June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

Hi Brian,

Thanks for all of the hard work. I just ordered my DD the Kids Hoodie. She is really excited.

I ordered the Women's Raglan Hoodie for myself, it came last week, & I love it. If it's not to hot, I am going to wear it on the boat.

I off to work.

Thanks again

Patricia

This topic is making my head hurt too, but I did find some more information that I'm passing along . . .

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34961397

So i read that article..and I guess my question is...most atms charge a trans. fee of up to 2%, is the exchange fee usually more than that?
I will post after I go to my local amx office this weekend with any information.
Additionally, I have looked around at my banks here in the SF Bay area. I bank with 2 major banks and 1 credit union and none of them have exchange at any local branches. One offers mail service, but there is a fee for this service. All of my banks (including the one I use for work) referred me to amx..funny enough. Said it was less expensive. We'll see. Please keep us informed if anyone gets a good deal somewhere....

I thought this group may find this interesting - I was just fooling around on the DCL site and put our cruise date in to see what was available and what price. I couldn't believe what came up for Cat. 12! For 2 adults and one 7 yr old child it is listed as $3,965.03! This is without air or insurance but WOW! They must be really trying to fill the boat up! There was a big jump from a 12 to 11 price and up plus there were only gty. rooms for cat 12. If I wasn't already booked, this would sure tempt me!

Thanks Brian for loading up the logo tonight -- (5) variety of shirts ordered for our family. Thanks Purtypat for the coupon code. Our cruise is full of wonderful kind people and I am looking forward to meetiny all of you.

John

Ah well - missed the shirts yet again - as I was working.... Oh well - hopefully next time....

Hi all and welcome disney fans!
My dd has been sick the last few days..so I have spent my time doing some additional research...getting closer to being done (well, never done but more confident).

We are Stephanie and Taylor DD9 leaving 6/13 flying SFO to Heathrow (virgin) then changing to Iberia for final leg to barcelona. Arrive 6/14 staying at Barcelona Universal. All of our pre-cruise barcelona is on our own. I have several key sites mapped out from our hotel. My multi day metro card purchased! Our hotel is very close to the port in the montjuic (sp?) area.
After the cruise we are going to paris for 3 days. Probably spending thursday at DLP. I know there are others post cruising at DLP..
We have late seating dinner. Staying in 6003.

I hope that we will be *dreamed* an upgrade or that they are offering them for super cheap onboard! When I called to check on an upgrade to balcony from at cat11 it was 4k...uh no way!~

I was the one that posted about being no surcharge on board. That is what the DCL CM stated. She said it would be at the exchange rate. I don't know if that is current day or a specific day.

I am still stumped on what to bring cash wise..I think I will go to AMX on saturday and see what their surcharge is on the exchange. There really aren't too many places to get euros around here. (Without ordering) www.travelex.com is an online exchange. They are the currency places at most airports. They do offer a AAA discount. In case anyone is interested.

BTW.. we are taking the metro from the airport to our hotel. It's supposed to take 35 minutes and cost around 10e. We'll see.....

Steph

Thanks so much for you help and tips!!!

:scared1:
The best airfare we found was on Iberia from Boston to Barcelona. :thumbsup2 Unfortunately we live in Houston so we are going on continental to Boston then Iberia to Barcelona. We booked directly on Iberia’s web site (that was the cheapest way we could find). Good luck

I almost forgot: we are also staying at Casa Camper 14th to 16th

Thanks!! Right now we were able to hold and use most of are FF miles been saving for years!LOL But could only get DFW-Chi-London and then we still need to buy tickets from London to BCN. Then on the way back it is from BCN to Paris!! yea, but can only stay one night due to flights, and then back to JFK, again have to stay a night and then back the next day to DFW, and not forgetting we still need to buy a flight from BCN to Paris. Alot of hotels are booked in Barcelona, we will keep working on it!! It is driving me:headache: to a really bad headache!!!

Me too. Too slow!! Maybe next time.
You are too funny! Unfortunately, I don't have any money left after paying for this trip to forward you the "consultation fee" - ha ha! (you need to be a travel agent)!!

I think I might just take my chances with a cab. The hotel website says that cabs run about 21 Euros from the airport to the hotel. Hopefully all 4 of us can fit with all our junk.

I just e-mailed the hotel about checking in early - haven't heard back from them yet. Have you asked them about that yet?

-Jodie

Oh well, I will accept rum runners as payment if that works for you. ;) We are only doing the hotel's transportation for that one leg of the trip. Other than that we are just doing cabs. I guess we'll just be spoiled that one time. Plus we'll probably need help with luggage. Do you know what you're doing in Barcelona yet? I emailed the hotel for tour options but they haven't been back to me yet.

Random, but I just lost over 1,000 of my posts.

Hi All -

Brian - if you have time to post again next week that would be great! Totally forgot about it - was blubbering over the "American Idol Gives Back" show tonight:sad:

Disney Fans - I used to live in Allen!! Now we are in AUstin - we are on Delta.

leaving 6/7 on ABD London /Paris and then flying in 6/16 on Air France.

A friend of mine just got back from Italy - said cokes were $4.00 each, but the Lemonhello was cheap and very good:thumbsup2

Disney Fans, Wow! I read your e-mail twice, and I'm still not sure I understand. No wonder your head hurts! There was a hotel I found when I was booking things a while back that was a FIND (the rooms held 4) and it didn't come up on lots of websites. I'll see if I can find it again.

Taysmom, From what I read on the link I posted, people were saying that the only fee the ATM will charge is whatever your bank charges you, but NO additional bump of the exchange fee (or very little anyway). People were saying the AMEX increased the exchange rate by 8%, as do most banks here is the States. I think that what we'll do is go ahead and get about $100 here (maybe AAA), and then go to an ATM in the airport when we get to Barcelona. This seems to be what most folks that have travelled are recommending. Also, I think its important to call your bank to let them know you will be withdrawing funds internationally so they don't suspect fraud and block the transactions. This whole discussion has prompted me to go get another credit card. Other than our Discover (which isn't honored most places in Europe), we only have 1 Visa. I think to be safe, we should have another.

PJ, we really haven't planned "tours" in Barcelona. I purchased a book that I have skimmed. I have an idea of about 4 or 5 places I'd like to see, but we're gonna play it by ear. I need to see how quickly my kids bounce back from the jet lag. The tourist bus sounds like a good option though. I like the idea of being able to hop on and off whenever we want to. I got a couple of restaurant suggestions from the cruise critic sight (Les Quinze Nits, The Attic - both on Las Ramblas) so I'm psyched to try those.

Just wondering if you can purchase Euro travellers cheques as used to used them a lot (US$ ones) when travelling to your country and found them to be excellent value and you know what money you have available.

We have just purchased a few Euros and have put money on our shipboard account. If we need anything else will use our credit card for that.
Just thinking I must top up my phone before I travel. Dont use it much only just in case our daughters need to make contact.

The bed in one of our spare bedrooms is covered in bits that I need to sort and pack eventually by the look of it will not have room for it all and will have to wear some of it in double layers.

We are flying in from LGW on the 15th and land about 12.30 and staying at the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos for the night.

Disneyfans can you add a hotel stay onto your cruise? Disney used to have rooms open :flower3:

I talked to DCL yesterday, and all they had for rooms was wait list?? I said," Wait list- who could be on wait list to go on a trip and not know if you have a place to sleep for the night traveling with young kids??? Thats crazy???LOL"" She said thats all they have.

So, we
1) need hotel for the 15th and think I see one or two but not sure if hotel is ok?? Or ok area to stay in? My DH says some areas are fine to stay in in Barca but others like any where are not safe to stay in.
2) Still working on air fare between London and Barca to match the FF miles tickets we could get.
3) Still working on air fare between Braca and Pairs to match again the FF miles tickets we could get.
4) London- I am pretty sure thats going to work out for the night for hotel, I have been there before so know that is possible from what I have seen open for rooms.
5) DH has to make sure he can be off work that long due to a on going project he is working on.

Boy I sound like a Big mess!LOL:rotfl:
But we are sure thinking this trip would be great deal if we can get everything together!!! I have been on the net alot!!:surfweb: trying to work this all out!! DCL couldn't really help with anything and even my AAA agent just seems like no help there either, so have to do it ourself.LOL
But also want to thank you all for helping us also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
