June, July, August PLANNING thread

One of dh biggest pet peaves is staying 2 weeks. When you go to buy tickets, not sure you will splurge for AP's or not, the 10 day ticket is too good to pass up. We buy the base tickets and plan to only visit one park each day. Maybe when they get older, the hoppers will work but for now the kids are too exhaused to spend that many hours at the parks. They love the down time at the resort and going to the pool. So, I am trying really hard to keep it to close to one week but when you add travel days, you are up to 10 days, 9 nights right?

I need help with the tickets. Don't see the ap working for us since we can't move our dates up the following summer. We would never use 10 days when we go so I'm not sure what to do. I was going to buy a 7 day. We do hop though. Do you buy the non expiration then?

ap is 355 with DVC discount
7 day hopper with options expires 306
7 day hopper no option expires 264

10 day hopper no expiration 435
10 day hopper with options no expiration 478

A 10 day wouldn't work for two trips either...
I'm so confused.

MKY: So happy you finally got your discount. I have been getting up to check just for you.

EE22: We have always purchased the 10 day base ticket that expires. It was so cheap, like $235. Same price for a 4 day or 10 day give or take a few dollars. I did not realize that it got so expensive when you add the options. I am assuming that you added the hopper to make the price jump. I do remember that adding the no experation made the price sky rocket and it was hard for me to decide if it were really worth it to lay out so much extra for a trip that would take place in the next years budget. For us to buy the 4 10 day tickets, our bill was $750. You seem to be past that at 2 tickets. May be better to buy the AP with the discount but that will expire after 1 year, maybe plan the trips to fall almost back to back so you 2 years out of the AP? Not sure if you are locked into the same week each year with DVC or just a certain amount of points each year to use. I think they make it so confusing so you just throw in the towel and say oh just give me what I need and worry about it later.

I was up for like 2 hours last night reworking our itinerary. We have a late flight home. I think we are going to keep our room on the last day so we have a place to change and clean up before traveling. With the free dining, it also give us the extra credits so when I looked at what our meals would cost oop, it made sense to just hold onto the room for the extra night. We have a reservation at Chef Mickeys that I want to hold onto. It is in the afternoon and we our flight is not until 8:00pm.

I am just wondering if anyone has been to MK on a Sunday. I am thinking of going there on 8/26, first day of free dining, they have the Magical Beginnings that day. I really want to catch that this year, supposedly characters are out for the first hour in Fantasyland and will go on rides and play games with the kids. Not sure if it is going to be a crazy busy day at the park though.

TP2: I read a trip report for someone that went to that at MK and they said it was great. I would try to go. I wouldn't think a Sunday at the MK would be bad. We were there on a Sunday at Christmas time and we had the place to ourselves till nearly 11:00.

Tickets: I think for me I will get an annual pass so I can get the DDE card. I have to see if I will save $100 with it. The cost of the card and the cost of the increase in the ticket. Then it gets tricky. The boys would have to have a PAP since they go to Quest which comes in at 462 which isn't worth it. They need options and the hopper. Amanda would need the hopper only since I have old Quest tickets she could still use. Hers would be the 264 so I don't see spending the 355 for the ap for her either. We park hop all the time so they have to have the hoppers and the boys hit Quest nearly everyday.

The chances we would be able to back up our trip a week are slim to none so getting two uses out of an ap for them probably won't happen. That track meet we just went to DH would want them to go to again and that's the weekend before we are going next year. I really picked the ONLY week next summer we can go

With DVC we are NOT locked into a specific week...our lives locked us into that week.

EE22: Gotcha. Too bad you can't get two uses out of the AP. Would not hurt as much to purchase.

$94 a night for a moderate is not bad. Almost makes me want to look into buying an AP again. I also like $249 at the Poly. DH would never go for that but it is a decent price. Congrats to all that waited and waited for your discounts.

Seems like there were some good rates that people were getting. Nothing for AKL!!! I'm so glad we bought DVC NO DISCOUNTS. I wonder when they open up completely in 09 if they will offer DVC discounts there like they do the other places?

Yeah, I am not going to change anything. I was just having so many problems with the itinerary because we are close to Labor Day weekend. We have been before so it is not like we need to make a mad dash to see everything. I just want to make sure we relax a bit and have time to rent boats and play miniature golf.

I think that they must have closed off part of the AKL. It seems to be hard to get reservations there lately and that is not usually the case. DH is dying to stay there and there was no availablility. I think once the construction is done discounts will be offered there again.

There is major construction going on at AKL. I'm glad we weren't there this summer actually. We had massive construction at school this year and I'm just tired of it. I think at AKL, it would have put me over the edge. Teaching over jack hammers isn't my idea of a good time. I still can't believe they did that work during the year One morning I was walking down the hallway and they were welding and there were sparks flying everywhere It's suppose to be done by August 1st. I'm not holding my breath!!

MKY - We broke down & splurged for the AAA rate on the CR MK view for our last 3 nights this trip .... It's a lot of $$$, but we really want to get to watch the fireworks from the balcony!

TP2 - We have been to the MK on many Sundays & don't really seem to have a problem with it, but our kids are older than the Magical Beginnings crowd, so I have no idea about that.

Chloe - Glad to see y'all are going to make it on-site!!! Congrats! You will LOVE spending your anniversary there!!! We should compare iteneraries & try to hook up.

And ..... DH called today with the new AP rates for Aug/Sept .... we are now booked at Coronado for 8/31 - 9/3. I think we're going to try to go to the Pirate & Princess party on the 31st. His boss will be there too .... same dates, same resort, same P&P party ...

Okay - I hope to come back tonight & play a little tiny bit of catch up on this thread ...... TTFN!

that's cool! We are going to be there at the same time. We don't have hoppers so we are at 1 park a day. Sun-MK Mon-Epcot WS Tues-MGM Wed- AK Thurs-Epcot FW Friday- whichever park we missed the most at.

yeah, I will check it out.. might be nice to have something personalized for our anniversary.

I'm now trying to figure out when I should call the resort and tell them about our anniversary because someone on another thread said they called ahead of time.. and they ended up having a basket of fruit and their pins waiting in their room for them.

Do you know how soon they know which room they are putting you in.. i know it's about a week probably.

mky is very happy tonight. I didn't have to make any last minute rush decisions and still saving some $$. Enjoyed my day at work and still smiling. I can sleep in tommorrow morning, ok 5:15am but its something & I won't feel guilty that I should be booting the lap top.
