June 1, 2008-Wonder Double-Dip

Thanks so much for the offer of help! We keep watching the Disney Cruise special on the Travel channel. We are hoping to go to Vero Beach after the cruise.

Only 8 and a half months to go!

This thread was all the way on the last page so I thought I would add a post to see if there was anyone else out there?!

It's been a while since I checked in here. But it's always good to bump teh thread every now and then.

To the family that lives in Burkina Faso-I used to be a high school geography teacher and I am fascinated by other places. Do you live there for a job or humanitarian work or just because?

We work at the US Embassy here in BF. It's a very interesting place. The people are the friendliest I've met anywhere on the planet. Here's a little taste:

bigAWL-Those pictures are really neat!

We have not decided what we are going to do in Nassau yet, but we know all of our options. Hopefully those threads will be good for some to read and will help them decide.

Since this is our first cruise, I have been trying to keep up with what to do. I have been to Nassau before, but none of my family has. Has anyone here ever done the catamaran cruise? Before I was thinking that we may want to spend the day at Atlantis, but now I am not sure.
Is it worth it to go to Palo?

Thank you again for all of your help!

Trish

Jestocost, I see from your sig that you stayed at the old Golf Resort long ago. I did also on my family's first trip to the World. My parents can't find any old photos of the resort, and I've been dying to relive the memories that I was too young to remember. Do you happen to have any?

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I haven't checked this thread in ages. I don't have any pictures of the old Golf Resort, but I'll check to see if my parents do and if I can get some. Then I'll have to figure out how to get them posted, but that's another story.

I couldn't believe it when I saw your location. Ouagadougou has been my favorite place name since the country was still Upper Volta. I got a kick out of the Amazing Race making a stop there during this run.

We did the glass-bottom boat trip on our stop in Nassau, then took a carriage ride around the town. Both were just OK, as was the entirety of Nassau, for that matter. This time we're doing B2B four- and three-day cruises and may just stay on the boat for one of the Nassau stops. We're thinking about the Atlantis or the neighboring hotel that gives you beach privileges there for the other.

Palo definitely is worth a trip. The food is great and so is the atmosphere. It wouldn't ruin the cruise to miss it or anything, but it is very nice if you can fit it in.

Hi Everyone! My husband and I just booked the Wonder for June 1st a couple of weeks ago............This is our first Disney cruise and we can't wait! We've only been on one other cruise and that was for our Honeymoon, 15 years ago come this June! So we decided to cruise again for our anniversary!

I've joined the DISboards a few years back but have not been able to spend time on these boards for the last 2 years or so. Since we have booked the cruise I have been reading and gaining valuable information from this site. I first came to these boards to get some info. about buying DVC which we did......and love!!! So, I'll be around doing my research and taking plenty of notes between now and June 1st.

I'm sure I'll be posting some questions as we get closer to the cruise. I think I finally figured out what double dipping means..........please correct me if I'm wrong.............does double dipping mean making two stops in Castaway Cay?
There's a lot of cruise lingo I need to learn.

Okay, I'm off to go read some more on cruising....................

Welcome and Happy Anniversary!

We went to the DVC presentation and few years ago and thought about it but didn't buy. At the time we felt like there were a lot of other places we wanted to go see on vacations. But it is funny that since then, we have been back to Disney every year! Maybe we should have bought? Ask away if you have any questions. We will be going for the 4th time but there are still things I don't know.

Less than 5 months to go. . .

We skipped Nassau last time and will probably do so again this time. I prefer to spend time on the ship when it is nice and uncrowded.

Double-dip does indeed mean we get two stops at Castaway Cay. Our daughter cannot wait as that was her favorite part of the trip. Of course, I think it was mine too. The sand was so incredible for building castles ;)

We are DVC members as well. In fact, we are using points to cruise in just 2 weeks. Everyone always says it is a waste of points, but we found a week that worked very well and made sense. We've been members for 6+ years.

Less than 6 months to go!

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to find this thread. My DH2B and I are booked to set sail with you all. This will be our first cruise ever as well as being part of our honeymoon!

Setting the scene:
DF (27) and I (24) will be staying at Boardwalk Villas from May 22 - May 28th
We're getting married at Epcot on May 26th... less than 5 months!!!
On the 28th we're starting our honeymoon with a package for discovery cove, seaworld, and busch gardens
Set sail on June 1st with all you wonderful people
Then staying at Animal Kingdom Villas June 6 and 7

We're using a whole bunch of DVC points but only on the resort part.
We are so excited for everything and it's right around the corner. I can't wait to read more of your advice :goodvibes

On one of our trips to WDW (before we bought into DVC) we were given an invitation to sit through the presentation. The invitation was sitting on our table in our room as we checked in. Disney offered a $100.00 credit to use anywhere on property during our stay, but at the time I couldn't talk my DH into sitting through it.............so we lost out on the $100.00. After that trip he started getting more interested so we bought a resale because we wanted the Villas at Wilderness Lodge as our home resort. We were sorry we hadn't bought sooner!

Okay, now I have a question about the cruise............have you ever participated in the fish extenders???? I just started reading about it and thought it was pretty interesting.

When I read your post about staying on the ship instead of touring I laughed because it reminded me of my honeymoon....................you see, one of the stipulations of our honeymoon cruise (my husband's request) was to not venture far away from the ship when we were in port. In other words, he had to see the ship at all times if we got off the boat!! We made 3 stops......the first one, we didn't even get off the ship; the second stop, we got off but stayed within walking distance and did a little shopping. On the third stop we got real adventurous and did the glass bottom boat tour! :boat:

We already discussed that when we stop in Nassau we can just get off and do a little shopping (within walking distance) which is fine with me. We will be hanging out on the ship as well on that day. He is real excited about making two stops at CC. I guess because he knows that the activities take place near the boat. We are not sure what activities we are going to do yet on CC. I know we will spend some time on the adult only beach. I am bringing my mask and snorkel so I'll probably do that........with or without DH.

Well, have a great time on your upcoming cruise. Are you going to write a trip report on it when you return??

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!! 15 years ago when I was planning my wedding I was more excited about the honeymoon cruise than I was about the wedding itself. When it came time to the cruise though, I lived on dramamine for the motion sickness so I slept through half of the cruise!! At least I didn't get sick! This time I'll be taking Bonine so I should be awake to enjoy everything.

We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge Villas after the cruise!

You're right, the wedding will be here before you know it!

Hi All,

My partner and I will be on the cruise. Staying on deck 8. This is our 3rd Disney Cruise. We've done the 4-night in April 06 and the 11-night Medit in May 07. (We need to figure out which 7-day cruise we're going to do in 2009 so we can get our discount when we book on-board.) The main reason we selected this cruise was the 2 stops at Castaway Cay. We won't be getting off the ship in Nassau. We'll be hanging around the Adult Pool with some cool beverages. We'll also be staying at the Poly for four nights after the cruise.

Can anyone direct me to a thread with recommendations on where to stay at Canaveral the night before?

I'm interested to see the schedule so I don't schedule Palo dinner on Pirate night :confused3

See ya all in a couple of months!

Welcome to the new posters.

I think we are leaning towards staying on the ship in Nassua this time as well. If we would leave I was thinking about maybe walking to the Nassau Pirate Museum, but I'm not sure. They have a website and it has been talked about on these boards, but I'm not sure how far of a walk it is from the ship and what part of town the walk is through. Does anyone know anything about it?

Here is another thought about staying on the ship-we were at the movies recently and they had a preview for Prince Caspian (the next book in the Chronicles of Narnia after the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.) We noticed it is a Disney-produced movie and it opens in mid-May. It may be fun to catch that on the ship that day if it is playing. We saw POTC 3 on our last cruise and Cars on the cruise before that, both shortly after they had opened and it was neat. popcorn::

We are getting a taste of Disney next weekend, but I would rather be on the cruise. . .

We just received our first Cruise Travel Kit from Disney in the mail today. It's basically a booklet with details about excursions, a gift catalog, a preparation checklist, and info about trip insurance.

Hi, Everyone! I'll also be going with everyone June 1. I can't wait! It will be me (Linda)
DD (Beth)
DGD (Kayla) 6
My SIL (Sheila)
Her DGD (Cameron) 9
Her DGS (Tyler) 8
This is my 2nd cruise. My first was on HAL with my mom to the Baltic area. This is everyone else's first time. My DGD keeps talking about when we're going on the "Mickey boat."
I see there a couple of groups from St Louis. Howdy! We live in So County.
I do have a question. I know the dates for 2009 are out already but what about if you want to book again for 2009? Are cruises booked up already? I know some itineries go faster than others. And early sitting goes pretty fast, too. Or do you just book something and rebook later for what you really need?
TIA
Linda
