June 18, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

For those of you that live in the U.S. Our first full sea day, Sunday June 19th is Father's day. Is anyone planning anything special for your DH? It is also formal night

Trying to figure out how to celebrate

I booked "Alone Time" at the spa for my DH. It's a nice treat and on a sea day the view will be amazing. Other than that, we'll probably "let him" make all the decisions about where and what to do that day ;)

same dilemma but my husband's bday is the next day.
All I have found for birthdays is that you can order a gift package (decorations, etc?)
DH birthday is on the 22nd,
I let DCL know so we will see what happens
you always hear Happy Birthday been sang at dinner everynight
think you can order a birthday cake

its DS birthday the day after the cruise so busy time for us

wonder will DCL do anything for Fathers day ?

Just let your server know about the birthday and they will bring you a small personalized cake. I told our server several days before the birthday but I don't know if you need to or if they could do it same day. A group of servers came to the table to sing.

EDIT: I just saw this on the main board. We were on the Magic this year over New Years but things may have changed since then http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2691350.

Cars 2 is scheduled for release in theaters in the US on June 24, 2011 and in the UK on July 22, 2011 wonder will they be showing it onboard The Magic

We'll be sailing with you on this cruise so I thought I'd stop by and say hello!
I'm Charyl Lee, DH's Jeff, we have 2 DD's, Paige 15, and Jade 12. The girls birthdays are in April, but due to being stationed in a remote location overseas we will be celebrating Paige's "Sweet 16" princess: and Jade's 13th princess: (teen) birthdays on the cruise. And now it looks like Father's day pirate: also!

My kids and I were wondering the same thing. Last year, they did a "Premier" on the ship when Toy Story 3 was released, so I bet they do the same thing for us. Yay!

They should "Premear" it on the ship the day it is realeased in the US. We were fortunate enough to be on the Magic the day Finding Nemo was released, it was a nice treat. We got a cute little pin that said, "I saw it first at sea" I wonder if they will be giving any trinkets out for Cars 2?

Ok, so most of us have them...

I have a dd15 :cool1: and a dd11  at time of the cruise,

anyone else have girls of similar ages that might want to swap email(s)?:thumbsup2

PM me and we'll see what we can do...:yay::yay:

Thanks

Hi all, sitting here waiting for the system to recognize I can do online checkin - so odd that you can do excursion reservations, but not that, they are somehow unlinked. I was very bummed that we didn't get two of our first choice excursions - Jumping back into Eternal Rome was completely booked (liked the idea of taking a train vs. longer bus ride), and we couldn't get the beach trip in Ajaccio so I think we're just going to do it on our own, nothing else really appealed. :sad2:

For those of you first time cruisers who weren't crazy like me to get up in the middle of the night, there are still plenty of Palo dinners. :thumbsup2

Waiting, waiting :surfweb:, guess online checkin doesn't really matter, no one is rushing to the port in Spain the way they are at Port Canaveral, but now my adrenaline is up!

I think my husband and I are going to do "Mysterious Palermo" without the kids - anyone else doing that, or are we completely bad parents for even considering it? It doesn't seem like we're far away from the ship, and it's only 1/2 day....

we have dd 15 also.... live in charlotte, nc

We were also up at midnight. Wanted Eternal Rome also, everything else was available. We may also try beach on our own.

Do not feel bad al all for leaving your children to do an excursion, especially a DCL one. They take great care of them, and any time we gave our ds4 the option to go to the club he took it. We had to about drag him out of there most of the time, unless we told him he was going to the pool. :)

FYI Corsica on your own is simple, you'll have a great time. You can also take a train into Rome on your own and I don't know how many people are aware of this, but there are lots of tour guides around that do on the spot tours. They hang around near the Vatican. I believe my dh and I paid 50 euro for a 4 hour tour of everything, our tour guide was very knowlegable and friendly. He was an art history major and seemed to know everything.

JNS-

Please add us to the FE list as well. We've never done this before, but I think that my kids will love to participate! We have 2 adjoining staterooms- will you need our cabin numbers closer to the date?

Way back earlier in this thread, I posted a question about cell phones. I found out from our provider- Verizon- that for about $9, we can 'rent' phones from them- they ship us the internationally ready phones, they use our same current phone number, and we pay a different rate in each country for calls (it's around $1 a minute most places), but to receive texts is only 5 cents and to send a text is 50 cents. This way we can check in with family back home or each other if we go off on separate excursions or leave the kids on the ship. Just thought others might be interested- our current phones can not be used internationally and I have aging parents at home that I worry about when I can't hear from them every few days.

Also- we were interested in the Turkish Schooner excursion offered through Disney but it had age restrictions- our 2 youngest kids are not able to go- so I found a company that rents private charter boat tours for the whole day to tour around the island, provides lunch and takes you to the Blue Grotto and to Comino to anchor and swim. If anyone is interested- it was about 450 E- 600 E for the day depending on the size of the boat you choose. It is Malta Yacht Charters.

sisterville - Thank you so much for the Verizon information - that's really helpful since I'm a Verizon customer too.

OK will I add you as one or two staterooms

FE list updated here

I thought I saw one port that was offering Horseback rides on one of the tours. I promised them I would ask but I can't see going all the way to Italy to ride a horse........

Welcome, skeegan, great to have you aboard! :) This is our first cruise in the Mediterranean, too! I'm hoping to do the Alaska cruise at some point, too, but Europe was destination #1 for us as well.

same here! Alaska is on our bucket list, especially with Disney running the ship! It was to hard to resist the price for the Med. :cool1:

Just a little 411 for those looking for detergent to pack in order to do laundry onboard. I found this at walmart in the HBA section where the travel toiletries are located.
The Purex 2 In 1 flat pack of laundry deteregent and fabric softener sheet.
There are 2 per pack, you follow the directions, place it in the wash, add the clothes, then transfer the clothes and sheet into the dryer.
Works like a charm and is the width of a fabric softener sheet, so great for travel.
I think they were only $1.00

:laundy:

hope this helps,
Bonnie
