June 15, 2012 - 2 Night Getaway on the Disney Magic from NYC!

Dh and me will be onboard, I just booked last week. We are celebrating my 50th birthday.....no kids....

We are really looking forward to the convenience of crusing out of NYC!!:thumbsup2

Welcome and enjoy your birthday....let me know if you are joining the Fish Extender exchange.

Just added my DF Katelyn who is actually a CM at MK to our room. Can't wait to introduce her to Disney Cruising!

I just booked this cruise, well actually it's on hold for 5 days. It would be myself, and my 2 children (5) and (13). I have a few questions before I pay for it! I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask them, but the search doesn't work well on here at all for me!

What is the earliest time we can board? If it's well before 4pm, then I think I'm sold.

Are there shows both nights? Does anyone know which shows they are?

Are the kids clubs open during the entire cruise? My son is 13, but is on the autism spectrum (high functioning), and I do NOT want him to be able to sign himself in/out of anything. Not sure how this works.

Is there a lot of opportunity for character interaction?

We have never cruised before, so I was thinking this would be a good introduction.

Thanks everyone! :)

P.S. I see that this is also an Autism on the Seas group cruise as well. Is anyone with their group?

What is the earliest time we can board? If it's well before 4pm, then I think I'm sold. Boarding normally starts around 1030 or 11 when the ship is in Port Canaveral, so I assume it will be the same in NYC you normally have plenty of time to board the ship, get lunch, settle into your room, explore the ship/go to the open houses, go to the kids clubs etc. before they do a ship drill then around 4ish they will have the sail away party and head on out.

Are there shows both nights? Does anyone know which shows they are? Normally there are shows each night, on a 4 night cruise they have on the Dream for example Villains Tonight, Dreams and the Golden Mickeys as their staple shows then on the fourth night the have a comedian or some other type of entertainment. I haven't been on a 3 night cruise in so long so I can't say if they show all 3 shows. The Magic is a 7-10 day cruise ship so they have a few of shows they could put on, more than likely it will be two shows, my guess is one of them will be the Golden Mickeys. They also have a first run movie theater where they will show a bunch of different Disney movies (remember Disney owns a lot of movie companies so there is a wide variety)

Are the kids clubs open during the entire cruise? My son is 13, but is on the autism spectrum (high functioning), and I do NOT want him to be able to sign himself in/out of anything. Not sure how this works. You need to talk to the youth councilors once you are on board, your son is the Tween club which is the age they can check themselves out or in on their own. The kids club will be open in the evening we leave port and then also on the Sat till 11pm or 12 am

Is there a lot of opportunity for character interaction? One of the greatest things about the ships versus the parks is the opportunity to meet the characters, on the day at sea you will see them walking around but there is always organized meet and greets on the navigator you will get each day and sometimes they pop into the kids club.

We have never cruised before, so I was thinking this would be a good introduction. Disney is a wonderful cruise line we really enjoy it and even as my daughter is getting older (a teen agh) she still likes to go the Disney ship over other ships. A 2 day or even the 3 day Bahamas cruise is always a good way to intro yourself to cruising.

Thanks everyone! :)

Just as another thought I don't think there is as many kids on this cruise as you normally would see on a Bahamas cruise

If you decide to book I suggest reading the DCL secrets Thread as it will give you some great ideas to enhance your first cruise with DCL.

Best of luck and hope to see you on the cruise

Thanks for your help!

I didn't book one out of the Bahamas since I live about an hour from NYC, and would rather not pay the airfare. This seems nice and easy! Honestly my son is not very social at all, so the lack of kids doesn't bother me. My daughter is the complete opposite, but I think she will still have fun. I figure the price we pay to go to Great Wolf lodge for a weekend is just about the same with food/gas/tolls!

I am sure that you will love it, I can understand not being too social my friend has a totally introverted kid. But there is really cool things to do at the kids club so I am sure he would still have a blast.

Who knows you might like it so much that you may want to try one of the longer cruises, I know they are going out of NYC this summer but they haven't announces what they will do for next year yet.

If you really like it or think that a longer cruise might fit your style than I suggest booking on board, you get a discount, you can change the cruise once you get on land and you can always get your money back if you change your mind.

Ohh I didn't know this, thanks! We had initially booked the longer cruise out of NYC back when the dates were first released. Then I got worried that I would be sea sick, etc. since we have never been, so I cancelled. Today I was checking out the Fantasy, which looks AMAZING!

Is anyone doing the fish extender thing? Or is that not done when it's a short cruise like this?

There is an FE going for this cruise. Padalyn is in charge of the list. You can PM her if you'd like to be included. :)

We are going on the Fantasy in Nov and can't wait I am so excited about it we went on the Dream last April and loved it.

I know what you mean about sea sickness and being worried about it, I have a very sensitive stomach to certain things and when I was younger I use to get airplane sick all the time. My first cruise was on the Wonder which is a smaller ship and we were on deck 2. The only time I got sick was when we would pull into the dock and be tied down because the boat moves more with the waves then in the open sea. Beyond that I have never had a problem even on the Magic when we were in rough seas (of course I had been drinking). On the Dream we were on deck 2 and never felt anything it was like being in a land side hotel room.

I do take precautions like when we take the small boat from the ship to the island as in St. Thomas or Grand Cayman I will take low dose childerns motion sickness pills. It is low dose and no drowsiness so it doesn't stop me from going but helps me from not getting sick on the small boats.

Thinking about booking this cruise for my sister and I but I'm afraid I waited to long for a reasonable price. How much did you pay for 2 adults for an inside room?

So I ruined my 50th bday surprise by checking our ressie for our NYC to Bahama cruise and I found this one...We actually leave on my bday and then next year we're going to do Europe for my bday...lucky me...

We're doing the greece itinerary.

Unless someone objects - let consider the FE list closed at 30 days. I think that should give everyone enough time to get things together?

That will make the close date May 15- is that acceptable?

Cayla

Just booked this cruise yesterday! My daughter and my best friend from high school, another cruiser, we just never cruised together before. Anyone have any idea on itinerary?

well - they are calling it a cruise to nowhere...so I guess we are going no where :rotfl::rotfl:

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this cruise. DH works for American Airlines and it appears he will be part of the downsizing (and that's with 16+ years of service). Wish we could make it work, however, the date appears to coincide with the end of work for him and we just don't want to take the chance.

Enjoy your trip!!!
