June 5, 2016 - Magic Goes to England, Ireland, Scotland and France

I didn't get it! I think it's because I'm brand new to the board.
Welcome aboard!
You need 10 posts to be able to send or receive PMs - feel free to make the other 7 you need to get your post count up - either ask a question in each post or just post 4, 5, 6.... we don't mind!
And I'll add you to the who's sailing list - glad you found your way over here!

As a reminder, it's almost last call for Fish Extender sign-ups. PM alohagirl73 if you want to join in.

Hi! We've never participated in FE-- DH doesn't want to lug stuff to UK to exchange, DS does. Can you give me some ideas of expectations of FE gifts? Thanks!

It's really whatever you want to do - people don't want to lug a lot of stuff back home, either, so small and useful is good. I'm not sure how many cabins have signed up at this point.

Tomorrow is last day to sign up for FE.

I just want to be sure I have everyone from here. If I missed you, please let me know. And sorry.

If you have not told me the number of cabins you want to exchange with I need to know. Otherwise will put you in 10 cabins. We have over 30 cabins. I want to say closer to 35 participating.

My goal is to have the list out to you on Sunday. Just have my DD birthday party tomorrow and then can focus more on this trip.

My daughter and I would love to join a 10 cabin FE. I can't send messages yet...need to post a few more times! What info would you need from us? Thanks bunches for taking your time to do this for everyone!!!

We are a little late to this party, so forgive me if this was posted and I missed it. Opened our cruise docs today and glanced through, but I didn't see any reference to themed days - pirate? tropical? Frozen? - or a mention of "formal" nights. Anyone know any details on this? I'd hate to leave my wooden leg at home if I'm going to need it.

There will be a Frozen night. And a formal and semi-formal night. Frozen night will be on the night coming out of Dublin.

just thought I'd post some last minute things you might not have thought of for Dublin port but which probably applies to other ports too.

Our weather is unpredictable, today we had hail stone showers and bright blue skies alternating. Pack an umbrella, warm hat and sun screen and sun glasses. I'm still wearing my winter coat and its near the end of April!

Pack comfortable walking shoes as you will walk alot more in Europe than you do at home. Think going to WDW / DL.

Pack a couple of reusable cloth / fold-able cloth bags. In Dublin stores only give out paper bags with purchases. I'm guessing you will be all buying souvenirs, and if it rains many of these bags fall apart. I keep 2 fold up bags in my handbag at all times.
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I've been meaning to ask you for the past month but kept forgetting to do it. You talk about taking the different buses but what do you think of the "Viking" one - that goes on water and land. If you've already talked about it I apologize. Thanks in advance!

I haven't been on it but my sister did it as part of a bachelorette party, lol, she was not impressed as the maid of honour arranged it but had not told the girls so everyone turned up in dresses for a night of partying. Other than that she said it was a good laugh. I have seen them around town and they seem to be great fun. The drivers do the live commentary and they are typical Dublin old school sarcastic humour. For example on Thursday when I was coming home and waiting for my bus, an empty one stopped in traffic beside the bus stop. The driver started talking to us, he said " I hope your bus comes soon, there are hailstones on the way, I was singing Jingle Bells to kids on the last tour" The traffic moved and he said bye now, and waved to us.

They give Viking Helmets and ponchos to everyone, and as they pass through the streets they give proper tourist information about the places, areas and buildings.

Thanks, Debbie. That a huge help! Really have to start at least thinking about what to pack.

It's so important to read the Navigators to know what's going on when. We've missed things like Castaway Club and DVC Members gatherings because we didn't read or didn't flip through all the things they leave on the bed. Plus I hate having the first sea day full of "errands" and things I want to do rather than having a lazy morning. We may just miss some of these this trip.

As for Edinburgh, we opted to take Disney transportation in because of the distance - and then if something were to happen regarding transportation back to the port, the ship will wait. I have a nervous nellie in my group so we take DCL transportation unless we are somewhere that we can easily manage to get ourselves back - or if we do private transportation, we plan to arrive back at the ship with travel-distance time to spare - so if it's a two-hour trip somewhere, we plan to be back to the ship no less than two hours before sailing - which means we lose time in the city we've been to - but it helps us enjoy the time a bit better. So I was happy to see a DCL transport option for going to Edinburgh.

Is this the cafe: http://www.elephanthouse.biz/ ? We are going to just wander around the castle area after we see the cannon shots at noon and it would be nice to have some "surprise" destinations / fun facts to reveal to the guys. We did this in Vancouver - I had looked up all the things to do in the area and found out about the Steam Clock in Gastown - I knew they would love it so I didn't say anything but just walked us to it and they loved it, especially DH. Zach is my literary guy so I know he'll enjoy seeing where a famous author spent hours writing.

I'm excited to see the ceramic poppies at the church in Kirkwall. https://www.1418now.org.uk/commissions/poppies-weeping-window/

As for Palo Brunch, I suggest going straight to the location where the onboard reservations are being handled to see if you can get a spot. What time do you all have for your boarding? I think we have 11:30 but I'll have to recheck. Zach and I want to do it since he's 18 and it's his graduation trip. Gary and Nathan care nothing about it. Did y'all see Palo changed their dress code?

I missed the dress code change..what is it now for palo? we also check in at 11:30am! so i'll just go to onboard reservations once we board and see what we can do. trying to decide if we should just buy castle tickets on our own. I wonder where the transportation leaves us..how close are we to the castle?
