Juneau Question

Would you have time to do both the gold mining and Mendenhall Glacier excursions?
Are those separate DCL excursions? If so, if you try to book both and it (the website) lets you then there's enough time. Typically DCL requires something like 2 hours between excursions for both to be bookable.

You can also do Mendenhall on your own very easily. We rented a car from the Juneau Car Rental company. It was $60 for the day and we were able to disembark at 8 AM, pick up the car and arrived at the glacier at 8:30 AM. We practically had the place to ourselves. It was wonderful! We were back downtown in Juneau by 11 for some shopping and back on board at noon for lunch. Then we went whale watching in the afternoon (but you could probably do the gold thingie in the afternoon). Or reverse the two and do the gold thing in the morning but I'll tell you being at the glacier first thing when nobody was there was wonderful.

I did a bicycle ride to Mendenhall Glacier and beer tour (which was one tour) and the Mt Roberts Tramway. I was rushing to get to the tramway before the last departure and rushed may way around Mt Roberts when I reached the top. I think if I just did a basic glacier tour and Mt Roberts I would have had plenty of time. As previous posters have mentioned you can do Mendenhall Glacier on your own so you are not stuck waiting around for a tour group.
