June 27, 2007 10 Night - The Rodney Dangerfield of Med Cruises

Well, there's no time like the present. So what's on your packing list? DH just got a new high definition video camera. He's so excited. I was thinking the tide to go sticks might be a good thing to throw in.

Karen,
The Tide to Go sticks are my number one packing item. We took the kids to Europe last year for a month (the packing was crazy) but those sticks worked wonders between laundry sessions! I sound like a commercial but... it is one of the best inventions ever.

I also took someone's advise and went to www.minimus.biz and got little things for traveling. Very cute, very little and very cheap. Now I just have to figure out what to wear! We are also going to be in London for a couple of days... not sure if we will make it to a show. Wicked sounds...... wicked!

Enjoy.... be careful there though....last year, my wallet was stolen out of my purse on the London Underground. A man was hassling my daughter and while I attended to her, his wife or partner stole my wallet. Made for a fun ending to our trip... my documents to get home were in there.... Four extra days, waits at the American Embassy... cruddy way to end a great but long vacation. Anyway, when the police took the report, they said it was a typical scam because your number one priority is your kids and it is an easy distracter. Just something to think about.... It still doesn't deter us from going to London.... it is my very favorite place! Well, Barcelona has yet to be seen! ;)

I read on the other threads that tickets, papers, luggage tags arrived three weeks before departure... that means NEXT weekend we should be getting ours... YAY..... now it seems so real!!! Start packing, everyone!

Based on some reviews I've been reading, I finally broke down and bought totable blankets for the plane, some eye blinders to help us sleep, a clothesline for the balcony for bathing suits, etc., various odds and ends. My favorite purchase has been a Casio Exilim s600 camera. Takes video and pictures and at the same time! :thumbsup2 I took it to Disneyworld last week for the flower and garden show, shot about 200 pictures, 10 videos about 5 minutes each and with the 2 GB card, STILL have PLENTY of room for more! I was thinking of getting a camcorder but this really takes excellent video. I hooked it up to the TV for playback and it looked great.
I just bought an Olympus Stylus 740 7.1 Megapixel & 5X Optical zoom + Digital for a total of 28X in a ultra compact!:cool1: it also will do movies I agree smaller is better pack less enjoy more!

Karen, I don't know about the tide sticks but I've seen the cubes that come 2 to a pack and you break it up a little when you put it in the wash. THose work great, I used them for my last cruise. Fergi
How about buying detergent in Barcelona!

I have one that I can wear around my neck and tuck into my shirt. I carried it all over Italy 2 years ago and had no problems. I don't even think I took a purse. I need to put that on my packing list. I got a lot of these type of things at KMart for our last trip. They have a pretty good travel section.

I have a Casio Exilim and a Nikon Coolpix 4600,and they are both going because the Nikon runs on batteries and I am not sure I will be able to charge the Casio in France.

I have a friend who is on the med cruise and he is blogging for Passporter.

Now I need to go out and spend some of the credit I got when we downgraded to a cat 12.

Well the Mail came. I got 5 out of 6 passports!:cool1:  :woohoo:

Missing is my DW's oh well I get the bedroom to myself.;) :lmao:

Hope it's in the mail on Tuesday!:scared1: :headache: :rolleyes1

Hi all!!!

I was just checking the board for the repo cruise that just finished. It looked like a few of them had some flight trouble getting back. One said the Barcelona airport can be difficult. We don't have any tight connections. We're flying from Barcelona to London, spending the night and then flying to Orlando, spending a day at Blizzard Beach and then heading home. I guess even when flying within Europe we still need to be there very early. Let's hope we all have better luck getting back home than some of the repo cruisers.

Could you post a link or give us the web info?

Our flight out of Barcelona is 12:25 we should be at the airport by 11AM no problem it is only 1/2 hour away and traffic shouldnt be a problem on a Saturday.

Jason and I had literally the MOST AWFUL RETURN TRIP.....seriously we've never had such a bad experience travelling...it almost makes me never want to get on a plane again! First of all....the Barcelona airport is a NIGHTMARE!!!! (So all you folks who've been lurking on this thread as you prepare for Med cruises or the August Repo.....TAKE HEED.....BCN airport is really poorly organized and crowded and confusing.....make sure you allot PLENTY of time before your flights!). We were supposed to fly from BCN to Dublin then on to Chicago then on to Orlando. Our flight out of BCN was an hour late....AND the computer system at BCN is not able to print you boarding passes for every leg of your trip....only the first leg....so we landed in Dublin with no boarding passes for the next leg of our trip but less than an HOUR layover....luckily the airline recognized the issue and actually shuffled a whole group of us through the back way in the airport so we wouldn't miss our connecting flight....so we got on board the flight took our seats and were informed that the entire traffic control communication system over the northern Atlantic was out of commission and we'd have to wait to take off....so we sat in the plane....for OVER 2 hours....only to have them then announce that the problem was unresolved so we were going to take a different, and less direct, route....so rather than flying across the Atlantic we flew up over Scotland, then over Iceland and Greenland and then over and down through Canada.....which took forever....and we missed our connecting flight to Orlando....which apparently was the last flight out tonight so they booked us in a hotel and rebooked us for a 7am flight tomorrow.....only the hotel they sent us to first wouldn't accept the airline vouchers so they had to move us to a DIFFERENT hotel....only the shuttle that was supposed to come get us took over an hour to get here...and by this time our body clocks were still on Barcelona time and it was past midnight in our minds so we just broke down and took a cab to this hotel.....this GROSS hotel....and I think I'd rather sleep in the laundry room on the Magic!!! AAARGHH! What a crappy trip! OK....off to bed now to get up in a few more hours for an early morning flight to WDW to try to salvage a magical weekend!

This was on the DISboard for the May 12 repositioning cruise. There are more posts there.

There's also a thread around here with somebody who didn't make the med cruise because they lost a passport before their flight. I think they got it back. Apparently dropped it while pulling money out of a pocket to pay for something at Starbucks.

They rebooked and are going on a different med cruise.

Hi,
Im on this cruise. Can I join in on the fun? thanks Luciann .... STill looking for the link to cheri website....

My cruise roommate says the sailaway is right in the middle of dinner...if we're going to meet up, maybe we should do it earlier since the all-aboard is at 5 PM apparently...the current cruisers say there is a deck party...maybe we could pick out a section of deck and meet at the party.

I just can't wait for the first group to get back and post Navigators! They return to Barcelona June 5 from their 11 night. The first 10 day returns June 15.

Arggggg

Just saw POC3 Good Movie (I liked it anyway) long sit.:happytv:

Im all for a meet & greet before dinner.
