June 29, 2008 - Magic - West Coast!!!!

We'd love to go to GC the Saturday before the cruise, but the weeks before include a college graduation and back to back work related trips...

I have a feeling that Saturday before will end up being a packing day! And without having to check any bags (since we live so close), who knows what I'll be dragging along! :rolleyes1

Anyway, what other excursions has everyone booked?

Wow,,,, Your first Disney cruise. I remember ours. Seeing the ship is an overwhelming experience. Absolutely AMAZING. Something that you will remember the rest of your life. Also the entrance into the ship. Expect to have your names announced as you enter through the gangway. WOW!!!!!!!! They really do it right. It would be great to meet you guys the night before. Didn't you say that you are also staying at the Grand Californian? I don't know for sure what the plans for us are as of yet, but I do know that we are going to Knotts Berry farm and the water park with our Cedar fair season passes.
I am taking Billy to McDonalds right now. 1AM. He is hungry and yet we need to get up at 6-7 in the AM to go and see Mammaw in southern Indiana.
Have you considered doing the beach thing outside of DCL? The only concern is that there is no guarantee that they will hold the ship if you are late.
Bill

Hi Bill...Well HawaiianMickey suggested we meet at the lounge at the GC (we'll be at PP, but it's only a stones throw away). So continue reading the thread and I'm sure we'll all come up with something :thumbsup2 It'd be great to meet you and your family! How's Mammaw? So Billy sounds like a hungry growing boy! 1am McDonald's runs...Sounds very familiar to my oldest DS. I can't keep that kid fed!! :rotfl2:

Aw, bummer! But it's those work related trips that allow us to pay for our vacations ;) I understand because there are many trips (mostly DL trips :) ) I've had to take my kids on without DH just because of his work. It's torture for him though....he LOVES  DL. Well if things change with your schedule, don't hesitate to stop by :thumbsup2

Hey hawaiianmickey....you had asked earlier in the thread if the DL hotels are able to check us in to the port (or something similar). Did you ever find out for sure? I was just curious since we'll be at PP the night before, and didn't know if concierge would be able to do that for us :confused3 That would be awesome if there was one less thing we had to do at San Pedro :thumbsup2

Aloha
I asked DCL about it and they said they did not know at the time.
I think they are going to do it if you stay on their property and take their transportation. It's probably only available for guests who stayed at the approved hotels that DCL reccomended. (GC,Disneyland Hotel and Paridise Pier)
We got to do this in Barcelona when we did the Med Cruise. We could check in at the DCL desk in the lobby. We signed the paperwork we would need for the cruise, got our transportation tickets to the pier and bag tags to put on our bags. They picked up our bags outside our rooms at the designated times the next morning.
You might give Paradise Pier a call to see if that service is available.
Hope that helps. It would be great for all DCL cruisers who stay on property to check in for the cruise prior to boarding the ship. That will shorten the line for check in at the pier.

aloha,
hawaiian mickey

Thanks hawaiianmickey :thumbsup2 I think I'll call PP and ask the concierge desk...I'll be checking in with them already, so they might offer that service as well. I appreciate your help ;)

Aloha,
Just called DCL an they said there will be a desk at the 3 Disneyland Resort. He said if you booked a package with them you can check in for the cruise there.
Then I ask them if I did not book a package with them , but was staying at one of the resorts could I also check in? He said that was ok also.:woohoo:
hope that helps.

OMG!! Thanks hawaiian mickey!! :worship: That's great news...I'm certain checking in this way will make it much easier at the port :)

Anyone know how late we can get off the ship when we return home to LA?

Our flight doesn't leave LAX until 7:45 pm, so I have to figure out what we are doing.

Aloha,
If they do the same as they do when we get off the ship at PC then it probably be about 0900. Lucky it's a Sunday and you maybe able to go to DL for a few hrs.

We will be in DL for a few days before we leave, so we will skip DL. We are going to get off as late as we can and go to the Aquarium in Long Beach. Killing time as loooooong as we can.

The Aquarium would be cool. We were thinking the same thing...DL beforehand and only a 5 hour drive home. So I think we might do the QueenMary. I did the tour once as a kid, but don't really remember much. Might be fun :thumbsup2

I used to work right there in downtown long beach. The aquarium is a great idea (would you believe I've never been??). Plus they have that little wharf area with shops and restaurants...I recommend Parker's Lighthouse - get the cheese bread...yummy!

OOOOHH! Cheese bread...that even sounds good while I'm sitting here drinking my coffee :surfweb: How far is this area from the port?

not far. You have to drive, of course, but it's at Shoreline Village, which is kind of by the aquarium (in the same area, but on the other side...I know that doesn't make sense, but if you look at a map, the aquarium would be on the north side and shoreline village is on the south side)

Okay, so I ordered a Fish Extender the other day. So if anyone wants to participate, let me know.

We are going to be taking a Towncar from the Airport to the Hotel.
DCL Transfer from The Hotel to the ship.

Then, on the last day with the 10 hour gap between the time we disembark to the time we depart, we are going to rent a car at the port and take it to the Aquarium and then LAX.

DCL said that you can check in to your flight on the ship if you sign up for their transfer from the ship to the airport. Again, I am not hangging at LAX for 9-10 hours. Nope, not doing it.

Two months folks! Let's get pumped!

Wow I'm a thread killer.

You are NOT!!! No thread killers here :) My computer's been offline today...AT&T came out today thinking they were going to install a new 'thing', and the main system wasn't working. So I had to go ALL DAY without my internet   OMG....that was difficult!! So...just got your reply. Anyway, my family might be copying you with the aquarium...hope that doesn't bug you. We're not sure yet though. We're going to decide that final day and it'll depend on our energy level. We may be homesick and need to be home. We won't be able to pick up our baby (Casey, the golden retriever pluto: ) til Monday, so that won't be the issue. We'll see :goodvibes Anyway, June 29th cruisers...Party on!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

No worries about the Aquarium. We figured it would be the lowest of stress things to do on the last day, aside for getting a room and crashing - which is still an option.

A world without Internet service? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

We get a house/dog sitter. Here it is cheaper than boarding the dog.

BTW, our dog's name? Walter Elias

Hey everyone, nice thread. My family and I just got back from our first Magic, Western cruise and loved it. Your going to have so much fun. :)

One problem, on the ship, they were sold out of 2008 DCL Scrapbooks. We would really like to have one. Could anyone be so kind and pick on up for me. I'll pay for any shipping expenses! We have such wonderful memories and would love to save them. I'd be forever in your debt. :worship:

Thanks. Please PM me!
