Around 3 O'clock today at the Magic Kingdom, one of the Jungle Cruise boats that had just came back from re-hab started to take on water, just shortly after the Hippo Pool of the attraction. Guest started to notice water rushing in from the bottom of the backside of the boat. The Skipper of the boat quickly took action by using a guests cell phone to call 911 to be connected to Walt Disney World Response teams. From recent phone calls to various sources, all the guest were safely evacuated from the attraction and it went 101 for the remainder of the day. A investigation into the attractions maintence is being looked into.

This is the first time in History a Jungle Cruise boat has gone under since Walt Disney World has been opened since 1971.

Jeez, you'd think they would have their own cell phones to communicate with the Response team. What if none of the guests had a cell phone?

Not only that but the few times I've called 911 on my cell it's taken about 5 minutes to get through! Yikes! They should have walkie talkies or something. Glad no one was hurt.

Does anybody have any idea how deep the water actually is in this attraction?

You would think that there would also be another boat really close in behind the first one, so they wouldn't have had to tread water for very long:eek:

Sorry, but the image of a bunch of tourists paddling in "The Amazon" is just too funny. :p

Oh my! My mother would've quite literally had a heart attack. She can't swim and is deathly afraid of water. I would've had to do CPR on her if she had been on that boat!!

Isn't the water only about 4-5 feet deep?

And why don't they have walkie-talkies on the boats?

I don't know why they closed it. Just pipe the naration from the old 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea ride into the boats and you're all set to go with an exciting new attraction!

Now you're talking! :p

Frankly, I'm surprised that this old attraction hasn't had an incident before now. That is impressive.

Does anyone have a url for this story as I'm not seeing it on any of the local Orlando stations?

very interesting site Dan, Thanks for the link::yes::

How does a "boat" on a track, sink? One would think it would just take on a certain amount of water while perched on the track? Not that I'm a nautical expert or anything. :) If they don't have radio contact with the loading zone, I'll bet they do now! :hyper:

Thanks for the link. I heard that some people also heard the news on FoxTV (WOFL) in Orlando.

The Original Poster here didn't said the boat sank but just "took on water," although the url linked above used the word "sinks" I think it was just used for shock value.
