I finally went to the Orthopedest today...
He has put me in a brace... but not just any brace, it goes from my upper thigh all the way down to just above my ankle! It is to remain locked straight although I can unlock it when I sit down to allow my leg to bend... but otherwise it is to remain locked straight.
I have to wear it 24/7 except for showers of course, otherwise it is to be ON my leg.
He wants me to start putting weight on my knee while walking... to act as if the brace is a cast... and just start walking with it... OK... sure, I'll do that RIGHT AWAY. Hahaha... I tried it and it is REAL scarey, but not too bad... I don't put all my weight on it, and I'm still using the crutches for support so I have that to lean on if knee hurts or I feel like it will buckle... but so far so good. It is fun ALMOST walking again, but it is VERY exhausting... but if I can start walking without the crutches, I'm willing to give it a go. Anyway, I go back to him in 4 weeks. In the meantime, he is sending me to therapy. At my next appointment he will check my range of motion and decide when he will do an orthoscopy to remove the torn miniscus. He said he would not need to repair the ACL as I am not into sports like soccer or jogging... he feels that I will be able to walk well without it being fixed... but IF I have problems walking, he reserves the right to go in to fix it. So... Good news Bad news... I think its all good.
