June/July/August 2006 Code watch

Go to the DVC rental board and post that you like to rent points & get a reservation for a certain date (make sure you read the guidelines). Then if a member has points to rent they will respond to you. They have to make the reservation, but it will be put into your name. It is usually $10-$12 per point, and for June-July a one bedroom would be 22 points, Sun-Thur at old key west (for example). The Friday - Sat point cost is dramatically higher (54 points/night).
I've rented a few times and have always had a good experience.

I just called Disney and they said it was a recommendation not a requirement for the trundle bed age. I may be switching my ressie tomorrow! Thanks for the info- you still can't beat staying inside Disney property! :mickeyjum :goofy: :donald:
It just goes to show that it depends on which CM you talk to. I was refused booking (over the phone) because our youngest is 11, so we had to switch to Plan B (BC) because of this. I guess I should have just kept calling until someone let me book it, or I'll have to start booking online! Of course I'm not disappointed to be staying at BC (we are so lucky) but we were planning on POR this year, and the deluxe next year. I'll just go ahead and book POR next year regardless, but my husband doesn't like to do anything that might result in a problem when we check in (we are rule followers). He thinks that with our luck we'll check in and they'll make us pay for two rooms at rack rate. It really does just depend on who you get. If you can do it, it sure does save a ton of money, but it is a tight fit.

How do you know you are not dealing with someone who is going to run off with your money?

You don't know. That's why I can't bring myself to do it.

After thinking this DVC process over- it seems too complicated and like others have said- too risky. If I knew someone personally who had DVC points I would consider it, but personally I don't think it would be a wise decison. So I'm still going to be "praying" for AP rates so we can stay at YC if not it's POR for us!

The owners I've dealt with have accepted Paypal (which gives you some recourse if the deal goes sour). They have also sent & signed contracts. What I'd suggest is to do a user id search on a member who contacts you. You can see if they've been around here for a while, and if they have and they are in the habit of ripping people off, there would be posts about it.
Usually if there is enough time they will ask for a portion down and the rest payable later.

The biggest problem is that once made, and a certain date has been reached, you cannot cancel. This may cause the owners to lose those points, and they probably wouldn't refund you (and rightfully so).

I have rented out my points 14 times and I have 14 happy renters. I used contracts most of the time. That way if something went wrong you could take some action. Also, I provide references for my renters to help them feel better. It takes a lot of trust on both sides though!

DVC points before with no problem for people on these boards. It's a great way to get a fabulous rate at a deluxe category resort. One person took a check (I don't have paypal) and one has her own business so I was able to use my credit card to her business which I think offered me some protection. I hate to sound gullible, but for the most part I trust DISers.

If you're not able to risk it blindly, doesn't paypal offer some protection?

With the lack of codes, it's not a bad idea.

Hey everyone! I've been following this thread for awhile (months I believe!) and feel like I know everybody! Like a little family. I hope everyone gets what their looking for and has magical vacations! My routine for the last coupld of months has been make coffee (with one eye open) drink coffee (there goes the other eye!) and read this thread before getting ready for work. We were booked at WL with a AAA rate but just got a call that said there was availability for us at SOG. How about that? At 33 days before we leave! See magic happens! Were going to go to shades (we are renting at BWV for the second half of our trip so we will have the Disney themeing while there!) so I will stop checking this thread every morning but wanted to wish everyone the best. I didn't post very often (quiet in real life too!) but hoping for pixie dust for everyone! :cheer2:  :thumbsup2

Thanks for your replies. I have tried to book POR online with a family of 5, listing their ages and it comes up available and doesn't reject us because we are five. Maybe I'll give Disney a call and see if it's possible.

Online doesn't catch these things like a person on the other end of the phone. I was able to book three adults in a room and wasn't charged extra either.

By the way, has anyone called this afternoon to see if it's still a "No" we're getting on the codes?

I will try to call if no one else has.

I called and got 'no, not yet'. The Cm said that they are usually notified about 30 seconds before the code is released, and that they haven't heard any buzz about it at all.

She wouldn't expand on whether or not she thought one would come out at all, she just said, oh I hope so!

She also did mention that the codes can come out at any time during the day and that I was doing the right thing by calling and checking. She said to keep calling back and checking!

It was nice to get a friendly CM for a change! :)

I called at 4;15 CT. This is my conversation....
"Hi, are the AP rates out yet"?
CM: "Let me check"
CM: "Excuse me, do you mean the rates for 2007"???????????

I laughed and said "NO, the AP rates for after June3rd 2006"

CM: "Oh im sorry, they are not out yet, try back after memorial day".

I could do nothing but just hang up.

Don't shoot me but I think that they may not come out until June 5 because the last day to book the dining package is June 4. I really hope I am wrong but it is just a feeling I am having. :sad2:

Hmmm....no leak yet today.....

I doubt they will come out tomorrow. I won't bet any more of KingGoofy's assets :sad2: ....but, I think the info will leak at least a day before the codes are "officially" released. It's happened the past few times....so, I'm thinking it will happen again.

Unfortunately.....If we don't hear anything in the next couple of hours, then I doubt we will see a release tomorrow morning.

I still think they are eventually coming, though.....I wish they would hurry!

Just my opinion.
Speed :teleport:

Ooh tp2 --> You might be right? Maybe they'll stil release them through 8/13?

I've decided to just keep on watching and waiting and hold on to our 7/7-7/15 ressies at AAA rates for WL & AKL . Suprisingly, there's lots of availability still (even in the moderates) for our back-up dates of 6/30-7/8. If it's a month from now and still no AP codes, I'll decide what to do then. Thankfully, we've booked room only, so I don't need to worry about the penalty for changing after 45 days.

I don't know if I'll keep getting up to at 5am every morning after this week, but I'll sure be checking every morning, noon and night!

Clap your hands if you believe in codes! Everytime someone out there says "I don't believe there will be codes," somewhere out there, an AP code falls down dead. If you believe in codes, clap your hands and say "I do believe in codes! I DO believe in codes!"

I do believe in the code fairy! {clapping my hands}

This is driving me crazy. I have reservations at FW for June 7-25  on AAA rate currently. Was hoping to have the AP rate. Guess I will just have to keep trying. You are right, some of the cm's are quite nice and helpful, but others are not. Hope the rates come out soon.
