June 10, 2006 Cruise Thread CONTINUED

No problem Kay! It sounds like you need to rest up for your trip.

Anyone else's kid sprain his knee the day before WDW???

I think Patrick did & he's milking this. "Daddy carry me. Liam carry me piggyback." He his able to get downstairs to play videogames though. We can't tell how bad it truly is. :confused3

We weren't there when he says he got himself twisted & fell out of the computer chair. It never swelled. We iced it, elevated it, etc. just to be safe. We'll put an ace bandage on it tomorrow to see if that will help.

He's asking for a wheelchair or stroller. I'm trying to toughen him up & help realize that there's a lot of walking even in line for a ride or to the bus stop. We'll obviously get him something if he needs it, but I'm dreading a whiny child who won't want to walk at all. He's almost 8. He's getting big for a stroller.

Argghhhh! I'll let you know how it goes when we get down there. I think he'll be motivated at Blizzard Beach Thursday.

We fly out tomorrow afternoon.

Having a great time. Wish you were here. Wed night we went to MGM aka HS & the Toy Storia Mania Ride wait was 70-90 minutes every time we looked. We'll try again tomorrow & get a fastpass. Today was Blizzard Beach & despite putting sunscreen on every hour--I burned. EMH there was great. We were able to hit all the big rides once or twice before the park got busy.

My butt is sore from Summit Plummet!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Epcot crowds this evening were surprisingly light.

SWW tomorrow!

Mary - glad you are having a great time. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Sounds like everyone is very busy here at the beginning of summer!

We came back from Orlando to VBS at church and Camp for Stacy. I picked her up from camp today and she is so tired that she is grumpy! She sound asleep now . . .hoping for a better day tomorrow.

:cool1: Hi everyone!!!

I hope the summer is off to a good start for everyone. We had a great time on our WDW trip. I think my favorite 2 parts of this trip were the days we spent with our DIS board friends- what a special way to spend days at Disney!!! Hugs friends!!!

Haven't been online because once we got home, the girls started their various camps and then our A/C went out so we have been camping out in our basement where it's cooler since last Thursday. They fixed it today, so now I feel like I get back to my routine.

Emme is out of her cast ( and then a brace for one week) now, so she is much happier and free to have a lot more fun. The girls got their ears pierced Saturday, so they are very excited about that. Not much else to report here. I will be better about checking in. Have a great rest of the week!

wheres everyone been?

we leave for alaska tomorrow !!!! well. we leave tomorrow night and arrive in seattle, as well as spend saturday day in seattle. then sunday we leave on the cruise. =]

have a great next week!

Christine. . .have a great Alaska cruise! DH and I did an Alaskan cruise for our 5th anniversary. . .it was one of my favorite trips. I hope you have plans for Denali National Park! We stayed one night there and I wish we had been there longer. .

Char

Christine: I hope you are having a great time. We'll look forward to hearing all about it.

Kay: Your trip sounds like it's off to a magical start w/ so many great activities in just the 1st day.

Marion: I know what you mean about running kids around to camps. I drive 6 boys to basketball camp 4 days a week. It's so LOUD. It's great to hear that Emme is out of her cast. She'll be so much more comfortable during the summer.

Here are the highlights of our 2nd half of the trip:

Both boys got picked for the Padawan Mind Challenge where they get to answer SW trivia on stage. They got out on the last question. "How many horns does Darth Maul have on his head 10 or 12?"

If you are ever at SWW make sure you see Hoopla at 7pm. The characters dance around & it was hysterical. :chewy: can really dance, but :darth: & his stormtroopers one the dance contest. My favorite moment was when the cantine bad played "Soldier Boy" & "Low" along w/ the appropriate movements.

EMH hours became ridiculously crowded starting Sunday. I learned to be in line for our #1 ride choice 30 minutes after EMH evening hours started when they reopened the FP machines. You had to stay really late for EMH to be worth it.

We loved Toy Story Mania. I had the highest score w/ the WORST accuracy. :lmao: Liam was so mad. :rotfl:

We enjoyed EE in the dark. That was really cool & much different at night.

Liam got picked to be the kids who competes against the bird doing math problems in the Flights of Wonder show at AK.

Yak & Yeti's was a wonderful. We had tilapia & shrimp tempura. Yummy!

Both boys got picked to do the 1st show at MK where they duel w/ a pirate. It made up for POC being under refurb.

Ok, I am enjoying watching my Cubs sweep Chicago White Sox in 1st three games of the Crosstown Classic. Go Cubs Go!

hi all

this is our 5th day. so exciting. did not have computer for 3 days.

will post my remaining trip for you when I get home. all computers here are in German and do not know how to convert on some of them. to exhausting for me................:confused3

I have kept a diary for each day

one little episode. In Rapuzneläs castle stay, the fire alarms went off and the fire dept had to come out and check the whole castle and area. we had to evacuate. when the hoses came out we got very concerned. but all was OK in the end. They think a fire alarm door was pushed open. who really knows.

will check in later.

We'll look forward to your report when you get back.

I'll be anxious to talk w/ you about some medical issues related to my Mom that I think you'll be able to help me understand. She's going to have surgery soon & the doctor is very worried the skin graph will not take completely/properly on her leg & she may have to deal w/ some sort of open wound. She may be moving in w/ us or I may be moving in for a few weeks w/ her. Long story, but it's a treatable type of cancer not the rare one she had 8 years ago.

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Hi Mary - I wil be more than happy to talk to you when I get home.

GONNA make pretyels today.

I see you are up late.

where is everyone???

I just got home from Germany tonight. P R E T T Y tired to say the least.

Hope everyone is OK

Hi Kay- Welcome Home!!

When you are up to it, I know we are all looking forward to hearing all about your trip. John & I are very curious about their program, so we can't wait to hear all of the details.

I don't know where the days go in the summer! I have not been on the computer as much as during the school year. Lots of errands this week, off to Naperville to see my sister and her family for the 4th on Thursday night.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Summer, All! :cool1:

Our cruise was wonderful and Alaska is beautiful! Lots of rough seas, though. So MANY sick people, they had sick-bag holders hanging from every elevator! It was nice to be with my California family!

We are getting ready for our big July 4th party - you're all invited!party:
We got to Kalamazoo, MI on July 5 to see TJ perform, and drop Tom off with the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps to volunteer for a week.:cheer2:

Then we get ready for WALT DISNEY WORLD!!!:yay: We go July 8-12. I am so excited! It will just be Christine, her friend & me. We only have 4 days, but it will be great! :)

Kay, I hope you are feeling good and getting over your Germany jet-lag! Looking forward to hearing more about that trip! :surfweb:

Kim, I'm so glad you got to visit w/Disboard friends on your cruise! :flower3:

Mary, I saw a post about your Mom - I hope that's all working out ok. Kay is a good resource for you!:thumbsup2
How is Scott doing? Sending extra pixiedust: your way!

Char & Marion - that is waay cool that you got to spend some vacation time together! :woohoo: No more injuries for anyone, I hope!

Have a wonderful Fourth of July! Stay safe!
:grouphug:

I'll give a little trip report here: A few items are listed "out of order" so please forgive me.

Flights were very long and tiring - happy to have landed in Frankfurt.

There are quite a number of activities that we did but have been asked not to give everything away so as to surprise those that are booked for the future - That is only fair to those individuals so that they will have goose bumps all over, as they occur and not knowign about it.

Day 1:
checked in the Crown Royal in Heidelberg.

Having a wonderful time. Met last evening for the initial reception and get together. 29 people. About 8 children under 18.

About 3 families had just come off another ABD tour and they told us all about it. Seems two are being done back to back by many.

Buffet breakfast and very yummy.

Going to Heidelberg Castle today and Wine Tasting at Zum Ritter St. George. Dinner at Zum Ritter Hotel tonight.

Jet lag was absolutely present last evening. Crashed and did not wake up until phone rang.

Our guides are Jennae and Dave.

I went to elementary school in Munich and it the language does come back to you - a little at the time.

P.S. - the key is to pack very light. I managed to do it this time

yesterday was fabulous. Heidelburg Castle was amazing.

going to Hotel Burg Trendelburg

Departing for Alsfeld. It could have been the city inhabitated by the characters made famous by Jacob and Wilhelm, the BRothers Grimm. Celebrated sons from the region know as Hesse. (taken from the booklet we were given): not my verson at all................. You can imagine Snow White with a basket of ingredients for supper she will prepare for her seven hardworking friends. Hansel and Gretel spellbound by sweets in the bakers window. And little red riding hood to retell her harrowing account with that calculating wolf.

We will see Rapunzel staring at the picturesque townsape from her prison in the nearby woods. The maiden with her very long braid will probably appear.

Will be going to the Alsfeld Museum today.

It was uncommonly hot yesterday.

Apparently a/c is not used over here and for us spoiled Americans; it can be brutal. Yesterday was one of those brutal days. The hotel was horribly hot and muggy. Thus why I am up at 4 am this morning. Supposed to be a little cooler in Alsfeld.

Everything will not be posted, as it would ruin the whole trip for those who have it booked. Surprises are the best

FAIRYTALES TO COME TRUE - you have to be around when they happen...

We left the Crown Royal for a 3 hour bus ride = excuse me ----------- COACH RIDE------------- :rotfl2:

headed for Alsfeld - this was the town that could have been inhabited by the characters made famous by Jacob and Wilhelm, the Brothers Grimm. Just imagine Hansel and Gretel and Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood.

Our hotel was Trendelburg Castle, also we called it RAPUNZEL's Castle

We stayed there for 2 nights. Met Rapunzel and her long locks.

There was bike riding and archery at Stammen. I did not ride, 'cause the ride was 5 miles out and 5 miles back. So the coach driver took myself and another lady around the City and to a local grocery store. That was very exciting.

Supper was at Sabab urg Castle, (sleeping beauty's castle), which was very, very nice.

SIDE NOTE: hard to remember what we did in order, if you don't write it down. I think the mind is going......:confused3 But so far I think I remember most of it.

Then we went to Lowen Castle in Kassel. This was the day that it rained, but everything still proceeded and we just walked in the rain. Eventually it stopped.

Then we started the Romantic Road to Lowenburg Castle.

If Walt had lived 300 years ago, Lowenburg Castle could have been his creation. Wilhelm IX, ruler of Hesse-Kassel, is today considered the "Walt of his era".

The Romantic Road is a tourist route created in the 1950s and stretches north/sosuth across the two dozen towns in outhern German, from Wurzburg to Fussen, Romantische Strafse is identified by signposts along the espressway, or autobahn.

Then we headed to Rothenburg. We departed for the Night Watchman's Walk, which was very informative.

The Bakerys were to die for in each place.

We went to a Pretzel shop and made our own Pretzel's and was taught how they are made, as we did them ourselves.

fact: The average American will eat approximately two pounds of pretzels each year. In Philadelphia the average American eats as much as 20 lbs. each year. YIKES !!!!!!!!!

lets see ------------

Next we headed to the story town of Giengen. Went to the Steif Bear Factory. Just amazing. We got to make our own bear face.

We then continued the Romantic Road to Munich, the capital of Baveria and Germany's 3rd largest city.

Onto Munich. Had quite a long City tour with an amazing guide. Best guide ever seen on any tour anywhere. He stayed with us as we traveled to Schloss Neuschwanstein. This is the Schloss that King Ludwig II started to build and only finished 1/3 of it when he died at 41 years of age. The story of his life is also amazing. IT IS TRULY A STORYBOOK CASTLE.

Then it was time to say Auf Wiedersehen.

The trip was fabulous. Hopefully I hit the high spots to give you a little information. So much more happened.

Hotels we stayed:

Crown Royal
Eizenhut
Hotel Burg Trendelburg
Hotel Kempinski
I also stayed at Hotel Kempinski Airport the last night, compliments of Delta along with food vouchers and $1,000 travel vouchers. That actually paid for my airfare on this trip.

I'll post a few pics shortly, when I get them downloaded.

here are a couple of pics. I took over a thousand of them and haven't gone thru all of them yet, plus I have 3 disc from a friend.

Since I came back home, I had all my hair cut and it is very, very short now.

Kay: Thanks for sharing all the photos & for the great trip report. I love the photos. Archery huh?? We have to look out for you know that you are trained w/ a weapon. :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Dee: Thanks for remembering Scott. Please say a prayer if you read this. He has an interview for a job next Monday. I hope are having a great time in WDW. Tell Christine we'll look forward to hearing about how her friend like her 1st time there.

My Mom is going to have surgery soon, just waiting for the doctor to schedule it. She will have a skin graph done to cover the area on her leg, where they will remove the cancer.

The problem will be keeping the swelling down, so that the skin graph will take. She has to be in bed for at least 2 weeks. She can get up only to use the bathroom which will be right next to her bed. We're setting it up in our family room, so that she can be close to all the action w/ the kids & watch tv easily. I'll let you know how it goes.

Scott & Liam are at a Boy Scout camp for a whole week. Patrick wants to be w/ me & entertained ALL the time. I'm trying to get more playdates scheduled.

glad you liked them, Mary. It was a wonderful trip. Still have not totally recovered. Could not go to a meeting at hospital yesterday 'cause I just could not make it. I need a B12 shot. LOL

HELLO!

Not a lot happening here. . .just your usual summer things. . .swimming. . .

Stacy and I went to see Kit Kitteredge (sp?)movie yesterday. . .it was so cute!

I'm glad everyone is having a good summer.
