"Junk" mail is out of control!

In the past two weeks, I've filled an entire recycling bin with junk mail! Catalogues from the most bizarre stores, and no less than 25 credit card offers. Then there's the offers to change car insurance, life insurance, and get a home equity loan in 24 hours. The amount of paper and ink is simply staggering!

For every one catalogue I get that I actually look at (not even order from) I must get 20 that I toss! I don't need Land's End and Pottery Barn and JC Penney's to send their catalogues! I do shop there, I know what they offer, and if I need it I'll go to the web site for it.

It's just craziness! I got an E-Bay catalogue--that just seemed stupid!

Anyone else? I'm off to shred credit card offers...

If people continue to take advantage of these offers, they'll continue to send them. They must be worthwhile to someone. :scratchin

I just wish there was a way to "opt out". Like when I place an order with a company, there would be a check box saying "Don't Send Catalogue". Oriental Trading is another. I placed an order from there for some party supplies, and now get a catalogue every month. I do'nt need it--I'll order online and find everything there. THey dont need to remind me they exist, trust me, I know, and if I need that type of product I would go to their web site.

It jsut seems like such a waste...although I do like the Bloomingdale's catalogue--and sent DH off with a page ripped out and an item circled. ;) But I could do without the catalogue and would have just described the item.

They need to make a goverment do not send list!

You can opt out of any offers that are credit related. You can call 1-888-5-OPTOUT to start the process. You can choose to either opt out for two years, or opt out forever.

You CAN opt yourself back in at a later time. :)

Hope this helps!

I don't know if this still exists, but at one time you could write the Direct Mail Marketing Association and ask to be removed from mailing lists. I suppose you could google it to find the address.
My DH reads ALL his junk mail...and he takes it all so seriously. As if they meant to send it DIRECTLY to him. All of it.

We get an average of 2 credit card offers each day along with about 20 catalogs a week. It gets ridiculous. I have a separate bin on my back porch for the catalogs I don't want and DH takes them to the dump about once a month.

I have gone through 2 shredders with all the credit card offers and "convenience" checks the card companies keep sending.

There's an online site as well, although I don't remember the URL for it. The phone recording tells what it is though. Someone had talked about this a little while ago & as I said on that thread, it seems to be working for me. Now it's only DH who is getting all the offers, but since putting his name in a couple weeks ago, it's slowing down a tiny bit. But it seemed like it took about 8 weeks for it to really kick in for my info.
