June 8, 2011 – Mediterranean

We are finally booked! Totally elated! I want to send out a thank you to the few that gave me the "hang in there" with the price fluctuations and the unsurity of it all. The price did come back down and I jumped on it (I'm chicken what can I say!) and glad I did as it is now back up! Yea me!

I have read your board posts re. the excursion and everybody scrambling to get with a group. I would like to put my family in the mix!!! We are a family of 3, DH and myself (mid 50's) and DS who will be 11 at time of cruise. We have never been to any of these ports so all the excursions sound exciting. Please let me know what you have available in your group!! I'm a little concerned how it all works. How do you commit to a "group" Do we individually have to put down our deposit and pay the rest at time of excursion? Is there a concern that when the time of excursion comes there may only be 3 of us that show??? Any advice you pros have is greatly appreciated!!!

Any JW's on this cruise? If so email me (it's my login name as I don't know how to change it!).

Anyone from NC on this cruise? I thought I remembered seeing a post from someone from NC but haven't had time to go thru and reread the posts.

My other request for advice has to do with insurance. We are traveling from NC to London a few days before the cruise to stay with my sister. We are taking the insurance for the cruise out with Disney. Reflecting on what happened last year with the smoke situation, is there insurance that will insurance the whole package. Disney will not reimburse us if our own airfare screwed us will they? Advice from the pros again is appreciated.

Okay, have taken up enough white page for one day. So excited to be amongst you guys and having the time of our lives!

Have a great Disney Day!

Congrats on booking -- that is great news!:cool1:

I wonder if DCL is rethinking Tunis as one of the ports. I hope they're at least entertaining the idea of another port with all the problems they're having right now with the riots.

I think at this point the "Magic" is not going to Tunis. Found this on the UK travel web site:

We advise against all but essential travel to Tunisia.

The situation in Tunisia is now calmer but demonstrations are expected to continue and incidents of violence are still possible.

A State of Emergency was declared on the afternoon of 14 January under which it is illegal for more than two people to congregate in a public place, including in cars. A nightly curfew has been imposed in the Greater Tunis area between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00. Local curfews may be imposed in other areas of the country too. These restrictions remain in force until further notice and could be subject to change. You must respect the curfew and listen for announcements about any changes to the curfew requirements. You may also encounter roadblocks. If so, approach slowly and do not cross any boundaries without permission.

The situation is unpredictable and may change quickly. British Nationals in Tunisia should take responsibility for their own security, monitor the situation closely, stay away from demonstrations and large gatherings of people, public buildings (such as Government offices, the Presidential Palace), exercise caution, and observe instructions given by local security authorities and tour operators.

There is a general threat from terrorism in Tunisia. Attacks cannot be ruled out and could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by British expatriates and foreign travellers. See Safety and Security - Terrorism.

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if we don't go to Tunis. Don't get me wrong safety is my number one concern but we choose this cruise because we wanted to visit north Africa. I wonder if they are going to add another port or have a "fun day at sea".

There's a thread in the cruise forum right now about this. Some are saying it's too late for Disney to find another port. Some think that it'll be a sea day if we don't go to Tunis. Apparently DCL is monitoring the situation (LOL ... did we even doubt that?) but they've yet to make a decision.

It's looking less likely we're going to Tunis... the situation there is pretty unstable. Tunis made the DCL cruise a bit different from the other ones available out there. It's a shame that there's such troubles there right now.

I do hope that Disney can find us another port should we end up not going. There's got to be a way for Disney to use it's clout (ie, money) to find us another port. If they don't and we get a sea day, do we get some port taxes back?

Hmmmm... apparently, the Wonder is not going to stop in Matzatlan during it's MR cruise. Somebody just posted that they changed the itinerary today because of the violence happening there. They're having a second port day in Cabo (a few days after their first day in Cabo).

It gives me hope that if DCL can do that so quickly, surely they can do something about a new port for the MED cruises.

Yes that is a good sign they were able to find another port in such short notice. I would hate to lose out on port day.
My guess is once they're through cleaning up the "Matzatlan stop", they'll focus on Tunis.
I'm disappointed that we won't be going to a "different continent", but I think the situation there won't be stable enough within then next 4-5 months for Disney to risk it.

Hiya

We were on an 8 night med cruise last summer. There was a pirate night and also a formal and semi-formal.

It seems that it is standard practice to have the formal night on the first sea day.

I hope this helps.

Mary

Does anyone have copies of past med navigators? Or, does anyone know when they will have formal night and semi-formal? Also, do they still a pirate night?

Thanks!

Wendy

Oooops didn't use the quote the last time !!

On the 8 night med last year, we had formal night on first sea day and also a pirate night and semi-formal.

When we were on the WBTA last September, the lady for the spa taking the bookings in Studio Sea said that the formal night is always on the first sea day.

I haven't done a 10 night yet, I wonder if we will get 2 formal nights or 2 semi-formals?

Mary

We are flying to Venice after our cruise and are thinking of using SpanAir. Has anyone ever flown them before?

Hi All! I haven't been posting here in awhile.... We just got back (sun) from our very quick 2 day Disney Wonder cruise to nowhere!! We all had a blast! Now we are ready to focus and plan for this much awaited Med cruise!!! a little over 4 months to go!! :yay::yay:

We will also be cruising the Med on the Magic. We are so excited and have just put our deposit down for the cruise and booked our flights out of Pittsburgh. We will be arriving on the 7th and then spend 4 days in Paris after the cruise. I will be travelling with my DH and my 2 DS, ages 3 and 7 & 1/2. I would love to meet up with someone who has a 7-8 year old son also. He is my anxious one and is already worried about going to the kids club. I look forward to getting loads of tips and sharing as I learn. I feel like I am getting a late start and need to get myself up to speed asap.
