June 10, 2012 Dream 5-Night Double-Dip

Have a great trip!

Like others, I am a bit worried about the reports of poorly trained CMs (and the fact that the Fantasy is coming online only a few months before our trip, so I would guess some of the Dream CMs will go over and new CMs will be hired for the Dream.) However, like others have said, we've never cruised DCL before, so we don't have anything to compare to. I also think we're pretty "low maintenance" people, so hopefully everything will be fine.

I am also concerned that I picked a good stateroom and that the kids' school schedules will run into our cruise time -- but none of that is Disney's fault! We're in an OceanView with Verandah on Deck 6 (it's the smaller one, not the "family" cabins.) I am worried that it's not going to be enough space for the 4 of us. I don't intend to spend a lot of time in the room, but... I just can't picture how much space 246 square feet really is compared to a regular hotel room. It doesn't sound like much!

I will have to remember to wish your DD a very happy birthday while we're on board, mcraft17. I spent my 16th birthday at the Magic Kingdom... And I'll be spending my 40th on Castaway Cay!

Anybody think they might changes cruises/itineraries after the remainder of the 2012 info is released on March 10?

I thought Galveston sailings were out of the picture, but it seems the rumor is still there. We would possibly change to a Galveston cruise if that became an option, but that's it.

My family and I are booked on the June 10th cruise... 2 girls will be 9 and 11 I can't wait.... I'm new to Dis could someone explain the different abbreviation? This will be our 2nd cruise but we couldn't go to castway cay waves and winds too high

Welcome, QueenMommie.

There are a lot of abbreviations on this board, aren't there? I found a couple of sticky posts that help with a lot of them.
Here's the list of abbreviations that are used across the DISboards: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1660743
Here's a thread that lists some of the special ones that relate to cruising: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2068966

The one that's not on the list that took me a while to figure out was SRH. But I think I've figured out that's "state room host," a.k.a. your cabin steward.

I was hoping for this option too but we just found out we are moving to FL this summer. Just in time since airfare is so ridiculous! We can get the AP for the amount we would have spent on our planned Nov 2011 trip for park tix and airfare:cool1:

I would switch cruises if Galveston became an option for Fall 2012. I would probably book for Thanksgiving week. DD would be 3 by then which would guarantee that she could go in the kids clubs. That would be nice. Wishful thinking!

Christie--I'm kinda jealous that you will be so close to Disney World! Good luck with your move!

Chee Chick--I'd also be tempted to book a Thanksgiving cruise because our school district is off that entire week. I guess we'll find out in a few days which rumors are true!

So I keep seeing posts on the board about how much the price of these cruises have gone up recently...so just for fun I checked our cruise for a family of 5 and right now it's priced almost $2k higher than when I booked back in November. Unbelievable!

Since we are still over a year away, that leaves us with a lot of time to plan and dream about our cruise. Is anyone thinking of making shirts or other crafty things for the cruise?

Before our WDW vacation last year I went to the Disigns board here and got some personalized designs made for my kids and their cousins (also on our trip). I made each kiddo 2 t-shirts.

So I'm thinking about also doing shirts for the cruise, and maybe making them autograph books. Oh, and of course some magnets for the door!

I probably will be making shirts this time. I love making them and it is fun to have a shirt no one else has. I am glad that the doors are still metal so that I can make door signs too. Will have to start looking around for some cool designs. :)

Hello everyone,

We just booked. It will be me, DW, DD17, DD15. This will be our 5th cruise. We're hoping to catch Star Wars Weekend before the Cruise. It will be our 3rd SW Weekend and we enjoy seeing all the characters and meeting the stars.

We be joining in the fun with the FE, and we hope to meet some new friends on this cruise. Can't wait for the double dip. We'd rather just go to Castaway then the Bahamas.

Welcome Ramon and family!

I just saw that someone got confirmation of the schedule and dining rotations. (It was in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2676898 )

Here's what they said about 5 night cruises departing on Sunday:
For 5 Night Cruises departing on a Sunday:
Night 1- Cruise Casual
Night 2- Dress Up Night
Night 3- Pirate Night- Special Menu
Night 4- Cruise Casual
Night 5- Cruise Casual- Special Menu (this is still a ? but a good possibility)

Dining Room Rotations (Restaurants repeat 1&5 2&3)
1- AP, EG, EG, RP, AP
2- RP, AP, AP, EG, RP
3- EG, RP, RP, AP, EG

MissDaisy, I would love to make some T-shirts but I haven't a clue how to do it! DH has even requested we do something like that. Where do I even begin?

Yay for getting a neak peak at the rotation! I think this may the (one) thing that I don't obsess about, and just let the chips fall where they may. All the dining rooms look so cool it will be hard to say which ones I'd prefer to have twice.

Thanks for the welcome. We're looking forward to the double dip.

Dallas Lady,
The shirt designs are pretty easy. I've done several for our family over the years and have two friends that either embroider or paint the designs on for me. I'm starting to work on a few designs for this cruise. Here are a few that I've had done.

You can also visit the DISigners Page and they can help you. I've done several over there too.

We are booked for June 10, 2012 cruise too - it will be our first Disney cruise. We're traveling with 3 other families, but I'm the only one who's a member of the DIS.

My family is me, DH, DD6, and DD8 (she'll be just shy of 9)
The other families are:
DW, DH, DD7, DS9
DW, DH, DD6, DS9
DW, DH, DS7, DD9

We'll be doing the cruise first and then spending a week at WDW. We're really excited - my DH and I haven't been on a cruise since the Big Red Boat back in 1996!

Welcome Pumba's Dad (love your shirts!) and savannahcat! I've added you to the roll call on the first page.

Dallas_Lady--I got designs made from the disign board, then printed them out on iron-on paper I purchased from Office Depot, then just ironed them on the shirts. I found that the red shirts kinda bled onto the design, I had better luck with lighter-colored shirts.

Thanks for posting the dining info!

Hello All, especially our new families!

Got off the Wonder last Sunday, and I still have a suitcase laying on the floor! Where are the cabin stewards, when you need them? Had a fantastic week, and re-booked another cruise. We are hoping for something out of New York or an Eastern Med (Greece/Venice)!

Hope we don't lose too many of you to Galvenston...Good Night!
