give 5 to the kids whose parents never provide anything.


ETA - I don't mean to sound harsh, BTW. I know some parents CAN'T give...and I feel very blessed to be able to help. I get irritated at the parents who WON'T help...big difference.

Thank you so much for the offer!! I am hoping that by starting early I can knock it out, but I will let you know if I can't find a color!! And paying for books is just nuts! Come on down to Texas, you would still have to buy 10 glue sticks and specific colors of notebooks, but you won't pay for the books.

They have been promising us not to pay for books for years now...and I'm still paying.... I really need to start drafting letters to the governor requesting that he abolish that STUPID book rental fee....

I complain about it every year...but in Indiana.. it's like taxes... I have to pay them....
The one good thing.. I can estimate the cost based on the previous year....and add 10.00.... than sometimes we get lucky and the price goes down..but at least figuring high.. I have some extra money to throw in the DISNEY fund!

They usually have glue sticks for .10 each closer to the start of school! I keep a huge stash of them here for rainy days!

WE get our list before school lets out. DD just found her's from last year, so it should be the same. KAM I got wise to the pencil thing too! I don't mind kicking in for those who might be in need, but when I see the parents smoking or going into the local party store with their beer bottles, I have a problem with that! Use your money for something constructive-- your kids?! Our Wal-Mart & Target usually has good sales in Aug so I stock up on stuff. We needed 6 glue sticks for kindergarten. Now in 3rd its down to 3.
