June 5, 2016 - Magic Goes to England, Ireland, Scotland and France

My niece was in Newcastle last week and she posted a photo of it snowing there. This week she is in Edinburgh and sporting a knit beanie and long coat. Which I'm great with, because I'm from Georgia, U.S. and they heat and humidity has arrived.

Our documents arrived a bit over a week ago. I hate to say that we have so much going on that I've not thought about this trip much at all. I need to give it more attention as the time is coming fast upon us.

We leave in four weeks to begin this journey. My calendar is full. I don't know when I'll have time to pack! Thankfully I think everyone is set on enough clothes to wear - I did make a laundry-day list to know which days we'll plan to do laundry so we know how much to pack for the time we're going without over- or under-packing (I'd rather over- than under-).

Zach has two school days, five more exam days (he's doing one today), a band concert, two banquets, convocation and graduation rehearsals, and convocation and graduation. DH is squeezing in a trip to Kentucky to visit his 93 yr old dad before we leave the country. Nathan is happy to be hanging out at home since he finished the semester last week... I'm depending on him to help with a lot of the prep stuff we have to do at home to leave. Plus is super-busy season at work which has me scrambling to make sure I've got everything done to be gone.

I'm so excited about this trip!

We leave 4 weeks from tomorrow and I don't know when we too will get a chance to do everything.

it's going to be here before we know it!

Having fun preparing for our FE gift exchange! Thinking creative, useful, consumable or packable! :)

I just want to say hopefully you guys get the weather we had this weekend. London was hot and sunny at 25c today, loverly weather.

Of course the UK is changeable, just a week ago we had snow and hail in London.

Summer has come here, hope you get it in a month.

Thanks Disney Fantasy! We are now looking at the weather now though know it changes considerably. Las t time I was in London the sun was out when arriving from Paris and then the rain came for the rest of the time. Preparing for that too!

We had a long cool showery bit in April, but as the month changed so did the weather. From below average, we currently are above average as we have a strong high pressure on us. If you had this next month you would be pleased.

But.... In the UK it changes fast.

ok, I need to get my head around this and put it in my diary. So what day do you actually board the ship? I just have 13 June in my head as thats your Dublin port day.

Also I went down to Dublin port a few days ago and by luck managed to pick a day when there was a cruise ship in. Basically the area is just a cargo unloading area. There are taxis in the area and very likely Disney will organise transport from the ship to the city centre. If you dont want to take Disney transport, you can walk off the ship , along the main road in the port area to the tram stop. I did this walk and it took about 25 minutes. The tram is called LUAS and the tram stop is called Point Depot. If anyone wants more detailed precise information, let me know. I did see quite a number of people walking from the tram back to the cruise ship.

The cruise ship will dock at Branch Road 3, Alexandria Road, Dublin Port

This is what it looks like on Google Maps, thats a cruise ship in dock. There is a security checkpoint, where people have to show a security pass to enter. Taxis and buses if they have a secrity pass can go further in. If you are walking, this is where you will exit from the ship and enter back onto the ship

EDIT.... forgot to say that I spoke to the security guy. He said that you will go through customs and emigration as you leave the ship which usually takes about 30 minutes

Thanks Bad Pink Tink! We depart from Dover on June 5. I am glad that you posted about Customs getting off the ship. That is not normal coming off of a cruise ship for a port stop, but it has happened. Good to know for planning.

This was helpful!

@EpcotKilterFan Its because you are coming from Liverpool which is UK to Dublin which is Republic of Ireland, we are 2 separate countries. It will probably happen again when you go to Le Harve and then when you get back to Dover.

Thanks BadPinkTink - very useful and thoughtful information. Thank you for your input. First hand knowledge is always the best.
Someone asked about packing. For us, that would be a NO. I have ordered a few things, one being a rain jacket and a few more base layer options. If I stay true to how I normally go about packing, I'll leave it til the day before we leave. Crazy I know, but it turns out good in the end. An example would be when we traveled to Paris in April of 2013. We were literally walking out the door, heading to the airport, when my mother called. She wanted to make sure I was taking a jacket. Which I had not packed. Well, after talking with her I threw my flip flops I was wearing in my carry-on and pulled on my UGG boots. I also gathered up my Helly Hanson jacket, 2 Eddie Bauer pull-over's, cuddle duds, and socks and shoved them where ever I could put them. My husband did the same with similar items. I thanked my mother the entire time we were gone. I wore my boots the entire trip and rotated the pull-overs. The temps were way below normal, like low 40's (F) for the high a couple days and windy. So, do as my mother says, take a great jacket, pull-overs, boots, and warm socks and cuddle duds. It may be the only thing you end up wearing, lol.

Also, another tip I'd like to pass that has been helpful to us is a travel adapter. I've got one that has three (3) prong electric outlets and 2 USB ports, all in one adapter. Super handy as they now do not let you take power strips on the ship.

I'm enjoying the anticipation of the trip as I know each of you are. Praying everything goes smoothly so we can all come together on the Zippidy Doo Dah Disney Magic.
