June 3, 2006 - Disney Magic Western Carribean

Welcome aboard Dana :wave2:
I have a dd who is 8.

My DS(7) is Anthony and he is looking forward to going to the Club again. So I am sure he will probably meet your children. He loves to have friends to play with. He is excited about the Ocean Quest area too. He wants to see the pictures that were posted on another thread when he gets home from school today. He has watched the DCL DVD from last year over and over. I think he may have it memorized by now. LOL

Rough seas - My only experience with rough seas was on a Carnival cruise almost 10 years ago. It was when hurricane Opal came through. They kept the ship far enough away that we still had sun, but the ocean was rockin'. My Mom got sea sick for about a day and a half, but the rest of us were o.k. She was able to get Dramamine from guest services. They were handing it out like candy. I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to the movement. Last June on our 4 day DCL it was smooth sailing. Barely any movement at all. My DS didn't even notice we were moving unless he was watching the ocean out of the windows.

Good Morning Everyone. :sunny:

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I know Tammy from PA. is happy with that Steeler win. :cheer2:

Let's play a little planning game. We fast forward about 19 weeks and the ship has just docked at Key West.

What are you doing?

We are going to walk around the town and take in all the sights. I have already been told we are to buy some of the sandels that were mentioned previously. I plan on buying several t-shirts from various bars in Key West. I love t-shirts and spend all of my vacation money on them. I'm not even packing many in anticipation of buying more.

Want to take our picture at the southern most point and see the sunset at Mallory Square. Looking forward to walking on all of the streets that Jimmy Buffett has sung about all these years. :drinking1

Well thats about it. Would love to hear what everyone else plans on doing. :listen:

I was thinking of taking the trolley tour around the island. After checking at their website, you can purchase tickets directly from them that will allow you to get on and off at all of their stops as you go around the island. My DH wants to go to the aquarium. So we may buy tickets from the trolley site for that too.

Hello everyone!

Simbanoodle was right. My family & I were thrilled to see the Steelers win. Last week's game with the Colts sure tested my heart. I'm sure the Superbowl will be the same.

But, oh yes, let's get to our cruise. Being that it's our first cruise, I like hearing other's plans, so it can help me decide. The trolley sounds nice for Key West. I wouldn't mind going to Margaritaville to eat too, see the southernmost point of the U.S., and also buy some t-shirts/souvenirs. I saw that you could rent electric carts to use (similiar to golf carts), but wasn't sure if we could see all that we wanted by the hour. It could get pricey. Anyone ever do this before? Any advice to the best place to eat at Key West? Thanks!! :woohoo:

Hey, I actually saw JB play a concert on Greene St. It was awesome to see him play in KW.

Some things I've enjoyed in the past:

Sunset @ Mallory Square

I own a timeshare that overlooks the sunset....may hit the tiki bar there.

A cool restaurant....Blue Heaven

A funky store close to the Southernmost point.....The Chicken Store

Flying to the Dry Tortugas in a seaplane was the most fun thing I've done there Seaplanes of Key West

Raw Bar....The Half Shell

Key lime pie...The Blonde Giraffe

A great beach...Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

When I think of more I'll post it.

Now after reliving all those KW memories I'm really excited about going. I'm glad I'm going to KW even though I live in FL and have been there many times. Haven't been for 3 years though and I miss it. I'm glad I didn't book the cruise the week before ours that goes to Castaway Cay twice because it doesn't go to KW.

Thanks for sharing legs22. I have never been to Key West and I can not wait. Thanks for all the links and suggestions. :thumbsup2

Howdy -

We will probably do the Duval Crawl again -we've met quite a few interesting folks that way. We will grab a burger at Margaritaville - (they are quite tastey tho not sure if it is truly the taste or just the location!!) and end up at Hog's Breath :drinking1 . Would like to be at Mallory Sq for sunset.

In addition to the conch tour train and Mallory Sq - the Hemmingway house is interesting for those so inclined.

For a good meal I would second the choice of Blue Heaven...although it's been awhile - the food was quite good (Caribbean) and the atmosphere quite interesting (dine outside amonst the chickens!!!)

Personally, I always look forward to this port - always have a good time there!!!

Hi Everyone,

Yes, thank you Legs22 for all the info. and links. Blue Heaven is sounding good to me. It'll be a toss up between it and Margaritaville, but I could always try them both. Anybody ever get any coupons off of Shirley (snelsonbrown) - I think that was her screenname, for Key West? If so, what are some of the coupons you received?

Thanks!

Are kids allowed in Margaritaville and if so is it an appropriate place. My kids love Jimmy Buffett and would love to eat there if it is ok.

Thanks for any help and everyone have a great day.

Hi -
Yes - kids are allowed at Margaritaville. There is also a shop attached that sells Buffet paraphenalia..shirts, glasses, huggies, etc. I usually pick up a shirt to add to my collection there.

Re choosing restaurants - we will hit M'ville for lunch then someplace else for dinner. You could do both M'ville and Blue Heaven (lunch & dinner)as we will be there awhile. If not, I would go for Blue Heaven as it is quite unique. Below is the web site if you would like to check it out.

Hi Simbanoodle,

We visited a Margaritaville, in/around Universal Studios, about 3 years ago and had no problem with our kids who were about 7 and 9 at the time. We had a late lunch there and saw other families with children younger than ours. It may be different later on in the evening, depending upon the local/cruise crowds they get.

:)

Hmmm, I was thinking that we might have to go to Margaritaville for a burger, Blone Giraffe for Key Lime Pie on a stick (has been on the food network many times) and of course to the Kino's for sandles. What else ????? I just can't wait!!

Maybe this was a mistake. All this talk about food is making me HUNGRY. :lmao:

That is why we are all on diets now. My daughters are 8 & 11 and they are as excited as I am. :cheer2:

It's tough to diet when all you can think about is thick cheeseburgers, fried seafood and key lime pie. We havn't even begun to talk about food on the ship.

Everyone will have to take their seasickness pills because while i'm doing my laps on deck four, the ship will list to whatever side i'm on. :rotfl:

Can't wait. Talk to you tomorrow.

Has anyone been to the shipwreck museum? My DH is really interested in going there.

Jen,

Start a thread about the excursions and see what kind of response you get. I think you will be suprised. Trust me, someone out there will know something about it. :thumbsup2
