June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

Did anyone else find the meals not particularly good on the Magic this time, we were most disappointed and are writing to Disney to express this. Felt sorry for the servers having to serve the meals up knowing they were not a good Disney standard.
Bren

Not us. Sure, there were a few dishes/desserts that I thought were just OK but overall I thought the food was very good.

Hi Jeff! Love your blog! How in the world did you find the time to do this? Reading it makes me want to go back.

My take on the food - above average most nights, but not fabulous (except Palo). I love fish, but I thought most of the fish dishes were overcooked. My neighbor just got back from a Scandanavian cruise and said the food was horrible, so I feel pretty lucky.

Jodie

Gees I guess everyone feels different. We thought this time the food was better than the last time. I never think the fish is one of their better items.

PJ WOW! I hope everything goes well for you & your sister in Orlando. That's a wonderful (& warm) city to live in!
Sue
Thanks! We arrived last night around 9pm and I'm working on the job thing. And yes, it has been quite warm! Not as bad as Pompeii though...

Lauren..I wish we lived closer, we'd definately come and visit at WDW if we did!

Steph
Hey, I'm sure you've got lots of DVC points, come see us! There's a Tarzan here too ya know!

Just wanted to say welcome home everyone

Sounds like everyone had a great cruise

Kara and I are still pouting that we ended up stuck at home

but we have almost everything rescheduled at this point

Doing London/Disneyland Paris for spring break end of next March and currently on the 12/27/08 Western Caribbean cruise - but hoping DCL goes somewhere cool for summer of 09
So sorry it didn't work out for you. I can't even imagine how much of a bummer that must have been. Glad to see you've got some fun stuff planned now though!

Booklover and Jim....WOW!!! That is absolutely AWFUL. I can't believe y'all had to go through that. I was exhausted after getting off the flight from Barcelona. If I was told I couldn't get a flight home then that might have put me over the edge. Glad everyone's finally home and safe.

We really came out of the travel situation very well. Didn't necessarily think so at the time, but have nothing even close to anything like some of you have had. We had the weather delays also in Boston. Instead of a 3 hr. layover, we ended up having about a 7 hour layover. Of course we were tired and that seemed like a long time to wait, but we were in the airport (not sitting on the tarmac like many others) and able to go get food and bathrooms at anytime. Sleep was still a bit hard to come by. And a big plus was that Iberia (the luggage losing airline) managed to get all of our bags to us both ways. We were quite impressed.
We all certainly had a great time and are so glad to have gotten to know so many wonderful people. It was great to run into all of our new friends whereever we would go.
I do have to agree with Skallywag about the food - We didn't think it was as good as usual either. Except Palo's - which is always fabulous. Maybe we just got bad seats to end up getting poor food. I don't think I ever had any desserts that weren't good. Even if I didn't eat much of the meal, I always wanted dessert. Too bad that on second seating, you have to leave before dessert to go to the evening activities. Not like I needed it anyway.
I think I've done my last load of cruise laundry today! :laundy: :laundy: Too bad laundry never is completely done for long.:headache:

My take on the food was that it was great but I do admit that I have very little to compare it to since this was only my second cruise. I am a vegetarian and allergic to bell peppers and squash. Most vegetarian dishes have bell peppers in them in some form so I am very complicated to find food for. Every night our waiter would come over and talk to me and come up with something I wanted to eat and then have it made for me. The second night he even had me make a list of all the food I eat so that he could give it to the chef to work with each night. I was so impressed with the waitstaff because I'm used to just eating what I can, not having food specially made for me. My family really enjoyed the food too. It sounds like we got lucky!

I am off to an interview. Everyone think happy thoughts.

I got a job!!!! :woohoo: I am going to be a hostess at Chef Mickey's!! They offered me housekeeping, quick service food and beverage or hostess. I picked hostess and then they offered me Chef Mickey's, Yacht Club Galley, or Boatright's at Port Orleans Riverside. Last time we stayed at Riverside Boatright's was always dead so I was going to pick that but my sister mostly works at Magic Kingdom in the grotto so it'll be better for carpooling if I'm at the Contemporary. I start Monday.

As many times as we've been to Disney I've actually never eaten at Chef Mickey's so that'll be new to me. I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks, John! Sounds like everyone likes Chef Mickey's, maybe I'll have to actually try it some time!

I finally feel like I am caught up on my sleep. My trip going home was really awful. When we got off the ship the service we were using to drive us to the airport was not anywhere in sight. I tried to call them and could not get a hold of anyone. So, Disney put me on the bus. I was so glad. We got to the airport and could not find Continental. We finally found Continental and were the last family to get checked in to the flight. We then had to get to the gate. We just made it on the plane. So we took off and flew to Newark. Well, 7 hours later the pilot announces that we must land in Boston because the plane does not have enough fuel in it to circle the Newark airport. The Newark airport had bad weather and they were not landing planes. So we landed in Boston and sat for several hours in the plane. They gave us water and told us we could use the bathroom. We then took off and flew to Newark. When we landed in Newark we had to get our luggage. So we went to get our luggage. The luggage belt broke. So we had to wait while they fixed the luggage belt. They finally fixed the luggage belt and we got our luggage. We took the luggage to the next station and found out our flight to San Francisco had already left. So we had to wait in line to get another flight booked. Well, all of the flights were sold out till the next night. So it is now 12 at night in Newark and we have to wait till the next night for a flight. The lady then told us they would put us up in a hotel. So we took our luggage and headed for the transporation to the hotel. We finally got to the van and this man drove us over 30 miles to the hotel. When we got to the hotel it was sold out. So he then continued to drive us to another hotel. The hotel was really dirty. We had vouchers to eat but my husband said it was really dirty and of course I would not even look. So we went to bed. In the morning we got up and went back to the airport. We checked our luggage. It was over the weight limit. But, the man must of felt sorry for us when I told him our story. So we then ate in the airport and waited all day for our 6 flight. When we finally got on the plane to fly home we were told that the weather was getting bad and we had to wait in the plane for the next couple of hours before we could take off. When we finally took off the pilot said he could not fly direct and he would be need to divert the plane. So we flew up North and then South. So I guess we got a tour of the United States. At that point I did not care I just slept. We landed in San Francisco at 12 A.M. I was so tired I could not remember the hotel we stayed in when we left. So I did not know how to find our car. My husband called the Holiday Inn and asked them if we stayed at this hotel when we left. We then got our car and drove home. We got home at 3:30 A.M. on Friday morning. So I guess we had a very interesting flight home. We got home safely and the luggage was all in one piece. I have unpacked and washed everything and have started cleaning each of my rooms. Washing walls and all of the blankets. So I guess life is back to normal. Next week I go back to work.
It was really nice meeting everyone and having such a wonderful cruise. We are booked on the October 6th cruise. My son does not know yet. We are going to tell him when he comes home from school on October 5th.

Congrats Lauren on the Disney job!:mickeyjum :mickeyjum You will be a great hostess with that great smile of yours. :goodvibes What a summer adventure!

Thanks so much!

Mickeyteachers...sorry to hear of your airport "adventure." I just can't believe all these stories that are coming in! :scared1: I feel so bad for you guys but at least you made it home in one piece.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

Hope everyone has a great 4th! :cheer2: What is everyone doing to celebrate? Sister and I are going to 'Ohana for dinner and then we might be brave and go into the Magic Kingdom to see the special fireworks or we might just watch them from the beach of the Polynesian. What's everyone else up to?

Congrats Lauren!:cool1: :cool1:

You are going to have a wonderful summer! We are having some neighbors over to barbeque....a little nervous about the weather, we could definitely get some thunderstorms later.

Back to the kitchen!:goodvibes

Marie

PJ, aren't you supposed to be unpacking?????

My family is coming over today for a cookout which is really an excuse to see our pictures. Mike has put together a slide show to play on our TV. It has music, text, the works - kinda funny in an over the top sort of way.

I was thinking today that I would love my kids to do what you're doing when they get older. How fun it would be to work for Disney for the summer. I met a retired couple the last time we were at Disney who work at the Beach Club pool. They only work part time - just handing out towels and directing guests and such. They were so cute - and so relaxed and happy. They said that they lived in Orlando for part of the year - worked for Disney only 2 or 3 days / week. I think they only made about $7 an hour, but I guess its all they needed, being retired and all. They said that they were bored not working. I have to admit that their situation was very appealing to me - especially since my hubbie is so stressed out about work half the time - yuck!

How far away from Disney are you guys? How many hours will you work?

Jodie

I keep trying to convince my son to work for Disney and go to college. He thinks I am nuts. I would love to work for Disney.
I wish I could see Disney fireworks. But, that is not possible. So we will check out the fireworks from our neighborhood. My husband is going to barbeque and then we will light a few fireworks and then watch the neighbors fireworks. But, during the day I am going to clean the play room. Not fun, but needs to be done.
My mom is in Nebraska so I guess I will not see her today and my mother and father in law are on vacation on the East coast. So it will be my husband and our two children celebrating the 4th of July.
Have fun everyone.
