June 15 looking better and better for California to "Open Up"

An update on Orange County, California (home county of the Disneyland Resort):

From Sprectrum News 1, Orange County, California:

"Orange County's weekly averages for COVID-19 metrics will keep it in the orange tier of the state's economic re-opening system, although it meets two of three categories for the least-restrictive yellow tier, according to figures released Tuesday.

The county's weekly averages for adjusted daily case rate per 100,000 residents improved from 2.8 last Tuesday to 2.6.

The county's positivity rates qualify for the yellow tier, but the case counts are still in the orange tier.

The county reported just 90 new cases and six deaths on Tuesday.

The number of COVID-19 patients in county hospitals increased from 115 on Monday to 128

The overall test positivity rate remained at 1.4%. The county's Health Equity Quartile rate, which measures positivity in hotspots in disadvantaged communities, increased from 1.7% to 1.9%.

The county's positivity rates qualify for the yellow tier, but the case counts are still in the orange tier.

A graduation into the yellow tier requires that the case rate must get below 2 per 100,000 people. The weekly averages are updated on Tuesdays, and a county must maintain metrics for a tier for two weeks before graduating to a less-restrictive level."

I stopped paying attention for a moment to OC... bummer that they're still not in the yellow tier.

But with the tiers being booted out June 15th guess they just have to hang on awhile longer... I don't see Disneyland opening the floodgates capacity wise anyways when that happens. An increase sure but not to full capacity.

UPDATE : As of today, Los Angeles County has been upgraded to "yellow" status, the last tier before "no restrictions". Orange County (Disneyland) is still in the "orange" tier, but is getting much closer to "yellow" (you need to have only 2 new daily cases per 100,000 people, and The OC is at 2.4).

California counties are re-tiered every Tuesday, so the next update should be May 11. The target is "opening California" June 15.

Does this have any impact on out of state people? (I'm guessing no)

The out of state restriction is tied to the tiers which Newsom says will be tossed out on June 15th.

But OC moving closer to yellow still means good things all around! All the data there is looking good too. 🤞

LA has much higher numbers than OC, but because they are testing so much, they get an adjustment to yellow. OC is having issues testing enough people to have that help adjust the case rate down. But, on paper, using actual numbers, OC is in better shape than LA. It's good news all around, really.

Current speculation on other threads is that June 15 (California governor’s “California re-opening”) is looking more likely for out of state guests, due to the fact that Disney is opening up the Paradise Pier hotel on that same date.

right now this connection is just *speculation*, so, you know, grain of salt...

I would bet money on it at this point.

I think if June 15th is the date, they’ll have to announce it very soon (within the next week) to give time for visitors to make concrete plans.

I doubt any formal announcement by Disney about allowing out-of-state visitors will be made without the state making an announcement first. While we often know an announcement like this is coming, the formal announcement of a policy change isn’t usually made until a few hours or sometimes a few days before the policy change is implemented. Since June 15th is a Tuesday and tiers are usually reassessed on Tuesdays, it is likely the formal announcement from the state will come on June 15th, with the governor giving some sort of confirmation a day or two beforehand that the policy change is for sure coming. I doubt Disney will make any changes to their own policies much before this.

Oh I agree. I’m just wondering how out of state visitors would be ready to go on June 15 with no notice lol maybe people are going to be visiting the area just hoping it’ll be open? But good luck to anyone getting reservations that same week, unless they already reserved when they technically shouldn’t be? Idk, I’m a CA resident who is going before June 15th, thankfully, so it doesn’t affect me- but the speculation is interesting.
