what's going on there? While waiting in the queue, we saw two guys walking around and measuring things. The one guy had blueprints in his hand. We asked them if they were going to change things, but they acted as if they didn't hear us.

So, anyone know the scoop? We figured that since the queue is close to the water and only roped off, they might be building a safer queue there?! Any ideas? Any CM's working Jungle Cruise who can inform/enlighten!?

Disneyland updated several scenes in their Jungle Cruise a couple of years ago, adding a scene with dart guns and a rapids section with jumping fish. My friends rave about the changes. Maybe they are going to do the same at WDW?

They're building a new DVC resort there. They've been rumored everywhere else, what's one more?

Actually the DVC resort is planned for the queue at Haunted Mansion. I believe that the queue work at Jungle Cruise is related to the installation of vending machines and a plush shop. Details are sketchy...they may be selling live bait as well. If true it is likely that you'll no longer be allowed to bring your own live bait into the park....

I wish they would completely re-do the Jungle Cruise. To me, this ride is too old hat, especially since DAK opened. I would re-theme to make it all Disney characters. You could put in characters from the Jungle Book, Lion King, Tarzan, etc. How cool would it be to have a menacing Scar in the "dark" portion of the ride?

This is a joke, right?

Ack! Please, don't even joke about making Jungle Cruise a character based attraction! I'm not averse to tweaking Jungle Cruise (and I'm sure it will be tweaked once they do the feature film) but not with the characters. Ack! No, not that....anything but that.

It is not. The jungle cruise as we know it at WDW should be extinct.

Well, if you stuffed it with characters it would certainly be dead to me!

Why? You no like Disney characters?

Nah, I like 'em most of them just fine. I just think that they get plenty of exposure in other attractions and as walk arounds. There really needs to be a certain number of attractions that are free of movie tie-ins. Character tie-ins have become an easy way out for WDI. Walt Disney didn't go for the easy way out...he was all about challenges and building on his experiences. There is a great big universe full of big ideas and imagination that don't involve characters from animated films and, imo, WDI needs to focus more attention on those ideas.

Plus, I reallly like Jungle Cruise......

I guess the difference between you and me here is that I don't.

I'm with MJ that JC should either get a serious full-blown overhaul, or just all out removed. I apoligize to all the fundamentalists who love this campy old ride, but it takes up an enourmous amount of space and it looks like a museum piece now.

And for those who are fundamentalists, you will know that Walt sort of settled for this because he couldn't have what he wanted. What he wanted can best be described as Kilimanjaro Safari. MJ is right. KS makes JC old hat.

But all characters? That sounds like a every Fantasyland ride. I don't know. It has potential, but I like the idea of putting a DVC resort in there better! Now that would be cool :cool1:

Jungle Cruise is a beautiful, well themed attraction. I've never been disappointed by the attraction (although the last skipper we had wasn't too swift). But if you wanna talk about <cough> useless <cough> stuff that take enormous amounts of valuble real estate....I'd much rather see them spend some money to fix these problems:

Within the MK:
Poohs Lawn of Wonder and Delight
Stich's...err...whatever it is
Tomorrowland Slow-way

Outside the MK:
Richard Petty's Racing Oval of Wonder
Disney's Oversized World of Sports
The Mall at Downtown Disney
The Oversized Garishly Decorated Motel 6 over to I-5

If I put my mind to it I could think of about 1000 things I'd change before JC.

just my thoughts on it dontcha know............barrel

Here's my 2 cents on your thoughts barrell;

Within the MK:
Poohs Lawn of Wonder and Delight- disagree
Stich's...err...whatever it is- agree
Tomorrowland Slow-way- couldn't agree more, add spice and "Cars" characters

Outside the MK:
Richard Petty's Racing Oval of Wonder- yes!
Disney's Oversized World of Sports- yes! yes!
The Mall at Downtown Disney- no way, I like walking around there
The Oversized Garishly Decorated Motel 6 over to I-5- this doesn't bother although I wouldn't stay there.

Amen, without Walt, there would be now WDW in the first place, and while it wasn't completely what he wanted, he is on record with being completely in love with the outcome.

I hate the idea of adding characters. However, I think that the audio animatronics should be updated. I also think that each area should be a little more seperate from the others. Mist and fans would be nice too, but they might attract huge crouds. what a about expanding it and adding a rapids area where the boats go down a small waterfall (not a steep waterfall, just a nice, realistic touch)

The Mall at Downtown Disney- no way, I like walking around there

How do you know you wouldn't like walking around there if there were changes?

What if the changes were away from chains and more towards unique experiences?

I called Disney and after several transfers I finally got to the imagineering dept.....seems that they were only hanging a new light bulb. Glad to help anytime.
