Looking to plan a trip for either the first week of June or the second week of October 2017 - any thoughts on weather and crowds for either time of year?

June is going to HOT and crowded. October is more of mixed bag for crowd and weather. in October you have F&W and MNSSHP. the weather at the beginning of the month can be just as hot as the summer weather 90+ and told the the end of the month you could get some cooler weather 60-70. i prefer the October time because even with the swing in weather change during the month its better than knowing you are going to roast the whole day in the June sun.

I prefer October it can be a bit crowded because some schools have a fall break about that time but it's not a solid heat and humidity like june

October weather can be hot, but is almost always better than June. Crowds are worse in June too but not much different than October (I've been in both June & Oct months in the last year). October has MNSSHP as well as Food & Wine and fall decorations so that alone would tip me towards October, but it depends on if those things interest you. This past June the heat index was 110+ while we were there and it was truly miserable for several hours a day. I've never had heat like that in October and we go in October almost every year.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm leaning towards June only because I have a high schooler who doesn't want to miss school. We have a few days off the week in OCT but he's really serious about not missing work! The other thought I had was that I might have a better chance of getting free dining in June based on the BB that was just released - I also don't believe that free dining is usually offered in OCT. I've concluded that it's going to be hot regardless - I know there are plenty of ways to escape the heat, and we are a family that will go early in the morning, take breaks during the day and lounge at the pool and head back at night. What it really boils down to is when DH can get time off from work!!!

We went the first week of June this year and had a great time. It was hot and crowded, but some days worse than others. A tropical storm was in the area so we had some wet days, but surprisingly, nothing was completely rained out. We are going again in October, so I can't compare for now, but we are hoping that it is not as hot or as crowded.

June is hot and stormy and all that. But go with what makes your kid most comfortable. October is crowded now too.

October is better for the atmosphere and weather but it has become VERY popular. Check to see if there are any running events as well.

I've been hearing that October is becoming more and more popular - I know Food and Wine will be going on and I'm assuming MNSSHP too. June dates would be 3-10 and October would be 7-14. The other positive thought for June would be that neither of the boys would miss any of their practices/games like they might in October....ugh! Decisions decisions....

We went in October 18-24, 2105 and June 6-12, 2106. In my opinion I thought October was WAY more crowded!! But we also went to Food & Wine and MNSSHHP twice. October was cooler but still 75/80's. June was hot like 90 but I like the heat. The pool felt warmer in June. And we went to the waterparks in june. But we did swim everyday in October at the resort it was plenty warm. October I needed a sweatshirt at night. If you like heat then June (I loved it). Our week in October we had zero rain. Not one drop. On our June week we came in on tropical storm Colin so 1.5 washout days and then the rest of the trip had the usual afternoon showers. October was great since we could go to the halloween party. The only downside is that October hours everything closes early like at 7 pm (That's why we did 2 parties so we could stay in the parks until midnight). In June the parks were open until 11 or 12. I would love to go back in October to do MNSSHP again but living in CT we don't have a school break in October. But we are out of school in June. Oh - and I thought October was more busy dining wise too. Our June trip was very last minute (we booked it in May with only a month ahead of time) and I was able to get all the ADRs we wanted or maybe I was just lucky! I just think October felt A LOT more crowded. (maybe it was the tropical storm hitting florida or the gay days that kept everyone away on our june week but I thought that was the best june week ever!! I want to do the same june week again but they changed the school schedule to get out june 16th now! grrrr Though they don't do anything the last week anyway right??)

I would always choose October over June for several factors. Main St is decorated really nice and its a great fall atmosphere. Heat should be less intense from June. Crowds May be lighter if you stay away from Columbus Day Weekend.

We've been to Disney twice in June and four times in October. The first week of June is not summer crowded, as a significant number US schools aren't out yet on summer break. Early October is much more crowded than late October, when crowds ease off a bit. Fall breaks tend to be in early October, and Columbus Day, which is the same day as Canadian Thanksgiving, makes things more crowded. Complicating matters in October are MNSSHP, which really restricts hours at the MK and in turn pushes evening crowds to other parks, mainly Epcot since Food & Wine is going on. Early October whether may not be substantially different than June...one of our trips, it was in the 90s every single day.

We started going to Disney when my kids were young (2 and 5 on the first trip), and now that they've aged 5 years and can stay up later, I find we're appreciating the summer hours more, because we all trend to being night owls rather than early birds.

All great points! I appreciate all of you sharing your insights. My October dates would fall over Columbus Day weekend, which was also a concern I had regarding crowds. My kids will be 14 and 16 and have no issue staying up LATE - sometimes too late! So I'd have to take park hours into consideration as well...the last time they were at WDW they were in strollers so this trip will be a drastic change and I honestly don't know if it will be easier or harder :sad2: that said, my DH hasn't been to WDW in the past 38 years!! This trip has taken some solid convincing on my part - he has been on three DCL trips and we were looking to cruise again, but prices skyrocketed on Disney - we looked at other lines and nothing really appealed. That's when I said, well, I would love to go back to the world - it's been 8 years and I'm getting the itch! Now it's time to relearn all things Disney - so much has changed since my last visit!!! Thanks again to all of you for taking the time to post!

At this point it will come down to when DH can get time off work - personally, I 'd prefer Ocotber, but with the kids not wanting to miss school (we only have 2-3 days off the week I'm looking at) and hubs having to jump through hoops to get time off, I suppose I can be flexibile...lol

Better weather in October but I have been reading how October is getting to be even more crowded than say, early June.

October! It's super hot on Orlando in June plus kids are out of school. In October you can attend the Halloween party and the food and wine festival is also going on.
