June 2023 Car Rental

Every so often, I go into Autoslash and request the cheapest car for our time period. Since most rates are through Priceline, there’s an option to check for other cars. Twice, I’ve been able to get a lower rate for our standard SUV. This time, our rate is down to $351, a $16 drop. I’m happy with this as I was expecting it to be in the $450 range. Of course, I’ll keep checking, right up until we leave.

I have been doing the same. I had a full-size for $298. But was able to get a standard SUV for $309 (previously $325) this morning so I switched to that. The lower prices are very random. I check multiple times a day with no change and then suddenly I will find a lower price but it is usually gone very quickly.

Why don't you just have Autoslash track the rental price you already have? Then they email you immediately if they find a lower price on your car class and you usually have 12 hours to rebook at that price.

I do, but I recommend checking occasionally by submitting a new request. While tracking has found lower prices, I’ve found 2 lower prices, including my current rate, by putting in a new request.

After I replied to you, I decided to check Autoslash again. I was able to save another $5 on our rental. We’re now down to $346 on our standard SUV rental through Hertz. The Autoslash tracker hasn’t emailed me on the lower rate.

Just got my 11-day trip down to $338 through Hertz for a mid-size SUV, which as it turns out has more cargo space than the standard SUV based on the models that are listed. It's nice to see the prices continue to drop. Only another 11 days to go, so we'll see if they keep dropping.

I checked again with Autoslash and reduced my rental for a standard SUV down to $337 from Hertz. That’s a $9 drop from my previous low and over a $700 drop from my first reservation for a 10 day rental.

Glad some of you are finding lower rates. I’m 8 days out and haven’t found a reduction for several days. I’m still good at $309 for a mid SUV for 10 days.

Booked 8 days economy car through Costco today for $301 with Budget. Will keep looking as I don’t love Budget.

Booked 8 day manager's special through AAA with Dollar for $240 (free cancellation). I feel like I won the lottery, even though I don't love Dollar, either.

Checked Autoslash this morning. Previous 10 day mid size SUV with Hertz for $309. Now have a full size with Thifty for $240. I prefer Hertz cars but the price was too good to pass up. I rented with Thrifty my last trip with no issues. So excited for this rate!

I just checked rates again and saved another $3 on our reservation. We’re now down to $334 for our standard SUV from Hertz. I added the reservation to Autoslash reservation tracker and it found an offsite rental for $299. It’s not worth it to me to take a shuttle.

I always go in and change the preferences to only show the 10 companies on site.

Another reduction. Thrifty direct using blue chip discount. $214 for 10 days in full-size. I’m less than a week out if that helps anyone gauge when the discounts are the best. My dates are 5/28-6/7.

I thought I posted yesterday that I got our rental down to $326 for our Hertz standard SUV. Well today, I ran a new Autoslash check and I’m now down to $312. I never expected to see rates below $400 with the way my search started, so I’ve been surprised and happy to get such a low rate. A word of caution, Autoslash’s price tracker doesn’t pick up some of these price drops, so you should occasionally submit a new request.

Well, Autoslash came through and found another price drop. I’m now down to $305 for our Hertz standard SUV rental. This is for June 1-10. Autoslash also found a rental for $221, but this was for an offsite rental and I really don’t want to deal with a shuttle both ways. I wonder if we’ll see a sub $300 before we leave.

I'm now getting $260 for my 11 days (May 31-June10) for a standard or mid-size SUV (same price) through Autoslash at Thrifty. Does anyone have experiecne with Thirfty at MCO?

I used Thrifty last December. The only issue I had was that the attendant upgraded me to an SUV (I didn’t ask for it, that is just what he assigned) but when I was going through the gate, the lady made me go back though and acted like I was trying to get away with something. I told her this is the car they assigned but she made me go back around and get the midsize. When the original worker asked me what was going on and I told him, he said she was mad at him and was trying to embarrass him.

Having said that, there were no issues with the car, I was charged what I was quoted, and the experience was good beyond that. I am also using Thrifty when we arrive this weekend because the rates are lower by a large margin. I previously had Hertz at $297 and thought that was a pretty good deal until I found Thrifty at $214. I used Thrifty on 2 other trips and it was fine too.

I've used Thrifty at MCO, no major issues, slightly slower than using Hertz, National, Enterprise but still much better than the offsites.
If booking Thrifty through Autoslash, make sure the booking receipt has your Blue Chip number on it. Thrifty won't add it after the booking is done and the Priceline engine seems to have an issue sending it with the reservation. I had to rebook and cancel a few times before mine showed up.

And also check the Thrifty site directly. I’m getting the same price using my blue chip discount as I am on Autoslash so l booked direct to avoid any possible issue.

`Good tip, thank you and EACarlson. I was getting nervous after reading the google and yelp reviews for Thrifty at MCO. I will definitely cancel my booking through Autoslash and book directly through Thrifty.
