Jungle Cruise

I have heard various rumors about a Jungle Cruise boat sinking in March 2004. I just can't beleive it. Any truth to this?

We also wondered if Jungle Cruise wouldn't do better in AK in the water around the Discovery Island. Could this work or what do they plan to do with the water way. Looks too ride tempting to just let it sit empty!

I heard that about the Jungle Cruise also.

I never got to see it but there was a boat ride at AK when it originally opened. (I'm sure someone else can find the pictures/info). I agree...there should be something there.

Yes, a boat sank on JC...a maitenance worker didn't properly secure a hatch.

As for AK, if you look, those boats that operated when AK opened are back at their piers, but not because they are going into service. They were in storage over where EE is being built.

I wonder what kind of free stuff they give you to appease your suffering when a ride malfunctions. I'm sure some people would be all about suing over mental anguish and suffering.

I never got to see it but there was a boat ride at AK

When DAK opened they were meant to be a mode of transportation (ala the Friendship Launches at Epcot) and not an attraction. People would line up for 90 mins., get off and say "That was it!?!?!?!?!?!".

According to a friend of mine who works at the attraction, the boat only started to take on water; it didn't completely sink. No, no one was hurt, but some of the guests were (understandably) a little shaken up.

You get a free Tetnus shot.

Which is interesting. was talking to the girl running my JC boat at DL saturday night while waiting for an over long all clear from the dock and she said it was her understanding htat only the CMs would get the shot which is pretty crappy.

Tetanus shots were offered to any guest or CM who requested one, after the Jungle Cruise "sinking." Only one guest requested one, from what I understand, and he was taken to health services, where he filled out the appropriate paperwork and got his shot.

Other guests received free clothes (to compensate for their wet ones) if requested, and Disney laundered the wet things and delivered them to each guest's hotel (on or off property). I believe there were free tickets handed out, a couple of VIP PSs made for meals that were missed, and several plushes distributed. Most of the guests seemed to take it all as a silly "America's Funniest Home Videos" kind of adventure, as opposed to a situation that put them in true peril.

I envy them. Of the 100's of millions of JC passengers and MK visitors, how many can boost of a tale like this one.

One of the more memorable "Pirates Cruise" our famliy enjoyed was in Oct.02. When loading our ship, two guests of legendary proportions where both seated a-port! When we tried to round the corner by the Jail scene, we were listing into the turn, and started dragging along the shore! Then to compound the situation our fine ship was rammed from behind. The ramming caused our gunwales to slip beneath the waves and we became fouled on the underwater guide. For 20 minutes we where regailed by the "whistling jail birds" , until a member of the crew from a salvage team, clad in knee high rubber boots was able to free us from the reef.

Be warned, pick your shipmates wisely, or you may find yourselves run aground, with no rescue

Discovery Island? Wasn't that located in Bay Lake (pretty far from AK)?

Jungle Cruise is a DL and MK classic. It would have no place in AK. And for that matter, if it were at AK, then there would be no need for Adventureland at MK.

The parks to have something to offer those involved in accidents. SETTLEMENTS!

They didn't even wish me a happy birthday when I witnessed the carnage from the tree falling in Frontierland back in '01. All they did was cancel Fantasmic! Thanks DL for ruining my birthday.

I had an expierience similar to TiggerFreak's. Only mine was at Maelstorm at Epcot. We was almost to the end of the ride when it grounded. It took fifteen minutes fir them to gather 4 CM to drag the boat the remaining 30 feet.

The island in Bay Lake used to be called Discovery, but maybe a year or so after AK opened, they renamed the island where The Tree is Discovery. I don't recall the original island name.

i have no stories like that . the only 1 that i have that comes close is that i went to disney with my friends family and my friends lil bro kicked mickey in the shin. amazingly mickey still didnt talk. he did limp off tho. what a demonic child that kid was. poor mickey.

Years ago when I was a child my family took a trip to WDW and while standing in line for the Jungle Cruise an old lady tried to board the boat. The CM kept telling her not to, and that it wasn't secure to the dock yeat but she insisted and ended up falling between the dock and the boat breaking her leg or legs. I remember having to give a statement to Disney's lawyers and her's. She sued for millions but I think it was settled out of court.

i hate that kinda stuff, people insist on going and then when something goes wrong, they sue. i hope she only got like 3 dollars. she probably got at least 150,000 for it.

This happened years ago on the old"Mine Ride through the Painted Desert" at Disneyland. For those of you who remember the ride, it was in open mine cars strung together like a train. The ride took you through a variety of areas in the "west" but the show piece was the painted dessert with its bubbling pots of color and then on to the gyser "Old UNfaithful" Anyway on this glorious day the "conductor/college student" was flirting with some babes in the front car. He was not paying attention and screwed up the timing. You guessed it we were in the last car and old unfaithful spewed all over us. We were soaked. I mean really soaked all the way down to our underwear. The ONLY thing they did for us was to take us to the First Aide station take our clothes let us wear robes and sit in bathrobes for three hours while they got the stuff cleaned. We did have the pleasure of watching prospective CM's walk though with urine samples as they had a physical or something. I do not know why they need to give them only know as a little kid watching them go in the bathroom and then come out with them.
We were given our dry clothes without even an I am sorry and sent on our way 3 hours later. NOw for us we were there for two days BUT for a mother and son , who had also been in our car, they had only flown down for the day from San Franscisco.

Pretty shabby of them even then. We are talking 30 years ago but I still kind of cringe on rides with any type of "just miss the rider" spray of water etc like the Jungle Ride.

It was Safari Village. I heard one of the reasons they changed it was because people kept asking why the Safari ride wasn't in Safari Village.
