June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

We bought magnet paper online and then used a color printer. It works perfectly! :)

I"d be careful with printable magnetic paper given the new regulations by DCL. I've always found that the printed magnetic paper smudges and leaves marks on the doors. They are easily cleaned up, IMO. But one never knows with DCL.... I'm not doing magnets this time, too lazy. If I was, I'd laminate them and then put the stick on magnets on the back.

Good thinking! Always gotta be careful. But for those of you that are worried, we used about 30 magnets that were homemade they way I mentioned in a PP or FE gifts over the last few years. Then when we got home, we started a collection of the magnets on our mudroom door and never had any smudging issues, the door stayed clean! I know because we just moved and I had to clean them all off (sad) and the door looked exactly the same as before. So hopefully they will work just fine.

I was going to try it at home first so great!! I believe you;-)

I"ve never had a problem here at home, it's just on the DCL doors.... NO idea why.... The ink sort of come off a bit and leaves streaks on the DCL doors.....

On the Wonder last year the magnets did not stick very well on some of the doors. We were told it was because there are so many layers of paint on the doors. Hopefully we will have better luck on the Magic.

We went on the 7/18/07 Med and there were a few families who also sailed on the July 6th Baltic. It is so much fun to meet new people, and even more fun to sail with each other again. Someone from our 2007 Med cruise was on our Alaska 2011 cruise and we ended up sharing a whale-watching excursion.

Do you ever have trouble explaining to people how you know 40+ families that are sailing with you but you've never met them? LOL. The whole "meet group" / "roll call" concept is foreign to most of the people I know in real life, but it adds so much enjoyment and excitement to our planning and sailing. It's like having instant friends :)

:grouphug:

I got some magnets done today, so between these and the ones we already had, I don't think I'm going to do any more.

It's definitely a hard thing to explain. I think it takes another Disney person to get it.

We print our magnets on cardstock and then laminate them with self-laminaters that we got from Costco or Sams (or you can find them at office supply stores or maybe even Walmart or Target). There are a couple of varieties of them.

Anyway, after we laminate them, we trim them up with just a little laminating edge. Then we have a roll of self-sticking magnetic tape that we will cut and attach once on the ship to stick on the door. We find that's easier than pre-sticking the magnetic tape for traveling because the magnets will stack flatter without the magnets on the back. We have used the magnetic paper before but found it's not as strong on the door as the roll of magnetic tape seems to be.

We have a few magnets from previous trips that we'll bring with us and then those that we've done for this trip (mostly grabbed from designs we have seen on DIS or Google). Not much personalized although we have our DCL name tags with our DIS name that we had someone make for us a bazillion years ago.

I purchased Magnetic paper at Michael's, if you have one, works great. I have made all my magnets like that with an ink jet printer, never had a problem. So fun to decorate your door, sad the day we have to take them off. Maybe the person that had smudges used laser printer or something non compatible. I say print away.

I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait...
Going to be so much fun...
57 more days until we leave for Madrid :cool1::yay::dance3::cheer2:

Me too! Exactly!!!

I think I read a trip report of yours once when you went to Europe with your older boys and your husband met up with you later with the younger ones. You took a train and went through France and Germany and Switzerland? Am I correct? It was a great trip report...
