June/July/August 2006 Code watch

Sorry just trying to share the facts, good luck, I am looking for them too. :thumbsup2

If you want to get really depressed about the chances of discounts read this article that came out last week in the NY Times . It specifically mentions Disney.

Good article thanks for posting. We are currently booked for AAA rate at the Beach Club for June 18-28. I am still remaining optimistic that June/July/August AP codes will be out by Friday however my DW has just informed me that we will not be renewing our PAP's in July. She feels Disney's reluctancy in providing hotel discounts to AP holders is just another example where the Disney magical experience has been lost over the years. :sad1:

Just called the cm did check, and said "no not yet" "just till june 3rd". Check all major sites and passholder site and nothing yet.
Guess we will all be up early again. :surfweb:

Still watching :3dglasses and waiting  :hourglass And now very depressed. :sad2:

Bill, it just seems that way sometimes as we wade through the planning. I truly believe once you arrive in June, at the Beach Club the discounts or lack of them, will magically float away.

Life is short, I try very hard to stay focused on that. Enjoy your trip to the BC one of my favorites.

A Disney spokesperson was once quote in an article about hotel discounts, as to why Disney did not offer many. This was prior to 9-11 when truly Disney discounts were not that easy to come by.

The spokesperson said, we truly do not want to start offering year round discounts, because the guests will become used to them and when we are financially able to take them away, they will be disappointed. So true.

So I came home today and read through all of the days posts with mixed emotions. Some made me angry, some made me laugh. Many made me sad. I had just finished explaining to my DH the other night how even though I'm sure we all come from different backgrounds, it made me smile to think how we all bonded together over our love of Disney...and our wishing for codes! Then I come home to read all of this.
I'm not going to address anyone directly because it would take all day...I just want to say that many of us who have waited patiently have been polite to the CMs. Although I've been watching and waiting for weeks, I wake up early to check the sites religiously and check the posts, but I have been careful to not call CRO too much. At the same time, I'm grateful to all of the people who do call daily to let us know the latest news. On my FIRST CALL this year to CRO, I had a very unpleasant CM who was so rude to me that I hung up in tears. (I mentioned this in a much earlier post on this thread.) I wasn't even calling about AP codes, just with a simple question! I've called CRO 4 times over the past two weeks with reservation changes or questions. For 3 of the 4 calls, I reached unpleasant CMs. Definitely lacking that Disney *magic*. I'm sure they are frustrated with having to say the same thing over and over but Disney "guests" have a right to call and ask, so long as they are polite.
As far as booking only what you can afford, when I was new to the boards, people gave me mixed advice on what to do about this. I had our first set of ressies at 2 resorts we could afford at AAA rates, but we just weren't happy with it. We switched to the resorts we really wanted at AAA rates, but it's a real stretch at those rates. If that's what we have to do, we'll manage...or we'll downgrade to an available resort that's less expensive. (I understand this throws the availability off a bit, some say decreasing the chance of codes, but we need to also be happy with our decision.)
Whatever we all chose to do, we should remember what brought us all here. I’m guessing that people who don’t care about WDW wouldn’t waste their time and energy posting on these boards. So we’re all here because we want to make our Disney vacations the best and most magical ever. Most of us don’t feel that we’re “owed” a discount. We’ve let ourselves hope for and even expect a code to be released because, historically, they always have been – except for a few holiday blackout dates. It’s hard not to get disappointed when you turn another month on the calendar and still no word. Especially since we keep hearing “any day now!” Will it ruin our vacations? Hopefully not for most of us. But it is disappointing when you also see airline costs going through the roof and you can’t count on the extra dollars you’ll get back from your AP discount.
I, for one, will keep waiting, watching and hoping. I’ll take another look at the numbers on Friday and see if we can really manage at AAA rates. Until then, I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow, reporting for duty.

Happy thoughts and Pixie Dust for tomorrow morning!

Yes I did, and I am man enough to admit I was wrong. Trends dont lie. The trend, as others have confirmed, were for release TODAY.

As in betting on NFL, dont bet against the trend. OK, i was wrong...but in the long run, "a trend is your friend".

Hope you know I was teasing!

Thanks for calling. I am always wondering but don't want to call too often. It helps that you fill us in when you do.

Question, :listen: does anyone know if they offered AP discounts prior to 9/11? I am assuming no general public discounts, but what about AP? My thought is they did offer them but I want to hear from someone with prior experience.

Somewhere someone posted that there were ap rates before 9/11, but they were always released very late.

I thought so. Back in 1998 I planned a conference at the Yacht and Beach Club. I traveled down with a family of 5 that was going for 2 weeks and staying at the same resort. I spoke with the dad at length because I could not imagine how someone could afford to take a family of 5 (teenagers to boot) to that resort for that length of time unless they were RICH. Well he explained to me that there were ways around it and there were ALWAYS discounts, you just need to know where to look. He also said that he took his family every year for 2 weeks and always deluxe. That was back in 1998 and he had been doing it for years, he said since his kids were babies. All I am saying is I think we all need to have some patience.

Tripplanner2 & Eeyorelover22,

Yes it was me who posted it. Prior to 9/11 the ap rates where offered about 1 to 1/2 months before the date. And I remember getting skipped over twice once in july and once in October. Of course that was also before the "net" took off and we didn't call because of the long distance rates. I would wait for my mickey monitor and call when I got it. Once all the resort's I wanted where already (ap rates) gone. And I asked the cm, I just got my mickey monitor with the announcement and was told they sent out the mickey monitor to different parts of the country rotating them so that everyone got a chance. Now with our technology it doesn't matter. I guess, I am really aging myself here, or proving what a disneyfile I truely am and how long we have been going?

Lets keep crossed and "wish" for tommorrow. princess:

Yes, let's hope for tomorrow.
My Dove chocolate quote said tonight, "Don't think about it so much." :)

Forgot to mention that I clearly remember 9/11 with Disney because we where at disney for 2 weeks during 9/11 got there on the 4th and left the 22nd. So I tend to recall before and after easier. Last trip I took anywhere of significance other than disney was 95' cause I did win in las vegas and bought a car 95' when we got home.

Yes, I was traveling in August so it does make sense that they skipped July. Oh god, I had not even thought of that. My conference was the last week of August. Free dining starts August 13. Maybe this really is the end of codes. :scared1: :scared1:

Keep positive TP2 :) If you have been in august, every time we are there right after the 2nd week the crowds are about cut in half, for the rest of the month. That is why the dining pkg. came out then. :thumbsup2 (MKY rationalizing).

ok guys, time for me to surrender for tonight, it`s been a l-o-n-g day !
I`ll be right back here tomorrow, bright and early !
Let`s everyone think Possitive ! pixiedust:
Goodnight to all my wonderful AP Friends :wave2:

I've been getting AP rates for about 11 years now, before I moved to Florida. We would come every year in either March, April, or October when we lived in NY and I always got them. I would book the room first and then add the discount later. We moved to Florida in July of 1999 and went to Disney constantly up until about 2 years ago. We would go spur of the moment for long weekends and would spend about 36 nights per year there. Never once was I not able to get either an AP or Fl resident discount. We went in almost every month, including over Easter and I've never been shut out. If they don't come out for June, this will be the first time I've paid rack rate at Disney for about 12 years.

I will see you bright and early. :wave2:

WHEN codes come out, we all have to chip in for poor kinggoofy who needs rent money ;)

I do wish he had been right though.
But, tomorrow is another day.

Someday the codes will come....
