I just received summons for Jury Duty, my first time.
It says I will receive $15 for the first day, so that means even if I am not selected I get the money?
Also, it mentions Casual Dress, I assume Jeans are not ok?

Yup 15$ no matter what. In Mi Wayne county it was bus casual. (Do def no jeans.) I would assume Jeans would not be okay, but you could call.

HAve fun!

I'm just hoping I dont end up on a murder trial or something! I dont have anything planned coming up until the 17th of June either, so I can't get out of it.

I was just going to wear some Kakkis and a polo. I figure that should be ok

Your lucky, last time I had JD I had to pay $8 a day for parking & received $0 in compensation. Was interesting to see how the "system" works, but was very boring 95% of the time. Bring something to keep you entertained.

I don't know how it is in your state, but I just had jury duty back in January. The judge and attorneys let us know how long the trial may last and if anyone already had a vacation scheduled that they could not get out of to let them know. Those that did (and there weren't too many) were excused.

The kakkis and a polo should be fine.

ETA: In NY, I only received $40/day because I'm not working. If you are working at a company with enough employees, you do not get paid by the State - your job pays you for the day. But again this is in NY so I don't know if other states work the same way.

Same here in MA as far as pay, you can opt to take court pay or employer pay but not both.

We don't have that option here. If you are umemployed or work for a company that doesn't have a lot of employees (I forget the exact number they use as the cut-off) you automatically get the court pay. If you work for a company that has a lot of employees and it's not a hardship on them, you get paid by your job.

I've served on jury duty twice and got paid I think $12 then $20 (in small town Ohio). If I had not been selected, I would not have received any payment. Everyone wore business casual. I saw no jeans. I don't think they would kick you out if you wore jeans, though.

It says $40 every day after.
I should be paid by them, since I'm just a part time employee in retail

Here, you get nothing for the first day.
Second day on, $15 a day.
55 cents a mile one way if you drive.
If you ride public transit, they will exchange your used ticket for your ride in for a pass for the ride home.

I was pd 12 or 15 for showing up. I think I wore sweats LOL. I was able to do a bit of digging and found out what case I was caLLED to serve on but never got selected thank goodness as my job didn't pay me and I couldn't afford loss in pay and courthouse roof falling in creeped me out.

When I lived in PA, my county paid $9 per day plus mileage. I was called for jury duty 3 times. The county would pay me. But my employer also would pay me for jury duty, minus what the county paid. I would just bring in the check from the county and they would deduct that amount from my regular weekly paycheck.

In my county, when you were called for jury duty, you served a minimum of 3 days. And they would split up the court cases by quarter. So, 1st and 3rd quarter of the year were civil court cases, 2nd and 4th were criminal court cases.

The first time I had jury duty, they only pulled a jury 1 time and I wasn't picked for that jury pool. So, the entire 3 days I sat around and read a book or watched tv with 300 other jurors waiting to see if they would pull another jury pool. The 2nd time I had jury duty, my number was called on the first day for a jury pool. And again, I waited around for 3 days reading books and watching tv, waiting for them to bring our jury pool in to seat a jury. On the third day, the case was settled out of court. The 3rd time I had jury duty, I was able to get out of it because I had served jury duty within the last 6 months.

Totally depends on your state. In CT, your employer is supposed to pay you for the time missed at work. If you are not a full time employee, you can request the stipend, which I think was $20 last time I went. I got it even without being on the jury (I never even got called in for voir dire, I just sat in the waiting room for a couple of hours until they dismissed everyone).

When I went a lot of people were wearing jeans/t-shirts. I wouldn't if I were chosen for a trial, but I did on jury selection day (I didn't really have anything else to wear at that point - I didn't work, I rarely went to 'dress up occasions' and I wasn't going out to buy something to wear to jury duty).
